I lied to Minister Ba telling him that I would be making my own way out of the airport while I told my Guardians the truth that my family ca to pick up.
I bid them farewell and separated from them, using my teleportation door to move myself to a different toilet in another part of the airport.
Kris and Sergei followed and helped make sure there was no one around before I loosed my disguise and banished away my floating arms.
We left the toilet together and I gave them a wave before we went our separate ways, with myself heading towards where my family was waiting.
They were still looking in the direction of the arrival hall since they thought I had not appeared yet, aside from maybe my sister who had probably figured out who I really was and knew I was already out.
That’s why when I found them, only my parents were still trying to search for by scanning the crowd that was leaving the baggage claim area while my sister was occupied with her phone instead.
I walked up right behind them and tried my best to sound casual as I called out to them.
"Hello there~"
My mother jumped at my sudden appearance and quickly gave a slap on the arm.
"Haiyah! Where were you? How co we never see you?!"
I shrugged, "There were too many people so I went out through another exit down that way."
On the other hand, my sister stretched out her hand dramatically towards , "General Qing!"
Ah yes, I am the negotiator.
She then leapt towards to hug , "Gor Gor!! Welco back!!"
I patted her, "Yes, yes, I’m back. Did you cause problems for mom and dad while I’m away?"
She pouted at , "I never hor! You can ask them! I behaved myself, ok?"
I chuckled, "Ok, ok. Sure, sure."
My father ca up to take my luggage from with a grin as we started heading towards the carpark, "Welco back son. Good work out there."
I couldn’t help but grin back, "Thanks. I did my best."
"No doubt. I’ve seen the news. Not only a rift but even a Rift Breakout? You really worked hard huh? I hope they paid you well for it."
Well... The governnt is going to pay us by buying the Mana Crystals the Thais will be giving to us and the money we get from that will be distributed amongst everyone working for as their paynt.
We would be selling at a lower price than the market value though, partly to support our own country and partly in exchange for support in other matters that we can only get through the governnt.
Support like obtaining military hardware which would be difficult for us to get on our own for one amongst other things.
I’m not too sure about the details since Olivia is the one handling all of that including the allocation of how much money should be used to pay everyone and also how much should be reinvested back into the island.
Since we were still starting out, I told her I did not need too big of a pay for now and to use more of it to expand the island’s operations first, so I wouldn’t be paid a whole ton right now.
Still, she insisted that there was no way she was going to just let work for free so I would still be getting paid a substantial amount.
And, according to her, to compensate for the lower funds allocated to , she would also pay with her body.
I’m pretty sure that was just an excuse for her to fuck but I didn’t call her out on it.
I nodded at my father, "Don’t worry, I’m getting paid. Do you need anything? Is the money I send every month enough?"
He scowled at , "It’s more than enough. I’m more worried that you are giving too much."
Mother also nodded, "You still need to get married you know? You have enough to buy house or not? If you not enough, we can help you buy one first."
My sister imdiately protested, "Haaa? No, no, no. Why are you making Gor Gor move out? He has to stay with us!"
I waved at them, "It’s fine... I’ll be staying sowhere else after this, rember? Once they are done building the tower... They’ll probably ask all the Guardians to stay there instead."
Mother shook her head as we stepped inside the elevator that would take us down to the basent floor.
"You also won’t just work this forever. When you stop, how? Also must think of the future!"
"Well... By then, I should have enough money to get my own place anyway... This position does pay relatively good."
Father then turned to , "Oh yeah... Isn’t that tower already done?"
I shook my head, "No, they only did the exterior, not the interior."
"No, no... The other day while you are still in Thailand, they already said it’s completed and they are accepting people to work there. They’ve already started the interviews. So people are not happy because they openly announced that you guys are prioritising other worlders over locals. But the reasoning is to give a place for the refugees to contribute and work so there isn’t that much protest over it."
Eh? Wait... They’re already done?
And for them to start interviewing people ans that Olivia gave the greenlight for it... Then they really finished the entire project while we were in Thailand?
My sister tugged on my sleeve and I turned to see her showing her phone, the screen on it showing a news article reporting that the ’mysterious tower’ on our island was reported to be a hundred percent complete.
They seem to have also used as the excuse to why it was built so quickly instead of admitting that it was thanks to the Bunarf’s technology, probably as a way to hide them from the rest of the World.
If people thought that this could only be achieved because of my powers, they wouldn’t co searching for the reason how we were able to build it even if it’s placed in front of their faces.
"Hmm.... That’s surprising... I didn’t even hear about it while I was there," I comnted.
My sister huffed, "Well, I doubt anyone would have just told you about this while you are in the rift after all. It’s not like you are soone important there, right?"
I narrowed my eyes at her and she wiggled her eyebrows suggestively, clearly knowing the truth but trying to put on an act in front of our parents.
I rolled my eyes as we stepped out of the elevator, "I guess they’ll probably notify about it in the next few days... But that also ans that I should be packing up soon."
I was actually expecting my sister to start protesting again because she definitely wouldn’t like the idea of moving out but she was surprisingly silent about it.
Instead, it was my mother who spoke up, "You sure you need to go there or not? Cannot just work long distance h? It’s not like it’s an office job where you have to work in front of a desk all the ti, right?"
"Well... They say it’s better if everyone is living together and working together... They do intend to make the island self-sufficient so it’ll be sothing like a small city of its own I think? And I assu it would be easier to coordinate and manage if everyone is located in the sa place I guess."
I’m honestly just talking out of my ass here because by all ans, the Guardians don’t really have to stay on the island... They are just strongly recomnded to do so since it would be a pain for them to travel from the mainland to the island everyday after all.
Technically, it wouldn’t be a problem for since I could teleport but no one is supposed to know that.
Also... I’m not just any other Guardian... I’m the literal head of our group so it wouldn’t do for to be absent in case anything happened.
My father opened up the family car’s boot to toss my luggage inside, "Co now. Our son’s a big man now. There’s no need to keep coddling him. Besides... Aren’t there a few pretty girls there as well? You’re trying to get one of them aren’t you?"
My mother let out a chuckle as we climbed into the car, "Fufu~ Find a nice one hor, ah Qing? If you like one of them, bring her back ho to introduce to us, ok?"
Ugh... Why did she have to put it that way? There’s no way I could just tell her that I was currently banging two of them right now...
I’m pretty sure if I told them that, all of them would freak out.
Well... I know eventually I’ll have to tell them but... I guess this is just kicking the can down the road for now...
For now, just let enjoy this small mont of peace...
