The place was eerily silent, though I'm pretty sure that's because I'm currently in a space suit and there was no air in these corridors to transmit sound anyway.
I think part of the reason why there was that eerie feeling was also due to the fact that aside from there being no power and no gravity, the station itself seems to be in relatively good shape.
So why was the station abandoned like this?
The fact that there was still quite a lot of stuff floating around also ant that they most likely left in a hurry so maybe sothing serious happened inside this station?
Heck… Maybe the generator room blew up? Like maybe it went into ltdown or sothing and people have to evacuate?
h, I guess we'll see when we get there.
We floated through the eerily quiet corridors and got to another T-junction where I had to stop to look at the signs to see where we should go.
Right then, I noticed sothing shining within the darkness to my right and I swivelled around to look in that direction.
My light illuminated the corridor to reveal a small box spinning in place.
"What's wrong?" Amber asked, looking in the direction of the corridor as well.
"I thought I saw movent over there…"
Everyone suddenly went on guard and started checking all around us for any signs of an ambush.
"I don't sense anyone…" Mara reported, though her hands were still raised slightly as though she was prepared to attack.
"It might have just been a trick of the light," I admitted, turning back to look at the signs on the wall.
The sign for the generator room is pointed towards the left so I guess we wouldn't be crossing paths with whatever that might be over there… Assuming that I didn't imagine it of course.
Still, it doesn't hurt to be a little more vigilant so I told the girls to be extra on guard as we continued floating down the corridor.
As we turned to the corner, the door leading to the generator room was right in front of us. Then I realised there was one really big problem.
The door to the generator room was shut tight.
Great…
Nevertheless, I went up to the door hoping that it might open on its own but obviously we had no such luck.
There was a control panel at the side but tapping on it gave no response so it's not even a matter of being able to hack into it.
Don't they have so kind of protocol where if the power goes out, the doors would stay open instead of being shut so that people won't be stuck behind them?
Or maybe because this was a secret military base, they prioritise security over people's lives so if you end up stuck behind a door and dying, tough luck?
I can actually see that happening…
Well, seems like this is a dead end… And we might also end up being stuck behind any locked doors as well so this is not ideal… That's why we wanted to check the generator room first.
"Is there a way around the door?" I asked, hoping there might be a vent system like the other station we had to sneak through.
Mara floated up beside , "I can open it, Captain. But it might take a while since I'm not that good at precise movents so I might end up just breaking the door."
"Oh that ans you can just break it? Why noy just break it instead?"
"Hmm… I could do that if you want to, Captain. But I'm pretty sure that the whole station would feel the door being torn apart from the vibrations."
I was about to tell her to just do that when I rembered about the earlier incident at the intersection.
Do I really want to take that risk?
"But once we turn on the generators, anyone that's still in the station is going to realise we are here anyway, right?" Ries pointed out.
Oh right, I guess that's true too.
I turned back to Mara, "Just break it then."
She gave a nod before reaching out her hand towards the door and closed her eyes.
Despite there not being any sound, I could feel the rumbling from the station and the door visibly started to shake violently.
A few parts of the door snapped and floated away which prompted to get the others to move closer towards the wall just in case it exploded.
But while we were moving, I noticed another shimr of light from the corridor that we had just ca from and I imdiately turned to see what it was.
This ti, instead of nothing being there, I spotted a single Psionic Chrysalis hanging on the ceiling with its black matter latching on the ceiling surface as though it was watching us.
Since I only saw it through the screen earlier, I don't know its exact size but now I could see that it was about the size of a child.
That's bigger than I thought…
"Umm… Girls? There's a Psionic Chrysalis there…"
Everyone stopped and turned to look at where I was pointing, even Mara.
"Should we be worried?" I asked.
Amber didn't even hesitate and drew her pistol to shoot at it, her bullet piercing through the crystal part of the Chrysalis and shattering it into pieces.
The black matter around the Chrysalis dissipated and the broken crystal floated away, spinning slightly from the force of the bullet's impact.
"There, no problem now, right?"
The station started rumbling again.
I turned back to the door expecting to see Mara trying to break open the door again only to realise that she was looking back at with a worried expression on her face.
"That's not ," She confird my unasked question.
"Is there… Another horde of Psionic Chrysalis INSIDE the station?" I gasped, horror welling up inside .
"That might be heading towards our location now? I think that's quite likely, Mistress…" Lea confird.
I turned back to Mara, "The door! Get it open!"
She imdiately turned back to the door and raised her hands again, this ti not holding back her strength as she literally started ripping the door open with her telekinesis.
Damn… Judging by how thick the door was, this was supposed to be a security armoured door that was at least a few inches thick and she's currently ripping it open with just her mind.
The rest of us turned to point our weapons down the corridor, preparing to fire at any of those things should they show up.
The first one flew into the corridor and crashed into the corner, those black matter tentacles smashing into the wall and denting it.
Unfortunately for it, that ant it left its crystal unprotected so Lea fired the first shot that blew the crystal into pieces.
Not a few seconds later, two more appeared from around the corner and I blasted the leading one while Ries gunned down the next one with her assault rifle.
Just when I thought that there weren't as many as I thought, a group of those things suddenly swivelled around the corner, covering the entire corridor from view.
All of us opened fire imdiately, blasting the ones at the front apart quickly as they didn't even have ti to shield themselves.
The ones behind them however, managed to raise their black matter to protect their vulnerable crystals.
The good thing was that black matter was not bulletproof as our bullets easily shaved off parts of the black matter wherever they hit.
But still, there were just so many of them that for every one we killed, another two took its place and they were steadily gaining ground.
"Mara?!" I shouted into our comms.
"Nggghhh!! I got it! Go! Go!! I will cover you!!"
I turned around to see that she had pulled open the door of the generator room to create a small gap that could fit one person at a ti.
I pushed the others through first while Mara shoved in after her.
I was worried that she might be trying to make a sacrifice play her but she lifted her hand and pulled towards her, causing several of the floating boxes to smash into the horde of Psionic Chrysalis and stalling them.
Seeing that her plan worked, I quickly squeezed through the opening Mara created to enter the generator room while Mara followed behind .
The door started to shake and I realised that Mara was closing up the hole as she climbed in, blocking the Psionic Chrysalis from following us.
When I erged from the other side, I almost crashed into Amber since I forgot about the zero G but she caught before I did.
"Ehehehe, be careful there, Tera~ Looks like you just crashed into my life again~"
At least she's relaxed enough to still flirt with …
I was about to say sothing when a loud bang ca from the door, no doubt being the Psionic Chrysalis knocking against it.
Alright then… Looks like we're in a pretty bad situation right now, aren't we?
