The giant hand raised up into the air and slamd down towards us, only to stop halfway down as Mara raised her hands to halt it with her telekinesis.
Just as I was thinking that I was basically used to letting that thing escape from here while it left us to our fate... The puddle bubbled before it coagulated to form itself into another of those nanobot figures.
I would have spun my weapon to shoot at it but I stopped myself when I figured that this was probably that thing taking over the nanobots or sothing.
The other girls weren’t as prepared so they quickly pointed their weapons at it while Amber materialised a fireball in her hand.
"Wait, wait!! Don’t shoot!" I cried out, stopping them.
Thankfully, they managed to stop themselves before they fired their weapons.
The figure slowly rose up and... Hmm? I kind of think that it looks different from those other nanobot figures...
While the ones that we had been fighting looked like solid shadows, they at least still had a solid look on them.
But this one... This one looked more like a liquid?
Yeah, when the figure moves, there seems to be a trail following along the path of its movent like what happens when you have water sticking to sothing solid in zero G and moving the solid object around.
The figure lifted its head up to look at the orb that was still hanging in the air and protected by the shield of nanobots around it.
The featureless face then turned to look at , the disembodied voice speaking aloud and sending small shivers down my spine.
"Could you do what you did earlier and disable that thing again?"
Its voice was completely different from what I rembered, this one sounding more like a voice that was run through so synthesiser with the reverb dialled up to the max.
I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one who heard it because all the other girls also swivelled their heads to stare at the dark figure standing in front of .
The hand hovering over us dropped a few more feet before Mara regained her concentration to stop it again.
Deciding now wasn’t the ti to deal with that, I went ahead to do what it asked and tapped on my Codex once again.
I tapped on the sa option and completed the hacking miniga in just a few seconds.
Just like earlier, everything around us shut down and even the giant hand above us fell apart into pieces, turning into a mass of deactivated nanobots that was only still in the air because of Mara holding them up.
She quickly threw them off to the side while they were still deactivated and the eldritch controlled liquid thingy braced itself before jumping up into the air, flying straight towards the orb that was still above us.
I thought the figure would be piercing through the orb or sothing to destroy it but...
The figure smashed onto the surface of the orb and splattered itself on its surface, just like what happens when you shoot a paintball at a surface.
I grimaced, thinking that whatever it tried to do failed until I realised that the liquid seed to be sucked up by the orb and disappeared from its surface, right before everything ca back online again.
There was a pause before the AI spoke again, "You... Haven’t I already said that this is useless? Do you think doing the sa thing over and over again will change sothing?"
I dunno man... You seed to be panicking quite a bit earlier, weren’t you? Otherwise why would it suddenly try so hard to kill us if it was so sure that we couldn’t do anything to it?
The hologram of the mask appeared once again and it stared mockingly down at us, "Seems like whatever you want to do failed, hasn’t it? So what now?"
I was just about to ask what happened to the thing that went inside of it when the hologram flickered for a mont and the face changed into one of confusion.
"What... What is this?" The AI muttered to no one in particular. "This... This isn’t part of my... What?"
The face flickered once again and this ti, there were spots left on the hologram like a distorted image on a broken TV screen.
"Grrrkkkkk!! Override safeeeeeeetyyyyyyy adsadgfgsdg--"
The voice of the AI suddenly jumbled up into a garbled ss before an alarm sounded all around us right before it shut off almost imdiately
All of us watched as a wave of nanobots rose towards the orb and stuck itself to it, only to have large chunks of it shut off by themselves to fall away from the orb towards the floor below the platform.
The hologram of the face spazzed out again and the image beca even more distorted, barely even resembling a mask anymore.
"HIIIEEEEEKKKKKKKK" The AI scread, the sound akin to nails being dragged across a chalkboard.
All of us had to cover our ears from the pain of hearing that sound and it seed to have affected Mara and Amber worse than everyone else as our two Psionics fell to their knees and huddled themselves into a ball.
It was even worse than the first ti the ring started speaking after absorbing that Psionic shadow thing.
Then, as suddenly as the scream started, it got cut off, though I suspect it’s more because the speakers were turned off than the AI stopping its screams because the hologram was basically teleporting all around the place while still being distorted.
There was a sudden ’pop’ sound before the hologram completely disappeared and the orb itself started to shake rather noticeably.
I then realised that the nanobots that were attached to the orb seed to be liquifying as well though it was not similar to how they would turn into those black puddles after we disabled those shadow figures. This looked more like they were actually being lted down to be turned into liquid instead and the orb was just absorbing them up like a sponge.
The shaking turned even more violent and I was surprised that it was still able to stay up in the air before black tendrils suddenly exploded out from the orb, smashing itself into the walls around the room.
One of them even flew right above us to smash through where the doorway we used to enter this room had been, revealing the corridor beyond it.
Takehashi imdiately leapt to her feet, "Co on!! Let’s get out of here already!"
My girls also agreed with her and took a few steps in that direction before they turned back to .
Honestly, I had also thought about running as well but for so reason, I had this inexplicable feeling that if I were to run here, I would regret it.
It’s like there was soone whispering to that I needed to stay where I was and not move at--
One of the black tendrils shot out from the orb wrapped around my leg and I suddenly found myself lifted up into the air before being pulled towards the orb.
Amber imdiately stretched out her hand towards and I froze in midair, the black tendril being held in place by Amber’s telekinesis.
"Hold on, Tera!! I’ll get you!!" She cried out, flying towards with her hand outstretched.
As she was about to reach , another tendril shot out and slid in between us, blocking Amber from reaching .
I thought it would attack Amber or sothing but it just hovered there with the tip pointing towards Amber, as though preparing to strike at her.
However, it did not do that and instead, it slowly moved forward to gently push at Amber, as though telling her to move back.
"Please... Help..." A voice suddenly called out to .
Even though it was a voice that I did not recognise, I sohow knew instinctively that it was that Psionic shadow eldritch thing that was calling out to .
I looked at Amber and I think she heard it too because she was also giving the sa look.
I guess this tendril that was grabbing was trying to pull in to help that thing? But what does it even want to do?
"Tera?" Amber called out, her hand still reaching towards which the tendril did not attempt to stop.
I guess this was a way of saying that I could still leave if I wanted to but after coming this far, did I really have a choice?
I shook my head at Amber and she nodded in understanding.
My fiery lover lowered her hand and I could feel her telekinetic grip on loosen before the tendril pulled towards the orb.
I was expecting to hit sothing solid but the surface of the orb seed to lt away before I got dragged into a dark space, the hole closing up the mont I went through.
What was I getting myself involved with?
