Despite all of us getting our licenses, we all decided to attend the remaining lessons to make the most out of it.
It still served as good practice for us and besides... We paid for all this.
We had another practical lesson today and this ti there was a task attached to the lesson.
The instructor had released drones into the asteroid field and the students were supposed to hunt them down.
Once again, the people in the bottom five position would be unable to get the high grade license and if the previous five who had been disqualified managed to climb back out of the bottom five position, they would be granted the high grade license.
Obviously, my group was not counted in that ranking even if we did badly so it wasn’t really necessary for us to compete.
Still, I thought it was interesting so we chose to participate as well.
Of course, we won’t sabotage the other students that were already competing with each other to stay out of the bottom five rankings so if we saw a drone already being chased by soone else, we won’t compete with them for it.
In fact, we’ll even take the area furthest away from them to hunt for the drones.
The asteroid field was lit up with flashes of autocannon fire and the thrusters of Exo-Knights flying around as we hunted down the drones.
The drones themselves were pretty small and they were also quite agile so you really need to concentrate on your aim to be able to hit them.
Well... Like I said, we weren’t required to actually try so we were just taking this easy.
With the manual controls of the Exo-Knight, I have to say that I wasn’t really performing at my best anyway so it was also a little difficult for to aim properly.
That’s not to say that it’s impossible for of course, but it’s just a little annoying to do so since I knew I could be better if I had my preferred controls.
I flew in between a pair of asteroids, my gaze set on the screen as I chased after a drone that was zigzagging through the space between the rocks.
I kept my finger ready on the trigger as I waited for the opportunity to shoot at the drone.
The mont it flew out into an open space, I raised my autocannon, taking aim to pull the trigger.
But before I could, another Exo-Knight suddenly appeared out of nowhere and fired at the drone, destroying it before I could.
Hey!! That was mine!!
"Who was that?!" I cried out inadvertently.
Renata’s voice ca from the android behind , "Seems like that was Big Sister Yumiko, Daddy."
That naughty bitch...
I bet she did that on purpose so that I would punish her later...
Fine, I’ll give her a rough spanking once we get back to the ship.
I flew after another drone instead, taking a few shots at it but missing it completely as it dodged and weaved between the asteroids.
Tsk... Feels like this one’s trying to be especially difficult huh....
I flew over one of the asteroids in the way and did a flip above it before firing a shot at the drone.
The kinetic round pierced through the drone from above, completely blowing it up and turning it into scrap.
I flipped back around right as another drone flew past , which ant I got my next target.
I chased after that drone, firing a few shots at it hoping that I would get a lucky hit
Unfortunately, that drone seed to be particularly determined to avoid as it dodged my shots and weaved in between the asteroids in an attempt to lose .
Taking that as a personal challenge, I pursued after it, equally determined to destroy it.
It spun, flipped and weaved through the asteroid field and despite its efforts to lose , I was still hot on its heels.
I’m pretty sure this drone in particular was programd to be harder than all the other drones because it seed like it was even predicting my moves and moved behind cover just when I was about to shoot at it.
Still, I was able to keep track of it and continued my pursuit, not letting it escape from .
If I had to worry about being one of the bottom five, I would not be doing this of course, since it would be more practical for to just let this one go and just hunt another drone instead.
But because I don’t need to worry about that, I was being a little stubborn about this.
Stupid drone!! I’m gonna show you that I can kill you if I really wanted to!!
I checked the path ahead, seeing that there was a cluster of three asteroids that we would have to pass through in just a few seconds.
Already knowing the drone, it would most likely use that as a way to defend itself against so I ca up with a quick plan.
As the drone shot through the space between the first and second asteroid, I had started firing at the second asteroid.
The rounds exploded against the rock, turning the force into montum as the asteroid was moved back from the kinetic rounds hitting it.
The drone that had tried to move behind it in order to zig zag through the spaces was forced to make an ergency turn as the rock it had been planning to hide behind suddenly moved.
I activated my boosters, giving my Exo-Knight a burst of speed as I flew upwards and intercepted the drone right as it flew in front of to avoid the asteroid.
Instead of shooting at it, I switched to the halberd and slashed my weapon down on it, cleaving the drone into two.
I watched in satisfaction as the two halves of the drone floated away from , both halves flying in different directions from each other.
Ha ha!! Take that you little bich!! Let’s see you run now!!
While I was still celebrating my triumph, I noticed sothing odd in the distance.
Is that... an Exo-Knight that’s just clinging to the side of an asteroid?
What made it odd wasn’t even the fact that it was clinging to the asteroid like that... It was the fact that this Exo-Knight was a different model as compared to all the others that we were piloting.
I’m pretty sure that everyone is piloting the sa model so for there to be a different model here... Is that the Instructor? What is he doing over there?
Feeling a little curious, I decided to head over there to see for myself what he was doing, especially since I wasn’t in a rush to get more points from defeating the drones anyway.
As I headed towards the Exo-Knight, Renata suddenly spoke up, "Umm... Daddy? That Exo-Knight there is not registered with the station’s database..."
I frowned at that, "What? Not registered with the station’s database? What does that an?"
"It ans that the Exo-Knight most likely isn’t from the station, Daddy. They are neither the instructor nor a student."
Wait, really? Then who the heck is this guy? A spy? Soone who got lost?
"Can you send a notification out to the others to let them know about this?" I asked.
"I’ll get right on it, Daddy! Seems like there’s already a protocol in place inside this android’s mory banks on what they should do when they co across sothing like this~"
"And what is the protocol?"
"I’m sending a notification to all the other androids in the area that are also inside the other Exo-Knights. We should just assu that the unknown Exo-Knight is hostile and try to stay away from it."
"Are you supposed to stop if I try to make contact with it?"
"No. I am supposed to keep an eye on the other Exo-Knight and if they show any sign of aggression, I would send out an ergency signal and bring this unit back to the station. The ergency signal would also force all the other Exo-Knights to start flying back to the station as well to evacuate from the area."
I raised an eyebrow, "Huh... This sounds like the instructor is expecting sothing like this to happen or sothing..."
"I’m not too sure about that. There’s a lot of protocols for other events too, like one that specifically states what the androids should do in the event of a Leviathan sighting. I think he’s just paranoid and prepared all kinds of protocols for any event that he can think of."
Well... In that case, since I’m already here... I might as well just check out whether this unknown Exo-Knight is a friendly or not.
Who knows? Maybe this guy is just lost or maybe having so kind of technical trouble with his machine and needs so help~
Yeah right... What are the chances that’s the case?
