I’m pretty sure I was just imagining it since Gary did not say anything and just called the next group to start their run.
I flew over to where my girls were and I watched the next batch of test pilots accelerating into their route faster than the other two groups.
I guess the fact that I went all out in the first run flared their competitive spirit and they’re now trying to one up as well.
Well... It wasn’t like I was trying to be the best here to begin with... I just thought I would try my best and that was it.
The next group of pilots were obviously faster but... For so reason, it still felt like they were holding back.
Then Gary called out the next group which included both Amber and Ries.
Amber imdiately sped off and I watched her spin through the void and manoeuvre through her checkpoints easily before returning back to her starting point.
Peeking at the screen with all the other test pilots, I could see a few of them looking quite dissatisfied for so reason.
Heck, they also gave Ries the sa look when she finished her route even though she flew the slowest amongst the three of us so far. Though I guess she did fly a little faster than the second group.
Umm... Is it because we’re ruining their rhythm or sothing? Like they are used to just doing it slowly on the first pass but we, being the newbies who don’t know anything, are forcing them to abandon that?
Well... I guess the only thing I can say is... My bad guys...
Right then, a blob ford on my lap before it expanded to transform into Renata, my eldritch maid wearing an exact copy of my pilot suit except hers had little frills around different parts of her body as well as a little frilled skirt to make it look like a maid uniform.
"Mnnnghhh... I’m bored, Daddy..." She yawned.
I panicked and looked at the screen where the call was still connected, expecting them to react to the sudden appearance of Renata.
But yet, no one did and Gary just went ahead to call the next batch to start.
I quickly realised Renata must have done sothing to the cara so they couldn’t see her and relaxed in my chair to hug her close to .
"Well... We’re at work now so obviously we’re not going to be having fun..."
Renata giggled, "Ohhh~ I think I know so things we can do for fun in here, Daddy~"
I was just about to tell her off for that when I received a notification from the console.
Tapping on it, I realised that it was another route and my screens also got updated with the checkpoint rings appearing in space.
I was just thinking that this was the second route I would need to take after everyone had their turn when Gary suddenly called out.
"Tera!! You’re up again! Get a move on once you’re ready!"
Eh? again? Err... Ok then?
I took a mont to study the map and planned the route quickly, ignoring Renata who had decided to stay on my lap to cuddle up against my chest.
Hmm... Looking at the route this ti... It seems like it’s more difficult than before?
Once I was sure of my route, I pushed on the thrusters and sped off towards my first checkpoint ring.
I dashed through the first ring and shifted the direction of the thrusters to speed towards the second ring, sothing I realised I could do during my first run.
The thrusters reattached themselves from their coupling and allowed to execute another high speed turn right as I reached the second ring, pushing towards the third ring.
The next few rings were in a zig zag pattern which I utilise the thruster decoupling to the fullest, allowing to move through the route with barely any need to slow down.
I then did another loop and flew back towards the starting point again where the last ring was located, flying through it to complete the course before doing another turn to kill off my montum.
Once again, I was treated to the sight of the test pilots all looking at with weird expressions on their faces, which I don’t know what the reason was.
In contrast, Renata was cheering for on my lap, "Wheee!! That was so cool, Daddy! You’re so aweso!! Muaaah!"
She kissed cutely on the cheek before nuzzling my face with hers.
I’m glad she’s enjoying herself at least...
Yumiko got called out to the next group and she did as well as you might expect from a forr elite soldier.
She was way better than I was and managed to complete her route in a significantly shorter ti than I did.
And just like what happened with , the other test pilots also shot her angry glares.
In fact... I would even say that the glares she was getting was more intense than mine...
Hmm... Now I’m wondering if it wasn’t just jealousy that I was seeing?
As though reading my mind, Renata let out a giggle, "Ehehehe~ Look at them, Daddy~ They’re so mad that we are better than they are!"
"Is that why they are glaring at us like that?"
"Ehehehe~ Why else, Daddy? They thought they were the elite, the best, the greatest there was~ But they don’t even know how big the universe is and have just been content staying in this tiny part of the galaxy thinking they are already the best~"
Huh... Now I’m not too sure that’s the case since Renata might just be saying that to mock them...
Mara and Lea also got their turn to shine but it was clear that Yumiko and myself stood out at the very front since we were still the fastest to clear our respective courses.
Another notification ca and this ti the route started further out, making realise that they had created a course amongst the asteroid field instead of open space.
Looks like they want to test this unit’s manoeuvrability in a space filled with actual obstacles I guess?
I looked at the call screen to see Gary narrowing his eyes at his own screen, probably also receiving so kind of map that showed where the next course would be.
He then looked up at his cara again before nodding, "Tera... Yumiko... You’ve been selected for another run. You can start when you’re ready."
Sohow his sudden change in attitude felt really off putting.
I turned my head to look in the direction of Yumiko’s Exo-Knight and I could just imagine her looking at her map just like I did to plot her own course before she sped towards the asteroid field.
I did the sa as well, only needing a mont before I found the optimal path as I flew after her, entering the asteroid field to head towards the first checkpoint.
"Are there any weapons on this Exo-Knight?" I wondered aloud.
Renata took a mont to hum expectantly, "Hmm... Should I check, Daddy?"
"If that involves you integrating yourself into the machine, I’d rather not... Let just... Oh, there we go..."
I found the equipnt window to see that this Exo-Knight was completely unard.
That’s unfortunate... Since I was thinking that I could at least use sothing to clear out the asteroid should I et one that blocked my path.
Guess I’ll just have to rely on my evasion then.
I sucked in a breath and focused my gaze on the asteroid field in front of , pushing on the thrusters to speed through the first checkpoint.
I ducked, spun and weaved through the asteroid field, dodging the floating pieces of rocks to fly though the second checkpoint.
My hands shifted the controls and the Exo-Knight flipped back around, kicking off one of the asteroids to use as a springboard to launch towards the third checkpoint.
Passing through the third checkpoint, I had to boost in between two asteroids right before they crashed into each other, missing getting crushed by re inches before I reached the next checkpoint.
I then flew along the surface of an asteroid to get to the next one before flipping around to dive through a hole in that very asteroid as a shortcut to get to the next ring.
I then did a loop right as I passed through it to boost myself towards the final checkpoint at the edge of the asteroid field, dodging an asteroid that sped past at the last mont by doing a corkscrew before I flew through the final ring.
Once again, I did another spin to kill my montum the mont I passed through and I was greeted with the gazes of disbelief coming from the test pilots.
Seriously... I really don’t think what I’m doing is that special so why are they even looking at like that?!
Are you all really just that bad?!
