"Who would’ve thought, aside from soccer, you’re also skilled at knife throwing," Sha Chu said with a smile.
"In tis like these, one must learn so self-defense techniques," Li Xiu replied with a smile.
"That’s great. I know of a Trial Gate with a contract type that involves knife throwing. I can take you there to try your luck soday," Sha Chu paused and then continued, "Once we’re back, we should undergo so training. With your knife throwing skills and my understanding of the S-level Frenzy Trial, passing the S-level trial together is easy, but..."
"But what?" Li Xiu asked.
"But when the ti cos, it might not just be the two of us taking the S-level trial, which could be a bit troubleso," Sha Chu didn’t continue but turned and walked towards the passage.
Li Xiu followed Sha Chu back into the passage, feeling a bit uneasy and vigilant, afraid of encountering those things again.
Just what he feared happened. He hadn’t crawled very far when Li Xiu felt sothing crawl into his pant leg. This ti, there were two of them, and he felt the caterpillar-like squirming on both his calves.
"What are these things? Why doesn’t Sha Chu encounter them? Could it be that they know she’s strong and dare not provoke her?" Li Xiu resisted the urge to imdiately shake them off, despite his disgust and goosebumps.
"I want to see exactly what these things are." He turned over to lie on his back in the passage, bending his legs and slowly reaching toward his calf.
As his fingers moved down along his pants, he imdiately felt what seed like a large lump at the spot where the caterpillars were squirming, as big as an egg.
Unable to resist, Li Xiu pinched it. Even through the pants, he could feel its squishy softness, like a blob of sticky gel without bones.
The sensation disgusted Li Xiu, goosebumps rose all over his skin.
Strangely, as he pinched, the thing emitted a faint squeaking sound, causing the creature in his other leg to retreat quickly.
Li Xiu hurriedly used his other hand to grab the other creature, catching it accurately, feeling its softness akin to loose mud.
The two things slipped through his fingers, unable to be held, and crawled out along his pant leg.
Though their speed wasn’t fast, Li Xiu couldn’t manage to catch both at once, so he decided to abandon one and clamped his hands on the soft thing in his right leg.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t hold it, and the thing soon crawled out of his pant leg.
He tried to lift his leg, ignoring the dirt pushed down by his knee, desperately covering the pant leg opening with his hands.
His hands encased the soft blob but couldn’t hold it as it slipped through his fingers.
Li Xiu simply cupped it with both hands, quickly bringing it to his eyes.
Sha Chu had crawled quite far ahead, the glow on her diminishing in brightness by the ti it reached Li Xiu.
Yet Li Xiu could clearly see what was in front of him, and much of the initial fear dissipated.
The thing in his hands seed like transparent silicone, softer than silicone, almost liquid-like, flowing out through his fingers.
Li Xiu quickly grabbed the object with one hand and took out a plastic bag with the other, shoving it in and sealing the bag tightly. It seed weak as it failed to tear the bag no matter how much it struggled.
"What are you doing back there?" Sha Chu asked, pausing, not hearing Li Xiu coming up.
"A bit tired, I took a quick break, I’ll be right there," Li Xiu said, flipping over and continuing to crawl forward, clutching the bag.
Sha Chu snorted discontentedly, slowing her pace as she continued onward.
After capturing the little creature, Li Xiu crawled for a long ti without feeling anything else climbing onto him.
"What on earth is this thing?" Li Xiu wondered, observing the constantly morphing bag, puzzled.
It didn’t seem like a Demon Spirit to him, at least he had never seen such a weak Demon Spirit. Yet, as an Earth creature, he had never heard of such a thing either.
Even stranger, why did the creatures only crawl onto him, avoiding Sha Chu altogether?
Li Xiu was perplexed as Sha Chu had already reached the shaft area. Her arms and legs supported her against the walls like a beautiful serpent, slithering upward, soon climbing out before lowering a rope to pull Li Xiu up.
Li Xiu tucked the sealed bag into his pocket, out of Sha Chu’s sight.
"The belt you have on is a contract, right?" Sha Chu said, examining Li Xiu’s waist.
Li Xiu usually covered the Fire Lotus Sword with his clothes, but once inside the Trial Ground, it couldn’t be hidden. Sha Chu, recognizing it, was unsurprising.
"Yes," Li Xiu replied, acknowledging it without concealing.
"That’s peculiar. You already have a contract, so you should be a real Trial Taker. Yet, you seem quite ignorant of Trial Taker matters. How did soone with your physical condition manage to acquire a contract?" Sha Chu inquired suspiciously.
Li Xiu contemplated for a mont on how to respond when he suddenly sensed sothing amiss. The soil beneath seed to turn into sludge, causing him to sink.
Sha Chu experienced the sa, her body also descending.
With a slight change of expression, Sha Chu promptly summoned the Double-headed Demon Spirit, intending to pull herself out.
However, it too stuck fast, its four legs unable to break free, sinking more swiftly than Li Xiou and Sha Chu.
Though frantically flapping its wings to fly, its struggle instead hastened its descent.
In just monts, Li Xiou was halfway subrged in the earth, reaching his chest.
Sha Chu faced similar circumstances, shimring light enveloping her, skill brands materializing on her fingers as she unsheathed her Tang Blade, slashing Demonic Light at the adhesive soil, carving it open slightly.
Soon, more adhesive-like earth covered them, enveloping Sha Chu’s body, even clinging to her arms and Tang Blade, pulling her inexorably downward.
