Jiayu reached out to turn on the switch, and the light in the living room finally ca on. After changing her shoes, she walked to the window and saw Mu Ke’s car slowly start and drive away downstairs.
Her ho was clearly ticulously cleaned, and the leftover porridge from before her departure had also been cleared away.
Opening the refrigerator, Jiayu was slightly taken aback. It was no longer as empty as before, now filled with a variety of things, like milk, coffee, and sandwiches.
Jiayu took out a bottle of milk, and just as she was about to open the cap, she saw written on the bottle: Drink it warm.
The writing was thin and a bit careless, but it had a certain elegance.
This was Mu Ke’s handwriting.
Jiayu had always been in the habit of drinking cold milk and was too lazy to heat it up, only seriously warming it when serving milk to Xin Ke.
Now, looking at that line of words, Jiayu irresistibly walked into the kitchen, poured the milk into a bowl, and put it in the microwave.
The house was very quiet, with only the sound of the microwave turning. She looked out through the kitchen window; the sky was very dark, with no stars or moon, feeling empty.
Xue Lu once asked her, didn’t she wish that when she ca ho, there would be a light left on for her? Did she wish to co ho with only the refrigerator’s light on?
When Jiayu heard this, she didn’t think much about it because she was used to it. What’s so lonely about it?
But now, inexplicably, it really felt empty here.
Her apartnt wasn’t large, a one-bedroom place without even a study. When she bought it, firstly it was because of the good location, and secondly, it was well-decorated, so she didn’t have to fuss with it herself.
More importantly, it wasn’t big, suitable for one person. If the place were bigger, it would indeed feel lonely.
All along, Jiayu felt this was pretty good, but now, inexplicably, she felt a bit sentintal.
The microwave’s light "ding" sound pulled Jiayu’s wandering thoughts back. She took out the milk and drank it slowly.
Warm milk, once in the stomach, indeed felt much more comfortable.
Jiayu washed the bowl, turned to take a shower. The long flight had made her shoulders heavy and quite tired. After showering, she was too lazy to dry her hair, collapsed onto the bed, and fell asleep shortly after.
That night, Jiayu had many dreams.
In the dreams, she saw her younger self watching Xin Ke on the basketball court, smiling absent-mindedly, and the ti she won first prize in a competition, wanting to share the joy with Xin Ke, only to see him walking with another girl...
Lastly, Jiayu dread of Mu Ke.
Mu Ke in the dream was still tall and slender, wearing a white coat, standing not far from her. There was light coming from behind Mu Ke, enveloping him in a halo.
The man reached out to her, and Jiayu reached out her own hand but couldn’t touch him. Then Mu Ke’s figure gradually moved farther away, becoming more transparent and thinner...
Suddenly opening her eyes, Jiayu frowned. Outside, it was pouring rain, with barely any sunlight.
Supporting herself up, Jiayu rubbed her temples. The feeling of fatigue in her body had improved a lot, but her head hurt, hair tangled and ssy, all consequences of sleeping with her hair wet.
Jiayu finished washing up and ca out, swallowed a headache pill, feeling much better.
The pouring rain outside continued. Jiayu took out her phone, ordered so takeout, and then turned on the computer to start working on her tasks.
