When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds Chapter 124: Yi Ru 8
"Yiyi is just too modest, too low-key!"
"It’s not a big deal. I think people should be a little modest. If you’re too arrogant, you’re bound to get put in your place soday." Tan You glanced at the screen. "I prefer to keep a low profile and not be so ostentatious."
With that, she leaned closer to the screen. "That’s all for today’s stream. See you all tomorrow night at eight."
After saying her goodbyes, Tan You promptly ended the stream. Thankfully, she didn’t show her face. She’d never livestread back in her life as Chi Mo, and broadcasting her current life still felt strange to Tan You. The fact that she rarely had to be on cara made it just about tolerable.
’Speaking of which, if I upload a dance video, what kind of accessories should I wear?’ Tan You pondered this over and over before she unknowingly drifted off to sleep.
Tan You was an unknown, after all. Even with the buzz from the dating show and the subsequent Moyan promotional video, her account started bleeding followers after less than two weeks of hype.
Tan You wasn’t disappointed, though. The ones who stayed were her core fanbase, most of whom were probably interested in Hanfu. Even so, her follower count was still leagues ahead of everyone else in the Hanfu community.
"I swear, my poor wallet takes a hit every ti I visit Moyan," a young woman lanted as she paid. She couldn’t bear to part with a single item she’d picked out.
As Tan You packaged the jewelry she’d chosen, she said, "You have excellent taste. All of these pieces were made by veteran artisans I commissioned. They’re completely handmade, possessing both artistic and aesthetic value."
"I know, right? Everyone knows Moyan is synonymous with master craftsmanship now." The young woman sighed. "Ever since you started stocking all this jewelry, everyone knows your quality is the best, guaranteed."
Tan You smiled. "Honestly, I don’t make much of a profit on the finished jewelry. I’m mostly selling it on consignnt for the artisans. What really sells in volu are the DIY kits."
She gestured toward a large rack beside them, which was filled with various DIY kits.
"The DIY kits are great, too. I’ll take two different ones." The young woman clutched her wallet, the pain of spending even more money palpable. ’But what can I do? I want them so much!’ Nowadays, anyone who was into Hanfu usually knew how to do so simple crafts.
Tan You laughed and picked out two at random. "You’re a loyal custor. These two are on the house."
The young woman’s face imdiately broke into a wide smile. "Aweso! Yiyi, we should get together when you have ti! You’ve hardly co to any of our etups this past year. If Moyan wasn’t constantly dropping new products, letting catch you here at the shop, I’d have thought you’d disappeared off the face of the earth."
"I’m just so busy these days that I don’t have the free ti I used to," Tan You said. "I really can’t get away. You all should just co by the shop to hang out more often."
"That’s a good point. By the way, October’s just around the corner, which ans it’s ti for our annual get-together. Why not have it here this year? Your shop is gorgeous and super photogenic. Plus, it’s been so long since we all got together; it’d be the perfect place for a big reunion."
Tan You was happy to agree. "Of course, you’re welco to. Just let know the headcount once it’s set, and I’ll arrange a hotel for everyone. I’ll make sure you get a great deal."
"Deal!" the young woman said, her face alight with excitent. "I’ll post in the group chat later. Everyone’s been dying to have a get-together with you."
Tan You smiled as she watched the custor walk off, laden with bags, before sitting back down behind the counter. This was normally the store manager’s job, but the manager had unfortunately sprained her ankle that morning, so Tan You had to cover for her.
Luckily, there were a few other clerks in the store, so Tan You wasn’t particularly busy. It had been nearly a year and a half since she’d co to this world. In a year and a half, it seed nothing had changed, and yet everything had.
What hadn’t changed was that the dating show was still running. What had changed was that Zhao Zhao was no longer a part of it, citing personal reasons. Tan You hadn’t bothered to check if he’d found romance elsewhere; she had already severed all ties between him and Yi Ru.
In a little over a year, the Hanfu brand she founded, Moyan, had beco the undisputed leader in the Hanfu community. Moreover, Moyan’s fa wasn’t confined to the community; it had even broken out of its niche and into the mainstream.
The "neo-Chinese" designs Moyan had released a year ago were t with critical acclaim upon their debut. They perfectly balanced beauty and utility, to the point where they could be worn to the office without looking out of place.
Furthermore, Tan You had brought in nurous master artisans. From the velvet flower accessories and embroidery to the intricate bamboo-woven items, their involvent instantly elevated Moyan’s cachet.
Now, Moyan had brick-and-mortar stores and a booming online presence. It was no exaggeration to say the business was raking in money hand over fist. Each ti she bought a new property or storefront, a wave of satisfaction washed over Tan You.
’Once I’m an adult, I have to work hard and earn enough to buy a house. Then I can live all by myself. How quiet and free would that be?’ The thought made Tan You’s eyes crinkle at the corners, her good mood obvious.
She opened Yi Ru’s personal social dia account, which had essentially beco Moyan’s official page. Tan You would post previews before new collections launched and would occasionally share monts from her ti with the master artisans.
There were posts of her learning the craft from the masters, and others that featured the masters on their own. The account was updated almost daily.
Tan You never skimped on promoting such intangible cultural heritage projects. She believed this knowledge was incredibly precious, and it would be a true tragedy if it were to be lost. Therefore, whenever she was in a position to help, she would do her part to support them.
All things considered, her life was going exceptionally well. She had money, leisure ti, and looks—her life was comfortable and carefree. Of course, it would be even more perfect if the Yi family’s parents would stop nagging her about marriage.
’So, when is Yi Ru going to wake up, anyway? Once she’s awake, she can deal with her own parents and her bestie. I’ll just let her handle all that trouble. But as for the Moyan brand... can Yi Ru manage it properly?’
’She probably can, right? Yi Ru does have a decent sense of style.’
Tan You had already experienced the original host of a body waking up twice before. It always seed to happen after a major, positive shift in the host’s life. For instance, Han Tingting had awakened after Tan You got into college, and Chi Mo had returned after Tan You perford at the Spring Festival Gala. Both were huge, life-changing milestones.
So, now that she had severed the connection between Yi Ru and Zhao Zhao, and with Yi Ru’s career flourishing, Tan You figured the change would happen any day now.
Sure enough, one week later, Yi Ru awoke. Having been a woman of wealth and leisure for years, her ntal fortitude was formidable. In less than half an hour, she had processed all of Tan You’s experiences from the past year-plus.
She stared at Tan You for a long mont before uttering a single word: "Impressive."
Tan You just smiled. "It was nothing, really."
In that single glance, Tan You knew that she and Yi Ru would not get along. Tan You knew her own preferences—she liked people who were honest and down-to-earth. But it was obvious that Yi Ru was not like that at all.
