Tan You paid no mind to what her grandma thought, simply sitting at the sewing machine all afternoon. After making two new outfits for herself, she called it a day. Doing such fine, detailed work for so long was tiring on the eyes.

Over the next two days, Tan You focused on tailoring clothes, not just for herself, but for Tan Deming as well. Her grandpa, now in a simple short-sleeved shirt and shorts, looked especially refreshed.

Her grandma watched coolly from the sidelines. It was only when Tan You told Tan Deming it was ti to return the sewing machine that Wang Hunv appeared before her, arms full of fabric. She also brought a lot of clothes, all from the factory her sister-in-law used to run.

"Use these. Make yourself a few nice outfits. You’ll be going back to school soon, and you can’t show up in rags."

Tan You glanced at the pile of fabric, a little surprised. ’I can’t believe a penny-pincher like Grandma is actually willing to be generous for once. With her personality, she hoards everything. And yet she’s offering this up on her own initiative?’

But since her grandma had brought them out, there was no way Tan You was going to pass up the opportunity. She rummaged through the pile of fabric, quickly picking out a few floral prints in simple, elegant colors.

Her gaze swept over Wang Hunv. In that instant, Tan You had her grandmother’s asurents down pat—a skill she’d honed in her life as Han Tingting.

"I’ll make you two outfits first."

It was a classic quid pro quo; since she was taking her grandma’s fabric, it was only right to make a couple of outfits for her. Wang Hunv smiled, clearly pleased with Tan You’s perceptiveness.

To be honest, now that she had the fabric, Tan You really didn’t want to keep wearing old clothes. ’Who doesn’t like wearing new things?’

With these thoughts, Tan You pedaled the sewing machine so fast it felt like it might shoot sparks. Even if Cheng Wenhui never thought to buy her new clothes, she had her own ways. Life would always find a way forward.

After everyone in the family was wearing new clothes, Tan You began her assault on the wardrobe of garnts her grandma had hoarded.

Her grandma was a strange one. She wanted everything she saw, hoarding even clothes and fabrics that didn’t suit her. This was especially true since her sister-in-law used to run a clothing factory in Z Province, aning there was an almost endless supply of clothes and fabric.

Since these clothes had never been worn, they had just been stored away after being brought back and thus still looked brand new. However, in Tan You’s eyes, the styles were terribly dated. To be wearable in public, they would need major alterations.

Recently, Tan You had been tackling a purple woolen suit. She found the shade of purple very beautiful—not a gaudy, overpowering purple, but a very elegant color. It would look nice made into an overcoat for Cheng Wenhui.

"I’m really going to make clothes for my mom with this. You’re not heartbroken about it, are you, Grandma?" Tan You felt she had to double-check before she started cutting the suit apart. After all, her mom, Cheng Wenhui, and her grandma had a really bad relationship, all because her mom had given birth to two daughters.

"Go ahead, go ahead. Just make it look nice." Wang Hunv rolled her eyes. Although she didn’t get along with her daughter-in-law, her relationship with Tan You was decent now. She couldn’t really bring herself to object to Tan You making clothes for her own mother.

Tan You pressed her lips into a smile. ’I used to think Grandma was harsh and unreasonable, but it seems as long as you know her weak spot, she’s manageable.’

She said no more and quickly began taking the entire suit apart at the seams.

A woolen overcoat was indeed ti-consuming to make, and it wasn’t like Tan You spent all day, every day, just sewing. It was only a hobby for her; she would never make it her profession. She was still thinking about visiting those prestigious universities one day.

Perhaps because Tan You kept her studying and sewing so separate, Tan Deming never ntioned any of this to Cheng Wenhui and Tan Lin. When they called ho, Tan Deming would only say that Tan You was doing well, was very obedient at ho, studied very hard, and so on.

During this ti, Tan You didn’t speak with Cheng Wenhui or the others either. Not that they found anything amiss—they had long grown accustod to their eldest daughter’s quiet nature.

Soon, it was July 5th. Two weeks had passed since Tan You completed her first mission. In those two weeks, she hadn’t gone out to do a single mission, instead pouring all her energy into three things.

First was studying, second was making clothes, and third was exercising. Compared to two weeks ago, Tan You’s weight hadn’t dropped much, but she looked a little slimr.

The most noticeable change was her face. It was like cool-toned white jade, so fair it seed to glow. The acne that once ravaged her skin had vanished completely, leaving her face as smooth as a peeled egg.

People say a fair complexion can hide a multitude of flaws, but Tan You didn’t feel much of anything about it. She personally didn’t place much importance on looks and truly paid no mind to the changes in her appearance. To be honest, she really felt the rewards drawn from the system were pretty useless.

Perhaps because she was naturally a quiet hobody, Tan You hadn’t gone out at all since returning. As a result, very few people in the village had noticed the change in her.

Tan You was happy for the peace and quiet. She had no friends in the village; even with her old childhood friends, she had very little contact. Besides, being alone and doing her own thing—Tan You really liked this state of being.

After returning control of her body to Han Tingting, Tan You spent ninety percent of her ti alone. She had long grown accustod to this solitude; in fact, she quite enjoyed it.

If soone were to suddenly appear by her side, she would instead feel that they were disturbing her peace.

"Are you sure you want to return the sewing machine?" Tan Deming asked for the final ti at noon.

"Yeah, go ahead and return it. I’m done using it." Tan You was looking at a high school math textbook, occasionally glancing down to jot a few formulas on a piece of scratch paper.

Her grandpa, Tan Deming, was also a man of few words, but he was well-connected and could get things done anywhere. When he learned Tan You wanted high school textbooks, her grandpa made a trip out and managed to pull together a complete set of books from all three years of high school, along with nurous test papers and workbooks.

"Alright. It’s a hobby, after all. It’s for the best that you know to focus on your studies." After confirming, Tan Deming moved the sewing machine onto the back of his electric tricycle.

"I know. I’m planning to get into a good university in the future. Mom has regretted not getting into college her whole life. I have to fulfill that dream for her." Tan You didn’t even look up. Cheng Wenhui placed imnse importance on college and had been pushing Tan You to study hard ever since she was little.

Tan Deming’s eyes crinkled as he smiled. "Good! If you get into a university, you’ll be the first in our family. Back in the old days, that would be a joyous event that brings great honor to the family na."

Tan You put down her book, her tone serious. "That day will co."

"Grandpa, where did you get all these books? A lot of the workbooks are completely empty." Getting so many books for free naturally made Tan You happy, but seeing the blank textbooks and exercises reminded her of Han Tingting’s old schoolbooks.
