Tan You knew all her secrets, including how heartbroken she was after breaking up with Xu Jike. Just as Tan You had said, a slow fade is agonizing.

You have to slowly reel in your feelings, slowly return to living on your own, and slowly push the other person out of your mories. None of it is easy.

Chi Mo said, "I eventually ca to understand that I had just run into two bad n. They might be successful in their careers, but their character isn’t anything to admire."

’Tan You knew Chi Mo was still a naive girl at heart; she wasn’t going to swear off relationships forever. In that case, I’ll just have to vet her prospects carefully,’ she thought. ’It’s all for Energy Points anyway. A little extra work is no big deal.’

"If you et a guy you like, let et him first. I’m a pretty good judge of character," Tan You said calmly. She wouldn’t stop Chi Mo from dating and getting married. After all, conventional wisdom said that won should marry and have children when they reach a certain age.

Besides, Chi Mo wasn’t the type to defy convention; she herself yearned for a happy family. That being the case, why should Tan You force her own ideals on her? It was fine for them to be different.

Chi Mo’s eyes curved into crescents. "Okay! I totally trust you. And I really agree with what you said, Youyou. I need to choose soone who’s already a good person and pay more attention to how he treats others, not just how he treats ."

"Of course, it’d be even better if he’s nice to everyone but still dotes on a little more."

Tan You said calmly, "That’s a given. In a relationship, your partner *should* be favored. If he treats you the sa as everyone else, then absolutely, *absolutely* do not choose him, because in his eyes, there’s no difference between you and anyone else."

Chi Mo cupped her cheeks. "So, I wonder what kind of person I’ll et in the future... I’m actually pretty happy knowing you’ll be there to vet them. To be honest, my parents aren’t great judges of character."

"Zheng Chen’s parents are actually very nice," Chi Mo said, hesitating for a mont at the ntion of his na. "When we were getting divorced, they tried to stop it because they didn’t think our problems were a big deal. I didn’t understand why Zheng Chen insisted on it back then, but I eventually figured it out."

"I was ready to work on our marriage, but he wasn’t. He wanted to play around for a few more years, to live without any ties. My getting sick just gave him the perfect excuse."

"That’s why I say he’s a man of low character," Tan You said, cutting straight to the point. "This is why we need to broaden our horizons. Once you’ve seen more of the world, you won’t be swayed by a few sweet words and small gifts."

"You already have fa, a career, and money. You really don’t need a man for the ’icing on the cake.’ Instead, you should see if he can provide you with emotional value."

"Emotional value?" Chi Mo looked confused. She was a bit of a beautiful airhead; how was she supposed to know what "emotional value" ant?

"Basically, see if he makes you happy and if you can relax around him. If you feel uncomfortable, uneasy, or just plain unhappy when you’re together, then there’s no point in seeing him again."

"Anyone who drains you emotionally is definitely not right for you. And of course, guard your wallet. Don’t let a man spend your money."

Chi Mo seed to only half-understand. "Ugh, thinking about all this gives a headache. Anyway, you’re here to screen them for , and you’re definitely a better judge of character than I am. I’ll just focus on eating, drinking, having fun, and carefully managing my dance career."

"You’ve already done so much for . I can’t be the one to drop the ball."

Tan You didn’t object to Chi Mo wanting to continue dancing; on the contrary, she was delighted. There’s sothing very compelling about a woman with her own career, as it’s the foundation of her independence.

"Since you put it that way, I won’t go easy on you. My standards are very high."

Chi Mo was full of confidence. "I will absolutely, positively not give up. I want to perform sothing truly amazing, too."

She used to be just an ordinary mber of the dance troupe, but now Tan You had propelled her to the role of principal. Naturally, Chi Mo couldn’t afford to slack off. She was also pretty tough-minded and didn’t waste ti worrying about whether she could live up to Tan You’s standard, focusing instead on just working as hard as possible.

Tan You loved this optimistic mindset. In fact, everyone likes being around optimists. They don’t drain your energy; on the contrary, they can make you feel happy yourself.

Drenched in sweat after another practice session, Chi Mo gasped for air. "I’m so exhausted. I don’t think I can lift a single finger."

She knew Tan You’s standards were high, but this was a bit much for her to handle.

Tan You, sitting in a corner of the studio, said, "Rest for ten minutes, then run through it two more tis and we’ll go ho. That’s about enough practice for today."

Staring at the ceiling, Chi Mo said, "No, I need to practice a few more tis. Like you said, Youyou, either don’t do it at all, or do it to the best of your ability. What’s the point of being diocre?"

Tan You loved this drive of Chi Mo’s. "I’ll be keeping a close eye on your condition. I think you’ve finally found sothing you’re truly passionate about."

Chi Mo’s gaze was distant. "I guess so. I used to feel like I was just drifting through life, but now I see that working hard for a dream is an amazing feeling. I’ve co to love dance from the bottom of my heart."

After a brief exchange, Chi Mo scrambled back to her feet and resud practicing. Tan You sat in the corner, her eyes filled with admiration as she watched the sweat-drenched girl on the dance floor.

Perhaps inspired by Tan You’s success, Chi Mo had been pushing herself relentlessly since she ca back. In her own words, Tan You had been in a movie and perford at the Spring Festival Gala, so she had to achieve that too.

Of course, Tan You wouldn’t object to Chi Mo’s ambitions. Having dreams and goals was a good thing. Why would anyone want to rain on her parade?

An opportunity ca quickly. After hanging up the phone with Director Liu, Chi Mo stood stunned for a few seconds before suddenly jumping into the air. "Director Liu wants to audition!"

Tan You reminded her, "It’s just for a dance part. That doesn’t really count as an audition, does it?"

"Who cares! It’s close enough," Chi Mo said, jumping up and down excitedly like a little lunatic.

"Are you sure you want to et Director Liu like this? I’ve always maintained my composure, you know." For two straight days, Chi Mo was practically vibrating with excitent. Her joy was palpable on the way to the eting, forcing Tan You to intervene.

"You know, big-shot directors like him are excellent judges of character. Sotis, they can see right into a person’s heart."

Chi Mo imdiately composed herself and tried to put on a serious expression, but the smile kept spilling out of her eyes.

Tan You put a hand to her forehead. "Is that your impression of ? That I always have a serious look on my face? I think I’m quite approachable."

"How can you be so mistaken about yourself?" Chi Mo retorted. "Whenever we’re together, you always have a serious look on your face. Especially when I’m dancing, you..."
