After observing Dorian, he reached this conclusion, which implied that...
In Dorian's hands, his own little life was very unstable.
Dorian believed the nonsense he had spouted earlier, thinking that there was an organization in Scaroon that worshipped Mad Fire, and he joyfully headed this way, claiming he wanted to join and contribute to the organization.
But Todd knew that there was no such organization; he had only learned about Mad Fire by accidentally seeing a newspaper from Warrior Country, most people didn't know about it at all, let alone have organized faith.
So, when Dorian arrived in Scaroon and found there was no such organization, his little life was dood.
To prevent that from happening, Todd tossed and turned on sleepless nights during the journey, contemplating multiple plans.
He had told Dorian to find research on Mad Fire when he was in Warrior Country, claiming he wanted to study and understand Mad Fire more deeply, and Dorian indeed found it for him.
As a result, upon further study, Todd discovered a fact that made his eyelid twitch wildly:
This Mad Fire, doesn't seem to be a good thing?
How does it seem like an infectious disease?
Realizing he might have stepped into a super dangerous pitfall, Todd found it impossible to turn back, and could only try his best every day to increase Dorian's favorability, hoping that once the truth was revealed, Dorian would spare him.
But later, an opportunity arose.
That day, they stayed the night in Hepa Town to rest, and Dorian was becoming restless from not finding the organization.
Todd was so afraid he considered attempting to escape, but escape would surely result in the old man finding him, whose strength could crush him.
During that restless night, the two children who had co for food earlier appeared.
"We believe in the God you worship, could you please give us so food?"
This sentence beca Todd's lifeline.
The next morning, he brought the siblings, who had cramd overnight on Mad Fire knowledge, to Dorian and sorrowfully announced that his organization was destroyed by so Church, and these two children were the only surviving escapees.
The siblings' acting skills were beyond ordinary, and they kept praising Mad Fire, saying it was the best, which made the ntally declining Dorian beco a cheerful and kind old grandpa.
At this mont, Todd went along with it and said, "We can rebuild the Church here, make the faith in Mad Fire great again!"
Dorian accepted this request without any doubt.
Just like that, Todd temporarily got away with it, keeping himself alive.
The old, sick, and weak of Hepa Town beca the first batch of followers of the Mad Fire Church, since they knew Todd and his group were their only food source, people were particularly loyal to the Mad Fire Church.
With this relationship in place, Todd dared to accept these people, temporarily using Hepa Town as the base.
Why didn't he leave this dangerous warzone?
Because he was betting, betting on being able to shake off Dorian.
Although this guy is very strong, he goes out every day to find people to believe in Mad Fire, and with a war going on outside, who knows if he might encounter an accident?
Todd had already decided, as long as Dorian didn't return for more than two days, he would imdiately run!
No turning back!
However, the relentless fact is, Dorian ca back whole every day, and even seed pretty happy, sotis even bringing back so good stuff.
Though it sounds odd.
But Todd felt like he was playing Travel Frog, and Dorian naturally was the frog son.
"As long as I'm still here, you all will have sothing to eat, be grateful, your happiness is built on my suffering."
He spoke in a voice only he could hear.
But, what if?
He showed a self-mocking smile and said:
"What if the Church could really get going?"
Todd didn't believe it himself.
Right at this mont, tremors suddenly ca from the ground, like heavy creatures were approaching.
He glanced into the distance, his face suddenly darkened.
"Did those war-fighting folks finally notice this place?"
He saw a group of armored figures riding giant horses toward them, appearing to be a squad.
From this viewpoint, it was impossible to tell whether the squad belonged to the Alliance of the Three Major Churches or the rebel army of the minor churches, but no matter which side they belonged to, Todd felt nothing good would co from it.
The crowd began to panic as well, and at this ti, he stood up and said:
"All of you hide, go into the cellar, I'll handle this!"
