Chapter 115: Identity Revealed, Bai Fu Is Actually the Sovereign of the Shadowed Night!
After leaving the Marsk Mutant Laboratory, Bai Fu sped along the road and quickly found the car she had abandoned earlier.
Since all the Players had died, she could only drive off in one of the vehicles herself. But it wasn’t a big issue—once she returned to Tongshan Camp, she would just issue a Quest for the Players to retrieve the rest.
Bai Fu ended up driving the entire day. By the ti she arrived at Tongshan Camp, the news of Hei Fu’s death had already spread completely among the Players.
Most Players didn’t actually care that much about Hei Fu’s death. After all, she hadn’t been around for long from her debut to her demise, and nobody had ford much of an impression of her.
【Prison vibe】、【Bai Fu’s little sister】、【Cold and aloof】、【I lusted after her body】……
These were the first impressions most Players had of Hei Fu.
But her death still stirred up intense discussions.
On one hand, it was because the Players from the Garden of Silence were too abstract—in the subforum of Shelter Number 11’s Community, they held a Cyber Funeral, attracting a flood of onlookers who ca purely for entertainnt.
On the other hand, Hei Fu’s death had been so sudden that it left many Players uneasy.
Those who liked Bai Fu worried that Hei Fu’s death would negatively affect her, and feared that Bai Fu might also suddenly die due to so unforeseen incident. Those who disliked Bai Fu were instead worried that their favorite NPCs might drop dead just as abruptly.
Sure, if an NPC died, they could vent their anger on the Developers—but that didn’t guarantee revival.
Due to these concerns, when Bai Fu arrived at Tongshan Camp, she found that the Players’ spirits were unusually low.
【If Bai Fu dies, where am I going to find another faction that’s this comfy】
【If Bai Fu dies there won’t be any more Prayer Cards on sale. Without Prayer Cards, how am I supposed to show off in the arena?!】
【We should find a way to lock Fu-fu up. Let her hand off all responsibilities to us—she just needs to look pretty and keep making Prayer Cards】
【Honestly, not a bad idea】
Bai Fu casually clicked on a few Community threads, only to find that Players were seriously discussing how to imprison her. And many were joining the discussion. The consensus reached was: it was currently impossible.
The gap in strength was just too vast.
But impossible now didn’t an impossible forever.
Bai Fu’s mouth twitched slightly.
Were these Players starting to lose it?
Such dangerous thoughts had to be stamped out imdiately before they took root—otherwise, who knew what these chaos-loving Players might try one day?
Never underestimate the creative antics of these Players. Bai Fu had seen plenty of examples in single-player gas where Players forcibly moved NPCs from one region to another by all sorts of ans. If they could do that in gas with limited freedom, they’d definitely be even more absurd in open ones.
The only reason they hadn’t gone overboard now was because they were afraid powerful NPCs would kill their accounts into uselessness. A powerful NPC slaying Players was no different from Lü Bu going berserk in Dynasty Warriors amidst a horde of low-level grunts.
“Hei Fu.”
Bai Fu waved at Hei Fu, who had been summoned as soon as her Resurrection Cooldown Ti ended.
The two of them walked side by side into Tongshan Camp.
“Eh? Fu-fu is back, and so is Fu-i… huh?”
“Wait, why is Fu-i here too?”
“Resurrection of the dead? Impure World Reincarnation?”
Hei Fu’s sudden appearance completely confused the Players in the camp. Wasn’t she supposed to be dead? Then what was going on?
Feigning ignorance, Bai Fu asked, “What’s wrong with you guys?”
A female Player explained, “Excavation‑Princess said your little sister died in battle. Everyone was heartbroken, but now she’s…”
Bai Fu “suddenly understood”: “I wanted to explain to Excavation‑Princess and the others back then, but they left in such a hurry. Hei Fu was indeed shattered during the battle with the Truth Society President, but as long as I’m still alive, she won’t truly die. She… how do I put it… she doesn’t have a real body. She exists in a very special state. If you don’t believe , just touch her arm.”
There wasn’t a single false word in Bai Fu’s explanation—she just didn’t spell out that Hei Fu was a True Spirit she had summoned.
A classic case of information asymtry.
Since Players had no idea that True Spirits even existed in the ga, once that female Player mustered her courage and touched Hei Fu’s icy hand, discussions about Hei Fu’s true nature and form of existence imdiately beca a trending topic.
【Ah, so Fu-i isn’t dead?】
【Salute the resurrection of the second Prison vibe enforcer of the stars!】
【Damn, that funeral was for nothing】
【No need to dwell on that. The fact she isn’t dead is good. The real issue is that Hei Fu might actually share a body with Fu-fu, just like Excavation‑Princess speculated】
【Yeah, even Fu-fu said it herself: as long as she doesn’t die, Fu-i won’t truly die either】
【So this ans Fu-i exists in spiritual form?】
【Seems like it. But does this ga even have spirits?】
“Spirit” beca the keyword.
Players from all over Origin Star started asking NPCs whether spirits existed in this world, catching many of the NPCs completely off guard.
“Spirits? Aren’t those just things from novels or legends?”
The information collected by a large number of Players indicated that no one on Origin Star had ever seen a real spirit.
Seeing the buzz, Players from other planets began asking the NPCs on their own worlds the sa question.
“I have a friend nad Bai Fu. She has a little sister nad Hei Fu…”
The results from low-martial and high-tech planets were largely the sa as those on Origin Star. But things were different on psychic and Esper-type planets.
NPCs from psychic planets:【Spirits? Of course they exist】
NPCs from demonic planets:【Twin sisters sharing one body? As long as the elder survives, so does the younger? I’ve got multiple ways to pull that off】
NPCs from Esper planets:【Bai Fu again? I swear, this isn’t the first ti you’ve brought her up!】
With spirits confird to exist, the theory posed by Excavation‑Princess—that Bai Fu and Hei Fu were twin souls sharing a single body—suddenly had credible theoretical backing.
Coincidentally, at this ti, Players across all factions on Origin Star received a new Quest to investigate Bai Fu’s true identity. As a result, the topic of uncovering Bai Fu’s real background exploded in popularity.
【This Quest reward is insane—200,000 XP, tons of Reputation and faction Favorability, plus a special Title!】
【Makes sense. My boss told Bai Fu is a high-level Esper. High-level Espers are NPCs who’ve unlocked Advanced classes. They’re already at the top of Origin Star. With her level, a Quest to investigate her would obviously have huge rewards】
【Damn, Fu-fu is so badass!】
【Didn’t Bai Fu hint before that she’s an Extraterrestrial Lifeform? Can I use that to complete the Quest?】
【Don’t bother. I already tried. Didn’t work. They didn’t believe and asked for evidence. Like I’ve got any】
But what truly catapulted the topic of investigating Bai Fu’s identity to the number one spot on the Community trending board was a post made by a Player nad【Gao Shan Liu Shui】.
Gao Shan Liu Shui ca from an Esper Power planet. To prove he wasn’t making things up, he even attached a video to his post.
【Family, I got locked up by NPCs just because I ntioned the na Bai Fu a few tis in front of them. Now they insist I explain exactly who Bai Fu is or they won’t let go. How the hell am I supposed to explain that?! I told them Bai Fu is a master from a distant planet—they didn’t believe and even beat up. This is so damn shrimp-brained!】
【?】
A flood of question marks filled the post.
Soon, more Players with similar experiences showed up to bump the thread.
【Damn, I thought I was the only one! That psychic mindmaster who caught directly used a brainwashing incantation on , demanding I reveal Bai Fu’s true identity. What the hell was I supposed to say? Ugh. Now I can’t even switch factions. This sucks.】
【Don’t even bring it up. I got hung up and tortured by a Demon Hunter for two hours. I was so bored I watched an entire movie. Gotta say, the female lead was pretty cute.】
These absurd experiences instantly boosted the topic’s popularity to an unexpected level.
Bai Fu was dumbfounded, especially after she received several system notifications.
They all followed the sa format—saying she had unlocked or increased Reputation with such-and-such faction. The ridiculous part was that those factions weren’t even on Origin Star.
Great. So I’m not even in the Jianghu, but my legend is spreading across it.
Looking at it rationally, Bai Fu could understand the NPCs’ reactions. The Players were already unusual enough to draw attention—now you had a bunch of these special entities constantly bringing up the sa na. Of course NPCs were curious.
They had to investigate. What if it turned out to be sothing serious?
Bai Fu originally thought that would be the end of it. But when she asked the Players at Tongshan Camp how their Quests were progressing, Players and NPCs on other planets stirred up new drama.
On a psychic Esper planet, a group of Espers gathered for a conference.
Citing evidence such as Players being able to resurrect, their unique communication thods, the repetition of Bai Fu’s na by Players in different locations, and the twin-soul theory, they let their imaginations run wild and proposed that Bai Fu was in fact the legendary “Sovereign of the Shadowed Night”.
【Sovereign of the Shadowed Night: the legendary two-faced demigod who governs death, the moon, shadowed nights, and nihilism. She possesses two souls—one appears harmless and gentle like a kind older sister from next door, the other is crafty and devious, taking delight in deception!】
【Believers of the Sovereign of the Shadowed Night successfully used rituals to commune with the demigod, receiving her blessing and gaining the power to rise from the dead!】
These Espers sincerely believed in their theory. Bai Fu shared far too many similarities with the Sovereign of the Shadowed Night, especially the trait of twin souls.
They were ecstatic about this discovery.
This was huge, man. Their first ti learning the true na of a mythical demigod.
So they announced it to the public. It had been several months since the Players entered the ga, and news traveled fast.
The first Player to catch wind of it imdiately posted it on the forum. Then other Players began researching the legends of this Beginner Planet and found that, if you squinted hard enough, Bai Fu really did resemble the Sovereign of the Shadowed Night.
Twin souls!
Bai Fu looked like a gentle older sister!
Her nickna was Silver Moon!
The Sovereign of the Shadowed Night was said to have been betrayed and fallen into slumber—Bai Fu had also claid she was betrayed!
Well damn, those similarities were kind of spot-on.
【Wait, could Bai Fu really be the Sovereign of the Shadowed Night?】
【No way, isn’t that just so demigod worshiped on a Beginner Planet? Fu-fu isn’t even from there】
【Don’t be so sure. Who says only that planet worships her? What if the Sovereign’s faith spans the whole universe? Fu-fu even hinted she ca from another planet】
【Feels exaggerated. The first female NPC you et in the Newbie Village turns out to be a demigod?】
【Brother, have you heard of Lag City and the Weak Warrior, and that woman who made people spend seventy grand?】
【@Excavation‑Princess what’s your take on this?】
Excavation‑Princess said she couldn’t comnt. This wasn’t information she’d uncovered herself. One wrong move, and she might lose her reputation as soone whose predictions about Bai Fu’s story never missed.
“……”
Bai Fu fell silent too.
Great, we’re doing the export-import shuffle now?
Most of those “divinations” by the Espers were things she’d made up to trick Players—like the twin soul thing, the gentle big-sister persona, the nickna, the betrayal.
Who would’ve thought her made-up lore would align with so ancient myth from a random Beginner Planet? It was like a monkey slamming a keyboard and accidentally typing out an existing short story.
Long term, this wasn’t a bad thing. The more mysterious and powerful Players believed she was, the better it was for her.
Short term, though, it posed a risk. Even if every other Beginner Planet’s NPCs believed she was the Sovereign of the Shadowed Night, it wouldn’t affect her. But the NPCs on Origin Star were another matter.
If they got wind of this and believed it, and started thinking things like “there’s no room for soone this powerful on Origin Star,” that could cause real trouble.
“Looks like I need to level up before the trouble finds .”
Bai Fu decided not to return to the Goli Desert for now. Instead, she instructed Players to deliver Carlisle’s body—brought back by accident—to the desert. She told Old Nissen and Gao Yuan to recruit more Players. If they couldn’t make the trip, send a vehicle to pick them up. Ideally, bring the player count up to four or five thousand.
That way, the rebuilding of the Goli Desert could proceed faster, helping her complete the Main Storyline Quest sooner, while also boosting the security of Shelter Number 11.
After giving those instructions, she retrieved the Obsidian Shard from Pratt and began intervening in the Quest she had previously issued to Players.
During her absence, Players had actually uncovered so valuable information.
Just as she had suspected, the Old Republic did possess a dicine that could treat the infection spreading through Tongshan Camp—but they deliberately refused to sell it.
To uncover their true motive, so Players tried tailing the researchers who developed the【Muscle Enhancent Potion】. The Old Republic’s security was tight, so no conclusive evidence was found. But they did discover those researchers were secretly communicating with the Old Republic’s intelligence departnt. The conclusion: the plague and the dicine were all part of a sche by the Old Republic.
“They’re probably using the camp as a test site!”
“Our next move is to seize the ds. We’ll grab the full version of the Muscle Enhancent Potion, cure the infected in camp, and then… kidnap those researchers! No way we won’t get the truth out of them!”
Now that’s what you call professionalism.
Bai Fu nodded. As the Players had leveled up, their competence had started to show. It looked like she didn’t need to intervene much—just sit back and let them do the work.
“Any leads on the Psionic Diffusion Committee investigation?”
Convert to My Fu said, “We researched the Old Republic’s history. It was ford from remnants of the pre-war superpower, the Orion Republic. After the Great War and the Cataclysm, surviving Orion politicians and military-industrial complexes banded together to form the Old Republic. Initially, it was the most powerful force on Origin Star. But during their research into Mutant technology, sothing went wrong and triggered the Mutant Uprising. The Old Republic suffered severe losses. So anti-Mutant factions split off and ford the Human Alliance.”
“Given this background, they likely have first-hand data on the Psionic Diffusion Committee. So we looked into the leadership of the Old Republic. We found that most of their classified intel is managed by the intelligence departnt’s archive division. The truth about the Mutant Uprising also leaked from there. So we suspect the Psionic Diffusion Committee’s files are in the sa place. The person currently in charge of that division is Deputy Director Behim.”
Ah, our old friend again!
After hearing Convert to My Fu’s report, Bai Fu saw that the Hidden Main Quest【The False Savior】Branch 1【Grudges of the Past】now had updated Quest info and rewards.
【Quest Description: It’s said that most of the Old Republic’s secrets are kept in the intelligence departnt’s archive division. The person currently overseeing it is Behim. Try to obtain the Psionic Diffusion Committee’s roster from him.】
【Reward: 200,000 XP, Exploration Progress, Reminiscence Fragnt】
The reward made Bai Fu raise an eyebrow.
200,000 XP?
A bit low for her current level.
But the key rewards were the Exploration Progress and the Reminiscence Fragnt.
Exploration Progress was straightforward—she already had 2.2% of Origin Star’s Storyline Exploration Progress. As for Reminiscence Fragnts, this wasn’t her first encounter with them.
One of the rewards for the mission issued by Xia Shi to investigate the Source of Psionic Power had been a Reminiscence Fragnt.
“Are Reminiscence Fragnts always tied to missions that explore past events?”
Bai Fu couldn’t help but make so connections.
Maybe these so-called Fragnts were actually dungeon keys that allowed one to challenge past events.
If so, that ant another avenue to farm XP!
