Now reading: Chapter 57 - 57 57 Cutting Off the Source of Stress from Who would study psychology unless they had some issues?!, a Urban novel by Panda's Big Log Cabin.

57: Chapter 57: Cutting Off the Source of Stress 57: Chapter 57: Cutting Off the Source of Stress Nan Zhubin’s face had grown indescribably serious without him even realizing it.

Chen Ting’s narration continued.

“At first, he just got a little close.

Later, he started occasionally touching my arms, shoulders, legs, waist…”

“I was participating in the self-admission of the law departnt, so he started telling about cases, and then, over ti, he increasingly involved cases related to sexual cris.”

“I felt uncomfortable, but since it was part of learning, I didn’t think much of it.”

“Until the last ti he ca, he directly hugged and kissed …”

“He said he knew I was a smart and good girl the first ti he saw …”

“That after teaching , he liked more and more…”

Nan Zhubin gritted his molars.

Actually, after being a consultant for a long ti, many consultants face two major issues: loss of empathy and emotional exhaustion.

Loss of empathy cos from seeing too much, witnessing too much.

Many novice consultants can deeply empathize with heartbreak topics to the point of frowning and tearing up; but after working for five or ten years, even when hearing about dostic violence, their reaction may just be “oh, that’s nothing new.”

Emotional exhaustion is similar.

After encountering too many incidents and witnessing too much of the dark side of human nature, consultants find it difficult to be emotionally stirred by clients.

But what Nan Zhubin heard today was sothing no consultant could ignore.

Even if he had suspected it in his mind before, at this mont Nan Zhubin still needed to take a deep breath to keep himself calm, ensuring his expression and tone did not fluctuate so the consultation could continue.

Chen Ting was still speaking.

“I was very scared, I scread and pushed him away, I told him there were caras at ho, he got scared.

But the next day, he still ca.”

Chen Ting’s voice trembled as if standing on the edge of a cliff: “As if, as if nothing had happened…”

Here, Chen Ting paused.

Nan Zhubin forced his tone to be soothing in nature:

“Do your parents know about this?”

“No, I didn’t tell them…”

“…Why?”

“Because, because.” Chen Ting said, “I want to get into the law departnt at Jiangdu University through self-admission.”

Her narration, previously broken and hesitant, suddenly beca resolute here, as if she was speaking of sothing more important than anything else in the world.

Nan Zhubin suddenly thought of a post he saw a few days ago, titled: “In that year of senior high school, I thought of jumping off a building but never thought of dropping out.”

“So, he continued to teach you?”

“Yes, he…

stopped touching, but when he talks, he seems to probe now and then.”

Chen Ting pressed her lips, “I thought everything would be fine once I got into college.

Then I got in, and my parents thanked him, saying he took pains, thanked him for his care, saying his classes were good, and that they would trouble him with friends in the future.”

Nan Zhubin couldn’t help but press his lips.

“I initially thought everything would be fine once I got into college, but now, my mother found him again; he will be my college ntor, for four more years ahead.”

“He said he would guide my thesis, take to do projects, and in the future, take on business trips, and abroad to attend forums and conferences.

Four years is a long ti, to take things slow…”

Nan Zhubin took a deep breath to calm his tone:

“You didn’t tell your parents before because you thought it would end after you passed the college entrance exam.

But now it’s different, there’s no end to this matter; have you considered telling them now?”

Chen Ting bit her lip until distinct teeth marks appeared on it.

“I don’t want to tell them.”

“Why?”

“If I tell them, I might get expelled.”

Tears filled Chen Ting’s eyes: “Teacher Wang, Wang An, he said he studied law himself.

He has always been very careful and didn’t leave any evidence for .

He explained a lot of school rules and many related legal provisions, saying that even if I told my parents, it wouldn’t help.

Instead, without evidence, I could get myself into trouble and be expelled…”

“I can’t be expelled; I have to complete my studies and graduate from the law departnt of Jiang University…”

“I was thinking if I could find a way to avoid him myself and hold on.

But, but, recently I really feel like I can’t do it anymore…”

Chen Ting looked up with tear-filled eyes: “Mr.

Nan, what should I do?”

This was the first ti in so long that Chen Ting actively sought help from Nan Zhubin.

For the first ti, she wanted advice from Nan Zhubin in person.

This was a significant breakthrough in psychological consultation.

If it weren’t for Chen Ting’s recent narration, perhaps Nan Zhubin might have rejoiced at this breakthrough.

Now, however, his face was solemn.

Nan Zhubin spoke slowly in as steady a tone as possible: “I ntioned before that your situation is stress-related; now it seems you are still in a stress event and stress context.”

“Regarding your current self-experience, I would lean towards using [System Desensitization Therapy].”

“This therapy employs a hierarchy of relaxation thods, allowing you to gradually approach the stimulus you fear.

While the stimulus that triggers your fear appears, I will train you to exhibit responses that inhibit fear and anxiety, using this response to weaken, eventually sever the conditioned link between the stimulus and anxiety.

Until the fear of this stimulus is entirely eradicated.”

The inford consent of the client is an indispensible right, and consultants need to communicate thoroughly with the client regarding the consultation plan.

What thod is used in the subsequent plan, what effect this plan has, must be explained and agreed upon by the client.

Chen Ting stared at Nan Zhubin, unmoving.

“However, before implenting [System Desensitization], I have a suggestion.”

“What suggestion?”

Nan Zhubin said slowly: “Since it is a stress-related problem, then—[Cutting off the stress source] is the simplest, most direct, and effective thod.”

Chen Ting, filled with confusion, had tears welling up in her eyes, but forgetting to let them fall.

“How, how to cut it off?”

Nan Zhubin was about to speak.

Suddenly, bursts of noise erupted outside the door.

Even though the consultation room had soundproofing, the voices from outside could be clearly heard.

“Tingting?”

“Tingting—”

“Tingting!”

Chen Ting’s tears, which had been in her eyes, suddenly fell.

She recognized the voice.

“It’s Mom!”

“What do I do, what do I do?

It’s Mom, how does she know I’m here!”

“What do I do?!”

Even without micro-expression analysis, her body visibly conveyed anxiety and fear to the outside.

Nan Zhubin took a deep breath, knowing trouble was at hand.

He lowered his voice and softened his tone as much as possible: “Chen Ting.”

It was as if a large hand reached through and soothed the turbulent heart inside, and Chen Ting abruptly cald down.

Still anxious, still fearful.

But she fluttered her eyes and ca to a stop.

Looking at Nan Zhubin.

As if grasping a lifeline.

Nan Zhubin also looked at Chen Ting.

“Chen Ting, listen to …”
