Capítulo 849: Chapter 696: Disassembly

Mo Kai and Nan Zhubin said, “Senior brother, you see, at the company’s clear downsizing juncture, right?”

Nan Zhubin nodded, “Yes.”

“And at this ti, suddenly we arrive, an external team focusing on personnel administration, and with everyone in the company—everyone, there’s no conflict of interest.”

Mo Kai made an exaggerated gesture, his facial expression growing weirder as he reviewed the situation.

“At this point, isn’t the timing of our group’s arrival a bit off?”

“No matter how you look at it, we’re perfect for this downsizing task!”

“Not to ntion those employees, even I am a bit doubtful, wondering if Uncle Wang has so hidden motives he hasn’t told about…”

You know what, you really know what.

Nan Zhubin fell into silence for a mont, just about to speak.

“Knock, knock, knock—”

The door to the EAP office was knocked on again. It was Shi Chuxin.

They initially thought that this senior sister ca over for so work-related matters that needed communication, but after so brief pleasantries, Shi Chuxin’s first words were, “Junior brother, did Chen Lizhou go to see the doctor over the weekend? Did he give any results to you?”

The sa question again.

Nan Zhubin frowned slightly, feeling that Shi Chuxin’s concern for Chen Lizhou was a bit too much, nearly crossing a boundary.

“Senior sister, I have a confidentiality agreent.”

Shi Chuxin took a deep breath, “Alright, let rephrase—does he have any risks of self-harm or suicide? At least in the recent months, is there any risk?”

This outco can indeed be communicated.

Nan Zhubin organized his wording, “I can only say, my assistant has been in continuous contact with Chen Lizhou during this ti. And from the results of their chat records, his risk in this aspect is very low.”

He phrased it delicately, only saying that this conclusion was “derived from chat records,” as for whether Chen Lizhou has been to the hospital—still can’t be disclosed.

Shi Chuxin squinted her eyes, staring at Nan Zhubin for a while, finally nodding her head.

“Alright, I trust your judgnt.”

You and the senior sister don’t seem to be that familiar, yet you just trust ?

“Why suddenly ask about Chen Lizhou’s matters?” Nan Zhubin suddenly asked.

Shi Chuxin let out a long breath, “Today I have work-related matters to communicate with him. But when I just tried to find him, I discovered… he hasn’t co to work yet.”

—————–

Ti rewinds to the previous day, Sunday.

Chen Lizhou left the ntal wellness center, his shadow stretched straight by the afternoon sun.

After photographing all the diagnostic reports and related written materials and sending them to Mo Kai, he began to drive ho. The traffic was slow, Chen Lizhou’s hand holding the steering wheel was steady without a trace of shake, the car speed consistently within the limit.

He couldn’t feel the noise of the surrounding traffic, nor perceive the warmth of the sunlight streaming through the car window, the entire world seed veiled with mist.

Being diagnosed at the ntal wellness center should be considered a significant event in his life; deciding to cooperate with the company’s consultant to formally start prolonged intervention also requires thorough consideration.

But Chen Lizhou felt, these matters gave him only as much impact and ntal exertion as the physical act of turning on the indicator to turn left; no different.

Upon opening the door, the hallway light was off, with only faint light shining from the living room. Chen Lizhou’s movents were light when changing shoes, his leather shoes barely made a sound on the floor.

Just entering the living room, he heard the faint sound of crying coming from the direction of the sofa.

He looked there, seeing his daughter Chen Wenyan sitting.

His daughter was already in fourth grade, so he felt assured to leave her ho alone on Sundays. At this mont, the little girl was curled up in the corner of the sofa, clutching a notebook with a dark blue cover tightly to her chest, her shoulders trembling, tears soaking the edge of the pages.

Chen Lizhou recognized the notebook his daughter was holding; it was his wife’s lesson planner from when she was alive.

He stood still, watching his daughter’s small figure, his face devoid of expression twitched slightly. He felt the crying in his ears seed to co from far away, blurry and noisy.

Yet, his throat moved, still controlling his facial expression to soften, stepping forward to gently hold his daughter, “Yanyan, what’s wrong?”

“Daddy, you’re back…” The answer was no surprise, “I… I miss mom.”

His daughter held her mother’s lesson planner, “It has mom’s writing, whenever I see it, I miss her…”

It’s been a long ti since his wife passed away. Chen Lizhou knew, because of work he’d been less present for his daughter, leaving the parenting mostly to his wife, who was an elentary school teacher. Thus, compared to himself, his daughter was closer to her mother.

His daughter’s emotions were more delicate too, so she’s been slow to erge from the shadow of losing her mother.

But to Chen Lizhou, since his wife passed away, he’d been comforting his daughter for a long ti, it seed everything that should be said has been said.

He was running out of comforting words.

Ultimately, Chen Lizhou simply held his daughter, rhythmically patting her back.

“If seeing this makes you upset… then don’t look at it, I’ll put the notebook away.”

“Don’t cry, mom wouldn’t be happy to see Yanyan so sad.”

His tone was quite gentle.

His daughter didn’t respond to Chen Lizhou’s words, only continued to sob curled up.

Chen Lizhou maintained the position, his arms growing sowhat sore, yet didn’t move, until the crying gradually diminished, his daughter raised her head, rubbed her eyes saying, “Daddy, I’m sleepy.”

Only then did Chen Lizhou slowly stand up, take his daughter’s hand, and accompany her back to the bedroom.
