Chapter 141: Oh No, Looks Like I've Wandered Into a Wolf's Den
Leah pushed open the Manor gate and stood in the courtyard, gazing at the crowd that had gathered.
Leon was standing at the entrance of the Manor, and beside her stood another Elf with the sa pointed, elongated ears.
The appearance of an Elf naturally drew the curiosity of many Maidservants, who had gathered around to watch.
Leah waved a hand, dispersing the Maidservants.
Then, she turned her gaze toward the Elf.
She had a head of long golden hair that danced and fluttered through the air.
White silk draped around her fra, and her pale skin seed to shimr faintly under the sunlight.
Her small body looked sowhat unsteady on its feet, like a delicate flower bud in the cold—standing stiffly beside Leon, looking a little ill at ease.
Leon ca to Leah's side and said respectfully:
"Miss Leah, she says her na is Resi."
The Resi before them appeared quite frail, yet her personality seed to be at odds with her looks.
She held her chin up with a certain pride, sizing up Leah in return.
But upon hearing the respectful tone in Leon's voice, she looked sowhat taken aback.
"Sa…sa kin?"
"Why are you being so deferential to a re human?"
Hearing Resi's words, Leah raised an eyebrow.
This Elf didn't seem very fond of humans.
"Be quiet."
Leon's indifferent voice cut through the air. The gaze concealed beneath her hood flashed like a sliver of cold light as she shot Resi a frigid glance.
Resi seed startled, staring at her in a daze—only to receive more of Leon's sa cold, distant words.
"I have no kin like you."
The air around them seed to tighten. Leah sensed the delicate tension and quickly stepped in to smooth things over.
"Alright, alright, that's enough."
"Leon is my family—she's only looking out for ."
As she spoke, Leah gently patted Leon on the back, signaling her to ease up a little.
The last thing she wanted was for Leon's attitude toward Resi to spawn rumors, saddling her with the cri of abducting an Elf.
Oh, Cocotte didn't count.
As she always said—Cocotte was her own employee, bound by Contract.
To be squeezed at will.
"Alright, Leon, let's leave it at that."
Hearing Leah's words, Leon finally composed herself, turned her head away, and said nothing more.
Resi still seed unable to accept it—but then she saw Leah smiling warmly as her voice rang out.
"I hear you're looking for the Elven Queen?"
"As it happens, I do have so information."
***
Inside the Manor's opulent hall, a faint trace of incense seed to drift through the air.
The grand hall's center was dominated by several enormous sofas.
Floor-length black-and-gold drapes covered most of the tall windows.
Only a sliver of sunlight filtered through the gaps and spilled down from the skylight above.
Leah sat on one of the sofas, with Resi seated naturally across from her.
Slow, white clouds drifted past the vaulted glass ceiling, and the deep blue of the sky reflected across the faces of everyone present.
Leon stood behind Leah, every bit the picture of a personal bodyguard.
"Why were you caught…mixed in with that Demi-human ship convoy?"
Leah asked Resi pleasantly.
For an Elf—especially one who seed as proud as Resi—the passive word "caught" was naturally not sothing that could be used.
And so Leah quickly corrected herself.
Sure enough, the Elf simply tilted her head back slowly, looking suprely self-assured and confident.
"I left the Elven Forest to search for the Queen, and happened to run into that group of humans in the wilderness."
"They said they could help find the Queen—on the condition that I go with them and help them with sothing."
"So I went with them."
She spread her hands, her tone carrying an unmistakably calm composure.
As if she were telling Leah that if she hadn't chosen to go with those people of her own accord, there was absolutely no way she could have been captured.
Leah listened, her face wearing an expression of complete agreent as she nodded along.
"And do you have any impression of those people who caught…the ones you encountered?"
"Eh? An impression?"
Resi raised one finger to her chin, her eyes blinking as they drifted left and right, as if trying to recall sothing rather troubleso.
"I just rember there was a warrior in there carrying a sword—looked pretty strong, I had quite an impression of him."
"Of course, he's definitely not as good as ."
As she spoke, she crossed one leg over the other, spread her arms wide along the back of the long sofa, and opened both palms outward.
As she thought back to the Swordsman's appearance, a faint trace of disdain seed to linger on Resi's face.
Leah watched her, smiled, and gave an appreciative clap of her hands.
"Wow, how impressive."
"Oh right, it's early morning—not much to offer, but how about so tea?"
"Helnersen? Would you mind brewing a pot and bringing it up?"
Leah called out over her shoulder, then turned back around to look at Resi.
"We only have tea here—you don't mind, do you?"
Resi wore an unbothered expression and waved her hand.
"It's fine. No matter how precious human things are, they're nothing special—ordinary tea will do."
"Back when I was still in the Elven Forest, what I drank was the natural dew of heaven and earth. Of course, the dew we had there was no ordinary dew."
"Elves would collect it and bless it with the power of nature—unbelievably sweet. If humans like you drank it, it could even extend your lifespan."
Leah narrowed her eyes again, gave another gentle clap of her hands, tilted her head, and smiled.
"Wow, how impressive."
"Naturally. There's so much more you've never seen."
Hearing Leah's flattery, Resi seed thoroughly pleased, growing more and more proud.
She tilted her head back, as if the next mont she might float right up into the sky.
Leah said nothing more—she simply kept smiling, watching her quietly.
Resi was still gazing upward at the brilliant blue sky.
But why did everything seem to be swaying slightly?
The expression on her face stiffened almost imperceptibly.
From outside the room ca a series of trendous rumbling vibrations.
As though the entire earth were trembling.
Resi started as if frightened, quickly hunching her shoulders and covering her ears.
"Uwah, what's happening?!"
"Don't be nervous—that's probably just the sound of our family Knights doing their daily training."
Leah explained with a smile, as though nothing at all had happened.
Resi looked utterly baffled, staring at Leah in surprise.
"D…daily training? Can training make that much noise?"
"It's nothing much—their training usually involves carrying so rocks, going for runs, practicing horseback riding, that sort of thing."
***
Out on the Training Ground, a dense formation of Knights was lined up across the field.
Every single one of them had an enormous boulder strapped to their back.
Those boulders had to be the height of 3 or 4 n stacked together—towering over the Knights like small mountains.
Yet the Knights looked as if they bore no weight at all, easily carrying those massive stones as they ran back and forth across the vast Training Ground.
After one full circuit, they suddenly released the boulders onto the ground at once, sending a cloud of dust rolling outward.
A sound like an earthquake reverberated through the entire Manor—as if a testant to their effort.
A Cat-girl instructor wearing an instructor's cap, black cat ears poking out from beneath it, blew a whistle and kept calling out commands from the side.
"Next round of training! Keep going!"
The Demi-human thod of training in the wild turned out to be surprisingly effective for the human Knights as well.
Leah crossed one leg over the other as well, one hand raised to her lips, half-covering her mouth as she chuckled softly.
"Just the sort of training any ordinary person could manage."
Resi: "……"
Resi was still confused—just what kind of training could produce such a colossal sound, reaching her ears so clearly?
But then, all at once, an oppressive pressure of trendous force swept in from behind.
Like a powerful, cold-blooded beast lurking in the shadows, staring directly at her.
Resi's neck instantly went rigid, and a few beads of cold sweat seeped out at the back of her neck.
Like an enormous shadow, blocking out the sunlight above her head, swallowing her completely.
Soon, the shadow gradually pulled back from behind her.
A figure moved past Resi.
He looked like a giant—the height of 2 n combined, with an incomparably powerful build.
Even through the butler's uniform he wore, the terrifying muscles wound so tight they looked ready to burst through the fabric were impossible to miss.
Like a great bear rearing up on its hind legs, standing right beside Resi.
In his massive palm, he carried a tray.
The tray—sothing an ordinary person would carry with a single hand—looked almost small compared to his enormous palm.
On the tray sat a beautifully crafted porcelain teapot, its fragrance drifting gently through the air.
The giant Bear-man used 2 fingers to delicately pinch a teacup, as if afraid to apply too much force, and set it carefully on the table between Resi and Leah.
Then, using those sa fingers to handle the teapot—which likewise looked dainty in his grip—he poured tea into both of their empty cups.
The water level was controlled to perfection. Not a single drop was spilled, nor were the cups overfilled.
Resi stared, utterly dazed.
That enormous fra, paired with the delicate tea set, looked hopelessly mismatched.
Yet his practiced, elegant movents seed to have been honed through countless repetitions, as though it were second nature.
Resi couldn't understand it.
Having done all of this, the Bear-man gave a slow, deep bow to them both.
A powerful surge of presence radiated steadily from his body, as though it had completely enveloped Resi.
"Please, enjoy."
The sheer weight of that presence rattled Resi so thoroughly that both her hands trembled uncontrollably. She bowed her head, and the proud air she had carried just monts ago seed to have vanished entirely.
"Th…th…th…th…th……thank you for the hospitality."
Leah picked up her teacup and gave Helnersen a warm, smiling nod.
"Thank you, Helnersen—you may go and rest now."
"Miss Leah, please don't hesitate to call on should you need anything."
He gave Leah a respectful bow, and as he straightened up, he briefly glanced at Resi.
Just that one glance—and Resi sat frozen on the sofa, as if her soul had left her body.
Even after Helnersen's massive fra had departed, Resi still hadn't co back to herself.
As though that overwhelming presence still hadn't fully lifted from her.
Until Leah's voice reached her:
"Hmm? What's wrong? You look a little unwell."
"Uh, oh, huh? I, I, I—I'm fine, I'm perfectly fine."
Hearing Leah's voice, Resi finally snapped back to her senses, managing a stiff smile.
Apparently trying to ease the awkwardness, she picked up her teacup and gulped down a mouthful of tea.
But the very next second, she clamped her mouth shut.
H…hot!
Even as her face flushed red, she refused to open her mouth and spit it out.
This temperature—as an Elf, she could handle it!
Resi forced herself to swallow it down, enduring the scalding heat.
The corners of her eyes were stung so badly that a few tears squeezed out—yet she still managed to set the teacup down with composure.
"Mmm……this tea……is quite good!"
Leah smiled, gently blew on her own cup, took a small sip, and set it down.
"That person just now is our family's Steward. Don't let the size fool you—he's actually very nimble and precise."
"I just knew his tea would satisfy you."
Resi nodded in very sincere agreent.
"Mm, mm, I believe you are absolutely right."
Nimble and precise?
Did she think she couldn't tell that was a Bear-man?
The oppressive weight Helnersen carried was terrifying beyond asure.
It felt as though, with a single punch, he could kill her outright.
Resi had a strong feeling she had sohow stumbled into a wolf's den. She was starting to regret it now.
If she had known it would co to this, nothing in the world could have made her co to the Clavena Family.
Knights whose training alone could set off sothing like an earthquake.
And that terrifying Bear-man.
That Bear-man had to be the strongest one in the household……
Resi didn't want to stay here another second. Keeping up a pained smile, she said:
"Umm……perhaps we should get to the matter at hand, Miss Leah."
"Ah, you an about the Elven Queen? That……"
Leah smiled faintly—but that smile looked as though it was filled with calculation, like sothing a devil might wear.
"You'll have to ask my elder brother. He tends to know more about these things."
"Your……elder brother?"
Resi blinked, montarily thrown.
Then, all at once, an aura even more devastating to her composure surged to the top of her head in an instant.
In a daze, it was as though she had been transported to a vast, silent land.
A scorching sun hung in the sky above, and the surroundings seed to be completely swallowed by a dense, primordial forest.
And then, in that primal forest, it was as though she glimpsed sothing of unspeakable terror.
2 titanic beasts, appearing in mid-air.
One was wreathed in erupting lava, while the other was coiled in twisting wooden vines.
The utterly terrifying pressure they exerted drenched Resi in a cold sweat.
Clack! Clack!
The crisp sound of footsteps on stairs rang out steadily.
And with it, Resi's consciousness was yanked sharply back to reality.
She couldn't help but look toward the source of the sound.
What t her eyes was a cold, composed face erging slowly from the darkness.
Before Resi could get a proper look, an indifferent gaze—sharp as a blade—pierced straight through her.
"I hear you have sothing to discuss?"
