Chapter 145: So You're the One Who Grabbed My Employee, Huh?

The tall Manor buildings crumbled one after another. Dust and smoke billowed outward, blanketing the vast Courtyard in a swirling, churning brown.

Viktor stood behind Jess Rether, watching him with cold, indifferent eyes.

The Coat on his body stirred continuously in the gusting dust. The white Runes upon it glowed faintly, repelling the surging debris and dust in all directions.

Hearing that all-too-familiar voice, Jess's heart lurched.

It was as though a massive boulder had been suddenly hoisted up and lodged itself in his throat.

He hadn't even noticed—at all—when Viktor had appeared.

Like a gust of wind, he had simply materialized behind him.

Jess's expression stiffened. As if steel nails had been driven into his muscles, he forced himself to appear calm:

"Viktor……Council mber Clavena."

"I'm not sure I follow what you an."

Viktor's eyes were utterly still, without a ripple.

"Didn't quite catch it?"

A Magic Formation surfaced behind Viktor, the array spinning rapidly into shape.

A flash of white light—and Cindy, who had been lying on the ground, was enveloped in a white mbrane and lifted into the air, drifting to a stop right in front of Jess.

"This person—you should recognize her."

"I'm the one who did that to her."

Hearing Viktor's words, Jess shuddered violently.

He had been looking at the unconscious, heavily wounded Cindy before him and assud it was the Bear-man who had beaten her to this state.

But it was Viktor who had done it?!

His face remained taut. His eyes darted about, and beads of sweat began to seep across his forehead.

But then……what was the deal with that Bear-man?

Jess couldn't connect that enormous Bear-man to Viktor in any way.

A Bear-man—how could such a creature ever follow the orders of a human?

Yet what he witnessed next upended everything he thought he knew.

Viktor called out toward the rolling cloud of dust:

"Helnersen."

The instant the words left his mouth, a powerfully built Bear-man slowly erged from within the smoke.

His body was completely unscathed. Only his clothing had been torn in a few places.

A powerful aura radiated steadily with each breath he drew, and the sound of his heartbeat—like the thunderous pounding of a war drum—carried to Jess's ears.

As his enormous, powerfully built fra fully erged into the sunlight, the dense smoke gradually cleared.

The vast ruins behind him ca into view. Broken stones tumbled continuously, crashing into the shattered rubble and debris below.

The gutted remains of the buildings looked as though they might collapse entirely at any mont.

The fountain pool that had been flowing monts ago was now split clean in 2. The water still surged forth—but now it poured into the ruins below.

The great twisted iron gates had been flung into the wreckage, groaning and creaking with every shift.

As for the Family Knights and Maidservants? Not a trace of them remained.

Caught within the blast radius of the battle, they had nearly all vanished beneath that single attack.

This once-grand Courtyard was now buried completely beneath jagged stone and splintered wood.

Only Helnersen remained—his towering fra standing with his back to the collapsed ruins, utterly composed.

At the sight of it, Jess's mind let out a resounding buzz.

"Wh……why?"

He stared at the Magic Cannon still clenched awkwardly in his trembling hands.

That shot had clearly landed directly on the Bear-man's body.

Beneath that blinding white light, no living creature should have been able to survive.

Even a Bear-man……

But just what on earth was this Bear-man?

Jess's eyes trembled violently in their sockets. Overco by despair, he released his grip on the Magic Cannon.

He slowly lowered his head and looked at his own hands.

Those hands were shaking uncontrollably, gripped by fear and disbelief.

Perhaps it was the overwhelming terror spreading through every inch of him—his vision darkened, his legs buckled, and he dropped straight down onto the cracked floor.

"Surprised?"

Viktor said, his tone flat.

Helnersen took slow, heavy steps, closing the distance toward Jess Rether 1 step at a ti.

A sharp wave of crisis surged through Jess. He tilted his head up, watching the terrifying Bear-man tremble.

He saw the enormous Bear-man fold his thick arms across his chest, stand steady before Viktor, and give a slight bow.

"Master."

Jess's mind went blank in an instant.

Ma……master?

This Bear-man……was actually, truly Viktor's man?!

How on earth had he managed that?!

Jess's body trembled even harder. He looked up at Viktor and urgently asked:

"Is he……a Demi-human slave?"

Hearing this, Helnersen lowered his head and looked down at Jess from above:

"Allow to introduce myself, Mr. Jess."

"I am the Steward of the Clavena Family—Helnersen."

His words carried a courtesy and deference that seed entirely at odds with his imposing fra.

Yet the powerfully built body beneath Helnersen's composed and refined deanor gave Jess a profoundly ominous feeling.

As though it were a warning.

Just 1 punch.

Yes—1 punch from the Bear-man before him.

Would be enough to kill him.

Jess's eyes went wide, his mouth hanging open.

"Ste……Steward?"

The Clavena Family had actually allowed a Demi-human to serve as their Steward?

And not just any Demi-human—a Bear-man at that!

How was that even possible?

The ferocity of a Bear-man was simply beyond the imagination of ordinary people.

In the minds of every human who had ever encountered one, Bear-n were creatures that simply could not communicate with humans.

They were like true wild beasts—possessing strength greater than even real bears.

And far more ferocious and savage on top of that.

Yet the Bear-man before him had completely shattered everything he believed.

But very soon, Viktor's voice rang out directly above him.

"Just a reminder—I didn't co here to make small talk."

Jess shuddered again.

Only then did he realize he was already sandwiched between the 2 of them.

Even if he tried to call for help, there was no way any ssage could get out.

Flee?

There was no fleeing from a Bear-man like this.

He needed to save himself, he needed to save himself!

Jess Rether's mind raced at full speed. He raised his head to look at Viktor and quickly said:

"Council mber Clavena……there may be so misunderstanding between us."

"A misunderstanding?"

Viktor looked at Jess, then leaned his body backward toward the ground behind him.

In the instant he tilted back, sothing like black ink materialized from the ground, rapidly assembling itself into a black chair that caught and supported Viktor's body.

He propped 1 elbow on the armrest, rested his face against his hand, and regarded Jess with sothing resembling interest.

"Go on."

Thinking at lightning speed, Jess suddenly hit upon a way to save himself:

"As you can see, Council mber……Cindy was dispatched by our main household to carry out the task of capturing Demi-humans and Elves."

"We did break the law, and for that, I am willing to serve ti in prison."

Jess's aning was clear.

Cindy had nothing to do with him personally—she had been dispatched by the Rether Family's main household.

He himself knew nothing.

But as the heir of the Rether Family, he couldn't completely evade responsibility either.

So Jess chose prison.

Most critically, the one who had planned to kill soone on the Clavena Family's turf had been Cindy.

And Cindy had already been beaten to a pulp by Viktor.

As for the cris committed by the Rether Family—they amounted to nothing more than capturing Demi-humans and luring an Elf.

None of that had anything to do with the Clavena Family.

Jess's reasoning was airtight.

And as long as he could land himself in prison, he would be safe.

Jess wasn't afraid of prison at all.

With the Family's network of connections, he would be released in no ti.

What's more, even inside a cell, those prison wardens wouldn't dare do anything to him.

After all, he was Jess—the eldest young master of the Rether Family.

Those wardens would do nothing but fawn over him.

Having laid everything out so clearly, Jess felt quite confident.

Because if Viktor pushed any further, he would already be the one committing a cri.

The mont that perfect reasoning crystallized in his mind, Jess's trembling body began to settle.

The clarity slowly returned to his eyes.

"Oh? Is that so?"

Suddenly, Viktor's voice cut through.

As if faintly amused, the corners of his mouth curved upward slightly.

A Contract materialized from the air without warning and was flung down onto the floor in front of Jess.

Jess lowered his head and stared at the contents of the Contract, his expression completely blank.

All he could do was listen as Viktor's indifferent voice continued:

"That Elf you captured—she's my employee."

"Now, I'd say I have grounds, wouldn't you?"

The words had barely landed when Jess froze where he sat.

He felt his entire body go rigid.

As if a great black hand had seized his body and pinned it in place.

Before Jess's eyes, behind Viktor, a trendous, violent blaze erupted all at once.

The flas spread rapidly, swallowing the last intact and luxurious section of the Manor whole.

Thick black smoke billowed upward. Wild fire raged.

The flas consud the very last surviving stretch of wall, devouring it entirely as fuel for the inferno.

Surrounded by the roaring blaze, Viktor's expression remained as calm and unmoved as ever.

"Since you say Cindy was sent by your main household."

"Then have the people from your main household co in person."

In an instant, a black wind erupted without warning, sweeping up rubble and debris, sending dust churning into the air.

Like the night itself had beco a gale, raging beneath the blazing sun.

The rushing wind made it harder and harder for Jess to keep his eyes open.

All he could see was the blurring of everything before him.

Jess coughed repeatedly, squeezing his eyes shut and raising both arms to shield his face.

And then—the black wind gradually died.

Jess and Viktor, who had both been standing amid the raging flas monts before.

Vanished simultaneously.

Only Helnersen remained—the enormous Bear-man, standing in the heart of the roaring fire.

He picked up the Magic Cannon that had been lodged in the floor, and walked straight into the burning ruins.
