Chapter 155: Sothing's Wrong With the Little House Cat

In the end, the Rether Family yielded and agreed to pay compensation to the Clavena Family.

The matter quickly caused a stir throughout the noble circles, spreading like wildfire.

But aside from the families directly involved, not a single person knew the truth behind what had happened.

The Rether Family said nothing about the matter whatsoever—only quietly fulfilled the demands the Clavena Family had put forward.

The many people who had been waiting for further details to erge found themselves with absolutely nowhere to get them.

But soon, another piece of news broke and drew the public's attention elsewhere.

First Prince Aubeny, who had recently returned to the Royal Capital, announced to the public that he would be leading his army back south once more.

People began to speculate.

The Second Prince had already headed north ahead of schedule with his army to investigate matters concerning the Demon Invasion.

And now the First Prince was likewise returning south with his forces.

It stirred up no small amount of suspicion among the populace.

No matter how many rumors spread, no matter how tangled they beca, the Imperial family seed entirely unaffected—and simply moved forward with their actions.

And the origin of it all, had everything to do with a man who had found himself entangled in a series of events.

Viktor Clavena.

***

3 days later, a line of Carriages laden with heavy cargo slowly ca to a stop at the Clavena Family Manor.

Leah had been waiting at the gate well ahead of ti, arms folded across her chest, a smile on her face, already dispatching people to begin taking inventory of the goods the Carriages had brought.

She lifted the burlap covers—beneath them were rows upon rows of gleaming blades and polished armor.

The blades curved slightly at the guard, their slim, slender bodies almost unsettlingly thin—yet sohow all the more nacing for it.

Like a block of frozen ice carved by hand into a weapon. Sothing that looked as though a crimson fla ran through it from within.

The armor had been piled into a small mountain. Sharp spikes were set into both shoulders; magical creature bones had been fused into the double-layered iron walls beneath, making it look deceptively light—and yet it radiated a constant, intimidating aura.

And then there was the enormous sum of 500,000,000 Geo, already transferred directly into the Clavena Territory's accounts.

Leah had been a rchant for the better part of a decade.

Before today, she had never laid eyes on this much money.

The stream of numbers flowing through the account was enough to make her dizzy.

"The Rether Family really is loaded—sending over this much stuff without so much as a word."

Leah looked at the overflowing cargo, her heart brimming with delight.

The Rether Family's Servants delivering the goods heard Leah's remark and bit down hard on their teeth, not daring to make a sound, swallowing their frustration in silence.

Even Lady Cassana had personally capitulated to Viktor's family—what could underlings like them possibly say?

Suddenly, a swirling current of air rose from the ground.

Fluorescent blue sparks of lightning began drifting through the air. A thousand flickers of blue light descended gradually from the sky, flowing like liquid—swirling a few tis in the air before settling onto the ground.

Viktor's form gradually began to take on substance.

The air current tugged at his Coat with a whoosh, and he slowly materialized beside Leah.

Leah was startled. She was just about to say sothing—then noticed Viktor was focused intently on inspecting the equipnt on the Carriages.

She closed her mouth and chose not to interrupt him.

"Move all of this down to the basent."

"All of it?"

Viktor gave a light nod and turned to walk toward the Manor.

Leah was still a little puzzled, but then she heard Viktor's voice drifting back unhurriedly:

"Just so you know—that money might end up completely spent by ."

Leah blinked a few tis, taking in Viktor's words.

"Huh?"

Her mind crashed for a mont, and she couldn't help but shout after him:

"Viktor! What on earth are you going to spend 500,000,000 on?!"

"You'd better explain yourself!"

Viktor offered her no further explanation and kept walking, his figure gradually fading from view.

So ti later, the basent door was pushed open with a creak.

A cold, damp, musty sll drifted out to greet the air.

Xiangyilan walked slowly inside, her tail swaying gently behind her.

The single-wheeled carts trailing behind her moved in orderly fashion into the room under the guidance of magic.

The contents nearly filled the entire basent to capacity.

When it was all done, she turned to look at the man behind her and gave an elegant bow.

"Master, everything is ready."

Viktor reached out a hand and gave Xiangyilan's head a gentle rub.

Xiangyilan savored the feeling of that warm hand stroking her, her eyes narrowing involuntarily with contentnt.

Her ears pricked upward and began drifting inward toward each other; her tail swayed faster and faster.

"You've been making excellent progress."

"It's because Miss Heni teaches so well."

Viktor withdrew his hand. Feeling the warmth leave, Xiangyilan was left with a vague sense of emptiness.

"You can go rest now."

"Yes."

"Please call on at any ti, Master."

She gave a small bow, turned, and left the basent, disappearing into the dark corridor beyond.

Viktor watched her retreating figure—but Weija, perched on his shoulder, shot him a sidelong glance:

"What, feeling reluctant to let her go?"

"I've heard that their tongues have little barbs on them. Is that true?"

Viktor cast Weija a cold, flat look.

"Where did you hear that?"

"A storybook—the stuff written in those things is wildly stimulating, do you want to take a look together?"

Weija tittered to itself. Viktor didn't bother engaging with it any further and said plainly:

"Isn't it interesting to you—how far a Demi-human Mage can grow?"

"Tch, I only care about myself."

Weija was dismissive, turning its bird-head away.

Even though this was one of its Followers, Weija operated by a simple truth it had always upheld: collect Followers, owe them nothing in return.

As long as they brought it power, that was more than enough.

Viktor walked deeper into the basent, not even lifting his head.

"Stop reading those kinds of storybooks."

"Why?"

"They're bad for your brain."

Creak—

The heavy wooden door of the basent slowly swung shut in the darkness.

***

Heni was slumped over her writing desk, eyes cast low, sunlight spilling across her expressionless face, lending her a faintly wistful air.

She held a pen in hand, writing and sketching in a large notebook.

Her old notes may have been destroyed, but the knowledge she could recite from mory was sothing no one could take from her.

During quiet monts without much to do, she would often take up her pen and write it all back down again.

She was writing in the notebook when soone knocked at the door.

Knock, knock.

Heni was a little puzzled, but she pushed back her chair, stood up, and opened the door.

The mont it swung open, a little Cat-girl in a black-and-white Maidservant's uniform was standing before her.

The small fra paired with the sowhat oversized Maidservant outfit made for a slightly off-balance combination.

But even so, the gentle, warm aura emanating from her was sothing no uniform could cover up.

Xiangyilan placed both hands in front of her chest and gave Heni a deep bow:

"Miss Heni."

"Oh, it's Xiangyilan."

Seeing her, Heni was unsurprised.

The Professor had told her that Xiangyilan was a newly arrived Maidservant in the household with a very particular background—she was a Demi-human.

Heni was well aware of how unjustly Demi-humans were discriminated against in human society.

Though they were different from humans, she—being a kind-hearted person—had never agreed with the practice of pushing Demi-humans away.

When she learned that Xiangyilan had been captured, she felt only more tenderness toward her.

And so she kept a close, caring eye on her.

That was why she gave Xiangyilan lessons in magic every day.

It was because Heni had gone a long stretch of ti unable to beco a Mage herself, and had been on the receiving end of cold stares and ridicule from others at the Academy.

Every ti she looked at Xiangyilan, Heni was reminded of those unpleasant experiences.

She didn't want any of those bad experiences to repeat themselves in Xiangyilan's life.

So each lesson was delivered with a great deal of patience.

As for why it was Heni doing the teaching rather than Cocotte—who was plainly more accomplished in both magical knowledge and raw ability—even Heni knew how lazy that Elf was. Asking her to give lessons would be asking too much.

"Co in!"

Heni ushered Xiangyilan inside her room.

Inside, Heni sat on the edge of the bed and looked at Xiangyilan beside her.

"How's the Telekinesis magic going—how much have you worked on it since last ti?"

Xiangyilan said nothing in response. She simply tucked her hands behind her back, her slim tail swaying faintly.

On the writing desk across from her, a red flowerpot gradually began to glow with green light. It lifted off and floated up into the air.

It spun twice and then ca back down, settling precisely back in its original place on the desk.

Heni watched Xiangyilan's display of Telekinesis and couldn't help feeling genuinely surprised.

"What remarkable talent—you only started learning this spell yesterday."

"Telekinesis is one of the more commonly used 1st-Tier spells, but to already apply it at this level of proficiency—that's quite impressive."

Hearing Heni's praise, Xiangyilan's tail swayed back and forth happily.

"You flatter ."

"Hmm, I suppose I need to increase the difficulty for you a little."

Heni turned away and began flipping through the first few pages of her thick notebook, looking attentively to see if there were any more foundational spells she hadn't covered.

The black robe on her body swung wide as Heni shifted her body around.

Xiangyilan watched Heni wearing clothes that clearly didn't fit, and found herself a little puzzled.

"Um, Miss Heni, pardon for asking sothing rather forward."

"Why do you always wear such an oversized robe?"

Heni turned back around and looked down at her own clothing.

"Ah, this?"

She reached out and tugged at the wide collar, then said:

"The Professor gave this to . He said I should wear it at all tis, or it'll cause problems for others."

Xiangyilan tilted her head.

"Cause problems?"

Xiangyilan was puzzled.

"I don't quite understand, but—could you take it off and let see?"

"Well..."

Heni glanced to one side, feeling a little conflicted.

But when she saw the expectation in Xiangyilan's eyes, sothing in her resolve softened.

After all... they were both girls, so surely there wasn't any issue with it.

Thinking it over, Heni undid the buttons at her chest.

The black, oversized robe slowly ca off.

In an instant, Xiangyilan froze where she stood.

Beneath the robe was simply a perfectly ordinary set of clothes—a brown top and cream-colored wide-leg trousers, which looked surprisingly well-coordinated.

Although. Very large.

The curves were pronounced and well-proportioned. Even ordinary clothing couldn't contain it—it was all on full display.

And furthermore. Very large.

The amount of fair skin exposed wasn't excessive at all, yet sohow—as though so magic had been cast upon it—there was a certain luminous quality to it.

Very large.

An inexplicable sense of magnetism washed over Xiangyilan.

The little Cat-girl stared and stared, and her expression grew a little hazy, a faint flush spreading across her face.

The air seed to grow slightly warr. Her tail shot straight up, frozen in mid-air as though petrified.

Then, abruptly, a sharp and rather unusual cat cry burst from Xiangyilan's throat.

"Mrrrow~"

She snapped back to herself imdiately.

And Heni froze in place as well.

Their eyes t. Xiangyilan's face turned a shade of red so deep she resembled a perfectly ripened apple.

She leapt to her feet, threw open the door, and dashed down the stairs in a frantic rush, bolting away.

And Heni stood rooted to the spot, as though sothing had just dawned on her. The words slipped out before she could stop them:

"Was that just now..."

"...A female cat's mating call?"
