Chapter 176: The Princess's Special Training

The Magical Creature Rift—also known as the Magical Creature Abyss, or the Dungeon.

That last na was one the players had given it.

Strictly speaking, this was a void world distinct from reality.

The surroundings were vast and open, the paths intricate and tangled.

The nearby walls might cause a degree of unease in anyone who looked at them.

They undulated slowly, like a mass of writhing purple flesh, with thin mbrane-like tissue adhering between the masses.

Across those walls of flesh and blood, sothing seed to carve into them, shifting their forms.

Between that purple flesh, wisps of smoke seeped out continuously—followed by black-purple fissures, swaying without cease.

Looking up, an expanse of boundless purple hung like a vat of paint overturned across the vault of this space, churning endlessly.

Occasionally, Magical Creatures squeezed their bodies out slowly from those fissures.

Their forms still coated in mucus and mbrane, unable even to steady themselves on the writhing ground—

A Demi-human instantly drew the blade at her hip, stamped hard off the ground, and shot toward that newborn Magical Creature at blinding speed.

Shff!

A cold gleam flashed. In the blink of an eye, the Magical Creature's body froze in place.

Before it could even finish forming its shape, it was split in 2 and slid to the ground.

A tongue of fla followed close behind, enveloping the Magical Creature's frail body. Fierce fire burned wildly, reducing the creature to ash entirely.

Feeble. Far too feeble.

Compared to the well-equipped Demi-humans, those Magical Creatures were natural Cannon Fodder.

Viktor walked with both hands in his pockets, Auréliane following close at his side.

The deeper they ventured into this space, the more puzzled Auréliane beca.

She lifted her head and asked Viktor:

"Teacher, why did we co here for real-world experience?"

And on top of that, making such a grand show of bringing so many people along.

She couldn't quite understand it.

Because the creatures here were pitifully weak—they couldn't subject her to any real pressure whatsoever.

Still, this was her teacher's choice, and though Auréliane had her doubts, she would comply without question.

Viktor's voice reached Auréliane's ears.

"The place you are currently in is the Abyss's first 10 layers—the Pain Demon Darkfield."

The Magical Creature Abyss was divided into many layers, and every 10 layers, both the surrounding scenery and the creatures within would change.

The Pain Demon Darkfield—the first 10 layers—was the most basic and simplest stratum.

Only by venturing deep into the Rift, pushing further down through the layers, would one encounter increasingly powerful Magical Creatures.

Even the respawn rate would grow faster and faster.

So the fact that the creatures here were weak was perfectly normal.

Auréliane found this sowhat clarifying and did not continue to ask.

The group pressed forward, clearing out the miscellaneous Magical Creatures that appeared along the way.

Every single one of those creatures crumbled without resistance, swept away completely in just a few moves.

But before long, the group ca to a halt.

Because they had reached the end.

Ahead of them, what appeared to be a bottomless abyss surged and churned with purple. Within it, sothing like a pair of enormous eyes flickered ceaselessly, sizing up the unit that had arrived.

From within that purple abyss, a stone bridge gradually rose.

Beyond that bridge, a massive gate slowly erged from the walls of flesh and blood.

"Move forward, and you will reach the 11th layer."

Viktor said plainly.

"Beyond the 11th layer, you will encounter genuine challenges."

Of course, the creatures within the Rift had largely already been cleared by the Adventurer Guild mbers.

On top of that, with a 4th-Tier Mage like Cocotte accompanying them, nothing could go wrong with this unit.

Auréliane stared at that gate with so surprise, and then Viktor's voice reached her ear again.

"Do you know why I brought Elsa along?"

Hearing this, she couldn't help but look toward that solitary, cold-eyed Assassin among the Demi-humans.

She was clearly a powerful 4th-Tier Adventurer—and yet in this mont, she was like a tool, carrying out Viktor's orders without question.

Auréliane didn't dwell on it further, and shook her head with a slightly puzzled look.

"Because she was once an Adventurer herself."

Auréliane blinked, seemingly unable to quite grasp what Viktor ant.

But the instant his words fell, Viktor's figure gradually began to turn faintly transparent.

"By the way—from here on, this is your Trial."

Hearing this, Auréliane couldn't help but widen her eyes. She instinctively reached out, trying to grab hold of Viktor's lapels.

But her hand caught nothing but air.

Her teacher was right there in front of her, watching her.

She stood rooted to the spot, her heart pounding.

Unease surged through her, filling every corner of her mind.

"Tea... Teacher?"

His voice, carrying a tone like a piece of parting counsel, continued to reach Auréliane's ears.

"From here on, Elsa will guide the way for you, and Gwen will remain at your side to protect you."

"Lastly—trust in Cocotte. No one here is stronger than she is."

Viktor's form gradually dissolved into white particles.

Beginning slowly, he crumbled apart.

Under Auréliane's disbelieving gaze, his body seed to be scattered by the wind.

"Lead this unit down to the 30th layer and below."

"That is your lesson for this ti."

Only a few scattered particles remained, and with Viktor's final words, they dissipated before her.

Everyone stood in silence, watching as Viktor—Coat and all—vanished entirely.

From the sky above, a jet-black feather drifted down unhurriedly, landing in Auréliane's palm.

She lowered her head, gazing at that intact crow tail feather.

A dazed feeling ca over her, and her mood began to gradually sink.

Unease. Agitation. Dread.

All manner of emotions surged up with Viktor's departure.

Her teacher... had left her?

From nearby ca the dull clunk of armor pieces knocking together.

Gwen stepped to Auréliane's side and dropped to one knee.

"Your Highness."

At the sound of that voice, the vacant look in Auréliane's eyes returned with color.

She lowered her gaze, helplessness in her eyes, and stared blankly at Gwen.

"I... where is my teacher?"

In this mont, she seed to have beco a little princess left utterly without support, abandoned by the adult who had been at her side.

Gwen spoke with the utmost deference:

"Viktor had other matters to attend to. He inford us in advance."

"Please do not worry, Your Highness."

Auréliane lowered her head, and tightened her grip slightly on the black feather in her hand.

That black crow tail feather, clasped in her fingers, bent slightly out of shape from the pressure.

He inford you all in advance?

Then why... didn't he inform in advance?

Just because I'm his student?

Gwen raised her head, looking toward the silent Auréliane.

"...Your Highness?"

Her tone carried a note of worry and puzzlent.

"No—I'm fine."

Auréliane lifted her head again, and it was as though she had recovered her usual bright, warm smile.

Viktor's departure seed not to have affected her in any visible way.

"Thank you for telling all of this, Teacher Gwen."

"Let us continue. My lesson is not yet finished."

"Yes, Your Highness."

Gwen rose to her feet and returned to the very front of the unit, leading the Demi-humans as they fell in behind Auréliane.

The surrounding Demi-human guards also rallied themselves, adjusting the armor on their bodies and tightening their grip on the blades at their hips.

Following Gwen's lead, they stepped onto the stone bridge and continued deeper, heading toward the lower layers of the Magical Creature Rift beyond the gate.

At that sa ti, deep within the 10th layer.

Viktor's figure gradually solidified, steadying himself where he stood, gazing at the writhing cave before him.

Weija perched on Viktor's shoulder, covering her beak with one wing, yawning.

"I must say—you've abandoned that little girl back there. Won't she hold a grudge against you?"

Viktor paid her no mind and walked forward on his own into the depths of the cave.

When he reached a fork in the path, he didn't even need to think—he decisively took one of the branching routes.

As though he knew this place by heart, like coming ho.

At the sa ti, Viktor said calmly:

"She needs to beco more independent."

"Surely there are better ways to go about that?"

The Crow let out a mocking titter, leaving one to wonder what sort of colorful ntal scrap filled that ager brain of hers.

"Tsk, tsk. I'd rather not imagine what kind of imprisonnt ending might be waiting for you down the line."

"But then..."

The Crow raised its head, gazing through the wall toward the purple vault above.

That solitary eye glinted with a faint flicker of light, as though sensing sothing.

"Sending them away really was the right choice for you."

"You really have calculated everything, haven't you, Viktor."

Viktor's expression remained blank, and without bothering to receive Weija's praise, he simply continued walking forward in silence.

The path grew more complex, and the forks multiplied.

Yet Viktor's mind seed to hold a map within it, always choosing the most correct route.

At last, the path ca to an end.

Viktor walked to the terminus, quietly observing his surroundings.

On all sides stood exceptionally smooth walls—completely at odds with the writhing flesh from before, as though they had been specially constructed.

And set within those smooth walls was an extraordinarily enormous... door.

To call it a door was to understate it—it was more like a great disc.

Upon that disc was carved an image of a ferocious magical beast: a savage form, sharp fangs, rendered in vivid and terrifying detail before Viktor's eyes.

Weija's eyes widened slightly, unable to help but marvel at the imnse stone gate, the work of so extraordinary craft.

"A door? Fascinating—the labyrinth and layers before were already enough to astonish ."

"This extraordinary Magical Creature Abyss—which God's creation could it possibly be?"

As though sensing soone's arrival, that enormous stone gate began to turn slowly, gradually drawing back toward both sides.

The grinding creak creak of its motion echoed down the narrow passage and reached Viktor's ears.

BOOM!

The instant the gate swung fully open, a trendous sound exploded out.

A damp, icy odor seeped out from within, burrowing into both Viktor's and Weija's nostrils.

A musty sll clung to Weija's body, prompting her to reflexively extend a wing to cover her nose.

At last, the void beyond gradually revealed itself—like a great open maw, swallowing the 2 of them whole.

Viktor didn't hesitate. He extended one foot and stepped into the void.

"Before the main event begins."

"Let warm up first."

The words fell, and Viktor's body disappeared entirely into the void.

The gate slowly began to close again.

Once more, a heavy sound—sealing completely shut.

It was as though a voice resounded between the 2 halves of the great gate.

Boundlessly ethereal. Boundlessly weightless.
