Chapter 45: If You Don’t Kill Him, I Will Help You Kill Him!

Dewen Rether slowly opened his eyes.

As the darkness before him dissolved, he found himself looking up at a grey, overcast sky.

Much like his current situation—utterly devoid of light.

This was outside the Academy.

"You're awake."

A voice drifted from behind him. Dewen listened carefully—it did not belong to Viktor.

He jolted awake in an instant, thrashing his body, trying to escape from this desolate place.

Only to find that his body was still bound in place.

His sluggish physical responses had spared him from feeling the pain for the mont.

Dewen looked down. An unknown black-ink-like liquid was coiled all around him.

It was precisely this viscous substance that had him completely restrained here.

"How does it feel—to be bound?"

Heni's voice sounded from beside him, her expression neither joyful nor sorrowful.

Dewen looked up at her, his face a picture of shock.

"You……who the hell are you!?"

Heni: "……"

She casually conjured a Magic Formation. A mirror of water rose into the air, reflecting her face back at her as though it were a looking glass.

Mysterious markings like streaks of mud wound from her neck all the way up to her forehead, scattered across with intricate Runes.

Those markings and Runes swayed and shifted with an instability, as though they were alive.

She herself barely recognized her own appearance like this.

No wonder this disgusting fat pig didn't recognize her.

"Heh. Heh heh."

"Professor Dewen truly has a poor mory for faces—it's only natural he wouldn't rember soone as insignificant as ."

"Would you like to take a closer look?"

Heni removed her black-ink hood entirely. Her eyes t Dewen's directly, and in that gaze flashed countless images. Professor Dewen stood frozen, his mories suddenly sharpening into clarity.

Books burning. Malicious humiliation. A girl's voice, desperately suppressed, gradually going hoarse with weeping.

And the sight of his own ugly, triumphant figure walking away without a care.

"It's—it's you!? Viktor's wretched Teaching Assistant!"

"First you, then Viktor—are both of you determined to tornt to death before you're satisfied?"

Heni paid no mind to Dewen's words. His attitude alone had already led her to assu that Viktor and Dewen had been enemies long before this.

She had simply thought too little of the situation.

Now, the power over Dewen's life and death rested in her hands.

She could exact her revenge at any mont.

And yet Heni felt none of the elation one might expect from finally settling a great vendetta.

In the end, everything she had accomplished had been done through borrowed power.

The plan had encountered no resistance whatsoever in its execution—everything had proceeded with uncanny smoothness.

Seizing control of the entire Academy, then forcibly binding Dewen Rether within it.

It had advanced like a story unfolding exactly as written.

This made Heni suddenly realize just how terribly fragile Mages truly were.

Knights could still draw upon their formidable physical capabilities to respond to a crisis—but a Mage stripped of Magic

was utterly useless.

There were so many 3rd-Tier Mages in the Academy. Not a single one had been able to stop her from sealing it.

Even so.

"I still have to thank you, Professor Dewen. You made understand that staying weak only ans being bullied forever."

Heni didn't move an inch, her 2 hands concealed beneath her robes, not reaching out.

Yet the pitch-black ink surged suddenly along the path of her shadow and crawled up onto Dewen.

He was imdiately drenched in cold sweat from fright.

That thing gave him a deeply unsettling feeling.

"What—what is this thing?"

Dewen could only force a smile again, blurting out quickly:

"Miss Heni, perhaps we can reach an understanding between us."

"If you just let go….."

"There's no need for explanations, Professor Dewen."

Heni cut him off. The amber of her eyes was engulfed by a stunning wave of black—swallowing even her irises—until they resembled the eyes of an emotionless blade-wielder.

"Once I have settled the score between us, I will turn myself in."

The black Tentacles grew suddenly frenzied, thrashing against one another so violently they snapped apart—only to imdiately regenerate—then swept toward Professor Dewen in an overwhelming tide.

Dewen's eyes went wide. His heart leapt almost to his throat.

"I'm done for!"

"Heni!"

The Tentacles froze in an instant, halting in perfect unison re inches before Dewen's face.

Dewen gasped in great heaving breaths. The sensation of death had descended upon him, leaving him barely able to breathe.

A familiar voice rang out. Heni couldn't help but turn her head.

Erika stood before her, panting hard.

Heni's unfamiliar appearance gave Erika a fright.

"You……how did you end up looking like this?"

"It's a side effect of the Magic. Pay it no mind."

Heni didn't care in the least about how she looked right now—even knowing her appearance must be dreadful.

But Erika was puzzled.

"Heni, you can use Magic now?"

Heni didn't answer her. She turned her head away.

Seeing Dewen Rether bound by countless black ink Tentacles, Erika was struck with absolute astonishnt.

"Dewen Rether!? What is he doing here?"

"Wasn't Professor Viktor the one who had him tied up?"

Hearing Erika ntion Viktor's na, Heni froze. She turned back in disbelief, slowly drawing closer to Erika's side.

The markings across her face gradually faded. The intensity of her emotions even allowed her true appearance to surface.

"Erika, what did you just say? Who was the one who tied Dewen up?"

"Professor Viktor."

Heni stepped back several paces, unable to believe it.

"The Professor……the Professor is still alive?"

Erika: "?"

Now it was Erika's turn to stand frozen on the spot. She opened her mouth and said in confusion:

"Who told you Viktor was dead?"

Her gaze drifted instinctively to the trembling Professor Dewen.

"I never expected things to have turned out like this behind the scenes……"

"So now you……"

Erika looked at the unfamiliar figure Heni had beco, and a suspicion ford in her heart.

She knew that Demons would seize their opportunity when a person was at their most hollow—latching onto them, continuously feeding off their negative emotions as nourishnt to fuel their own growth.

She suddenly understood what Kavra had called the Filth.

Erika walked slowly to Heni's side, patted her shoulder, and said gently:

"It's alright, Heni."

"Let's go find Professor Viktor—he'll definitely have a way to drive whatever these things are off your body!"

Heni stepped back, shaking her head with a bitter smile.

"It's too late, Erika."

The smile returned to her face. Knowing that Viktor was alive seed to have restored so of her composure.

But alongside it, her expression now carried several shades of soone who had already made peace with death.

"I borrowed far too much power. A barrier capable of enveloping the entire Academy—even a Saint Mage like the Principal would need a great deal of ti to prepare for sothing like that."

"Do you think the Demon will simply let go?"

"It would sooner swallow whole right now."

Hearing Heni's account, Erika felt a chill run through her.

"So you knew all along—that it was the Demon who ca to you. Didn't you?"

Heni gave a nod.

"Once I've had my revenge, I'll turn myself in."

"Soone like , who no one cares about—dying in prison won't affect anyone."

She smiled with a serenity that suggested she had let go of everything. The Tentacles around her began swaying again in a manner that was almost frenzied.

Dewen Rether trembled from head to toe.

Had he known things would co to this, nothing in the world could have made him bully this little Teaching Assistant back then!

It was too late for regrets now.

Erika was silent for a mont. Then she shot a vicious glare at the immobilized Dewen Rether.

"What kind of revenge do you have in mind? Killing him?"

"I'm in full support."

Heni glanced at Erika with a puzzled look, then broke into a light laugh:

"Erika, why would you think that?"

"He burned 10 years' worth of knowledge I had accumulated—and destroyed my dream."

"In return, I will only make all of his knowledge disappear."

"For a Professor, shouldn't that be the most painful punishnt of all?"

Erika: "……"

Dewen Rether: "……"

The Tentacles ca to a stop as well. No one knew why.

Perhaps even the Demon had been left speechless by what she said.

Erika stepped back toward Heni without a trace of fear, seized her by the shoulders with both hands, and said gravely:

"Dewen Rether humiliated you in public. Didn't he?"

"Yes."

Heni gave a nod.

"He burned your life's work, had students deliberately harass you and play pranks on you to ruin your reputation, and then drove you out of the Academy!"

"That's all correct."

Erika grabbed Heni by both shoulders and began shaking her repeatedly.

"Get a grip, Heni! You made a deal with a Demon at the cost of your own life—and all you wanted was for this fat pig's knowledge to disappear!?"

"If that's all you were after, you might as well have just beaten him into a vegetable!"

Dewen: "……"

"The way you look right now is obviously that of a Villain! And since you're already playing the Villain, you had better do your job properly!"

"Wouldn't it be better to just kill him?"

"But……"

Heni began lowering her head in thought.

"Casually taking a person's life just like that—then what would make any different from the Demon?"

Dewen beside them nodded his pig head furiously—the only part of him he could move. Erika grabbed a fistful of the black ink off the ground and plastered it straight across his face.

As far as she was concerned, Dewen Rether's face was even more repulsive than any of those Tentacles.

"Help!"

Erika pressed her hands to her temples and let out a long, heavy sigh, deflating with frustration.

Heni's worldview was completely different from hers.

As a noble—and one of the highest-born at that—Erika had long since co to know the darker side of society.

But Heni was different. She had never been exposed to the scheming, backstabbing, and power plays that went on among the nobility.

The concept of life and death was still sothing distant and abstract to her.

And to casually decide the fate of another person's life—that, too, was sothing Heni found inconceivable.

Perhaps her thinking was still too simple. Since she herself had lost her work, she would simply make Dewen Rether lose all of his knowledge in turn—and in doing so, deliver an equivalent punishnt.

Heni was still far too naive!

Naïve to the absolute extre!

"Fine! If you won't kill him—I'll do it for you!"

"Once he's dead, co back to the Professor's side with —he'll definitely find a way to keep you alive!"

With that, a terrifying blaze of raging flas instantly coalesced in Erika's hand.

【2nd-Tier Magic: Fla Bolt】!

Before Heni could even reach out to stop her, the dense fireball ca hurtling straight at Professor Dewen's face.

It was re inches from making contact when—

Fwip fwip fwip~!

3 silver-white flying blades shot out of nowhere, scattering the flas and severing the Magic, before clattering to the ground one after another.

Erika froze in place, staring at the remnants of her dispersed Magic, then snapped her head around.

A beautiful woman with a sweep of purple hair looked at the 2 of them with a warm smile.

She twirled several silver throwing knives in her hand and gave them a little wave.

"You 2 adorable little ladies."

"Why don't you tell this big sister what ga you're playing?"
