Shang Ruyi looked up at him again.

In the night, her eyes were like the surface of a lake under the moonlight, originally able to remain calm and undisturbed. Yet at this mont, a stone was thrown in, not only breaking the calm she believed herself to possess but causing ripples that were flickering and swaying, utterly disordered.

Looking at her gaze, Yu Wenye’s eyes deepened.

The two of them faced each other in silence, yet amidst the quiet, there seed to be a kind of indescribable ambiguous sentint that made one almost irresistibly subrged, when a night breeze suddenly passed through.

The slight chill brought Shang Ruyi back to clarity in an instant.

What... was she thinking?

Just by thinking this, she imdiately beca clearer. When she looked up at Yu Wenye again, the flicker and agitation in her eyes had disappeared, though they were forcibly suppressed. But as Yu Wenye stared into those suddenly cold eyes, for a mont, even his breath stopped.

Clearly, nothing had happened, yet it seed as though much had occurred.

Shang Ruyi lowered her head sowhat flustered, softly saying, "It’s getting late."

The underlying aning was that it was ti to rest.

"..."

Yu Wenye looked at her for a mont, as if he sighed lightly, but didn’t say much more, simply turning away and walking forward silently, while Shang Ruyi breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly followed in his footsteps.

In a short while, they entered a courtyard.

This was a courtyard located in the northeast corner of the Duke Mansion, spacious yet without any flowers or trees. The bluestone slabs on the ground also had several cracks, which Shang Ruyi instantly knew were caused by his martial practice here in the past, so it was no wonder the courtyard seed so empty.

However, speaking of it, he likely hadn’t returned here for many years, yet from inside to outside, the place was filled with his presence.

Yu Wenye stepped forward and pushed open the door.

Imdiately, another night breeze blew past the two from behind, pouring into this sowhat barren room.

Shang Ruyi widened her eyes in surprise, looking at the room before her. In a daze, it felt like she had returned to the Yuwen Mansion in Taiyuan, or like when she first set foot in the Duke Mansion in Eastern Capital Luoyang, this room was almost identical to his previous residence, only larger.

But being larger also ant it was emptier; there was still scant furnishings, like nearly all ordinary rooms, a massive wooden screen dividing the room into two parts—an outer reception area, where two or three low tables, a few rugs, and a bronze incense burner were placed beside the main seat; while following Yu Wenye’s footsteps inward, there was only a wide bedstead in the inner room, and near the window, a desk for reading and writing letters.

Beyond that, there was nothing.

Shang Ruyi looked again and again, unable to hide her surprise, saying, "This place, and the Taiyuan Mansion, and back in Eastern Capital, your room is exactly the sa."

Yu Wenye looked at her, smiling, and said, "I told you long ago."

Shang Ruyi was taken aback, turning her head to look at him.

Yu Wenye said, "At that ti, I said I would bring you to Daxing City to see my room, and now you’ve seen it, I didn’t deceive you."

"..."

Shang Ruyi felt sowhat dazed.

Indeed, at that ti when they first arrived in Eastern Capital, when they first entered his room, he had indeed said that—actually, she also rembered.

She just didn’t expect, even he himself, still rembered.

At this mont, footsteps sounded outside, and Tushere’s voice drifted into the room with the night wind—

"So, that Wo Xue is actually a big villain!"

"She really knows how to pretend, I thought she was an ignorant little girl, but she turned out to be so capable of hiding, truly one can know soone’s face but not their heart."

"If it wasn’t for her this ti, our Miss wouldn’t have suffered so much."

Shang Ruyi turned back, vaguely seeing her and Chang Wan carrying packages and walking in. She was chirping all the way, and although Chang Wan said nothing, she listened earnestly, only speaking at the end, "So it was her."

"Right,"

Tushere said, "I used to think you weren’t a good person, but it turns out she was the one who wasn’t good. Chang Wan, I won’t misjudge you again."

Chang Wan glanced at her, chuckled, and said, "Oh."

Standing in the room, Shang Ruyi nearly laughed, but felt a bit ashad, thinking her maid was so silly that she herself didn’t seem smart either.

Indeed, Yu Wenye’s shoulder beside her twitched slightly, as if he was laughing.
