Now reading: Chapter 196 - 19: Yukon River Valley from Wilderness Survival with Druid System, a Fantasy novel by The bright moon crossing the mountain.

The beaver is a treasure all over.

This saying is not without reason.

After Hua Yun peeled off the beaver skin, the fat underneath made Chen Wen stare.

This creature’s fat layer is really thick!

"It’s really hard to imagine, this thing has so much subcutaneous fat, no wonder it looks so round."

Chen Wen said, tossing the entrails of the pike to the side.

The Golden Eagle glanced at the innards.

In the past, it would have definitely gone for it.

But now with mutton available, the Golden Eagle didn’t even look at it.

It sees clearly that as long as it follows Chen Wen, at is never lacking!

Hua Yun collected the beaver’s fat and placed it in his enal bowl: "This fat can be used to make anti-freeze cream. Can you handle the sll?"

"Hey, for us survivalists, who cares about that?"

Chen Wen waved it off, unconcerned.

After collecting the fat, Hua Yun also cleaned out the beaver’s entrails.

Once everything was packed up, the two n and one eagle headed toward the Yukon River.

...

By noon.

The two officially crossed the tributary and reached the main channel of the Yukon River.

"Explore the surroundings and find a place to build a shelter."

As soon as they reached the location, Hua Yun started assigning tasks.

Chen Wen, too, was raring to go, planning to forage for food in this relatively rich area and gather keywords.

After parting ways with Hua Yun, Chen Wen dropped all pretense.

He had the Golden Eagle act as his eyes, surveying from above to locate living creatures.

anwhile, Chen Wen plunged into the bushes, beginning his search for edible plants.

Hua Yun, on his side, carried a bow and arrow, continually searching for animal paths.

Trying to find a safe place.

About five minutes later.

Chen Wen discovered edible plants in a dense forest.

"This should be bearberry, right?"

Looking at the sowhat withered red berries in front of him, Chen Wen stopped.

He recalled information about bearberries and compared it with the plant before him.

The clusters of bearberry plants were turning a bronzy-purple color, which seed just right.

High above.

Perhaps noticing Chen Wen pausing, the Golden Eagle slowly descended.

Chen Wen didn’t have ti to deal with the Golden Eagle just yet.

He carefully picked these withered red berries and slled them.

They slled a bit like freshly trimd evergreen shrubs.

Additionally, they had a slight sour scent.

Chen Wen split open a bearberry, cautiously dabbed it with his tongue.

It tasted like regular berries and even had a hint of sweetness.

"Hmm, not bad, not bad, this should be bearberry."

Bearberry is a common berry in the areas near the Arctic Circle in North Arica.

Whether in mountains or plains, you can see their traces.

Edible, though most people choose to process bearberries for greater economic value.

This indirectly indicates that they’re not very tasty.

After eating a bearberry, the system responded.

[Plunder nature’s creation—bearberry!]

[Plundering... Plundering complete!]

[Please choose or forfeit within one minute! Failure to choose will result in automatic selection of the first entry!]

The entries for bearberry were quite standard, and Chen Wen chose [Strong adaptability].

When Chen Wen opened his eyes, the Golden Eagle imdiately said, "Hey, human, I just discovered a lot of good stuff!"

A lot of good stuff?

Chen Wen’s eyes lit up: "What did you find?"

"Heh, over there, about a day’s walk for you, there’s a vast flat land with many big guys!"

The Golden Eagle scratched the ground with its claws.

Chen Wen looked at the pattern the Golden Eagle traced and vaguely guessed that the large creatures it ntioned should be deer.

"Are they deer?"

Recalling the types of deer distributed in the Yukon Basin: "In this area, it should be mostly moose, with so North Arican caribou, white-tailed deer, and possibly black-tailed deer."

Oh boy, if it’s a herd of deer, then food supplies won’t be a problem!

Chen Wen was suddenly excited.

He instantly said: "If it’s about a day’s march, let’s walk a bit more today. We’ll set up camp by the deer herd tomorrow, and we can definitely hunt a lot!"

Having decided, Chen Wen went back imdiately.

After a brief discussion, Hua Yun agreed to Chen Wen’s plan.

The two didn’t linger, pushing forward to the flat land described by the Golden Eagle.

The following morning.

With continuous effort from Hua Yun and Chen Wen, they reached the flat land ntioned by the Golden Eagle.

This was a vast river valley floodplain.

The Yukon River surged along its course, carving nurous grooves between the mountains.

The upstream sedints it carried deposited between the mountains, forming a fertile and wet flat terrain.

"This place is definitely an animal gathering spot!"

At the sight of this plain, Hua Yun’s hunting instincts kicked in.

Chen Wen’s eyes shone even brighter.

This area is indeed abundant. As they traveled, the density of animal droppings they saw was incredibly high!

The Golden Eagle was squealing with excitent.

"But this place is still dangerous."

Once Chen Wen cald down, he signaled Hua Yun to look at the tracks ahead.

"Bear print, this big, it’s probably not an Arican black bear but a North Arican grizzly."

Seeing the bear print sobered Hua Yun up imdiately.

The animals capable of threatening their lives here are Arican black bears, North Arican grizzlies, and packs of gray wolves!

No matter which of these three they encounter, both of them face the risk of injury.

And North Arican grizzlies and gray wolf packs are entirely capable of killing the two.

But there’s also good news.

In a little while longer, North Arican grizzlies, and Arican black bears will enter hibernation.

By then, as long as they don’t encounter a pack of gray wolves, Chen Wen feels there’s hardly anything that can threaten them.

"Let’s set up camp, get it right, and have sothing hot to eat. I’ll cook tonight."

Chen Wen reminded Hua Yun.

The two didn’t camp directly in the valley but chose instead to camp beneath an exposed rock outcrop.

"The rock can absorb the heat from a campfire and reflect it back when the fire dies down, providing warmth."

Chen Wen explained his choice for the campfire: "Plus, if danger arises, we can use the fire and rock to our advantage."

Hua Yun fully supported Chen Wen’s perspective.

The two chopped wood and built a relatively sturdy wooden shelter.

Their cooperative efficiency was indeed higher than working alone.

Before night fell, the shelter was built, and the campfire was lit.

Chen Wen sat in front of the fire, beginning to cook.

He took out a pot, fetching water from the nearby Yukon River, preparing to cook so pike soup.

While fetching water, Chen Wen observed the wildlife in this valley becoming active.

A herd of moose leisurely erged from the forest, crossed the valley, and reached the riverbank for a drink.

Following the gruff calls of deer, a group of North Arican caribou also arrived at the river’s edge.

Chen Wen didn’t linger too long to observe the animals.

Because as a dark silhouette erged from the forest, Chen Wen realized the "boss" of this area had arrived.

A very large bear lumbered out from the distant forest, ambled to the riverbank, and started drinking.
