Emperor Kalos looked a bit skeptical when he heard this, but he soon resigned himself.
It was already too late to go back since the plan had been put into action, so the only thing that he could do was go with this until the end.
After all, he knew that Lin Fan was right.
This was the only way that he would be able to build any kind of power without the interference of the six factions.
While his options were a bit limited, at least he had his independence now.
But of course, there was still a large obstacle that they had to deal with.
"Your majesty, are you alright?"
This voice ca with a knock on the door.
It was a familiar voice to both Emperor Kalos and Lin Fan. After all, this was one of the mbers of the royal guards.
But it wasn't just any normal guard, it was one of the ones that had been trusted to be in charge by one of the regint commanders. That ant that this royal guard could be considered one of the strongest that was left in the capital.
At the very least, it didn't seem like he suspected that the barrier around the capital was the result of sothing that Emperor Kalos did. In fact, the fact that he had co here first ant that there was no suspicion cast on Emperor Kalos at all.
Instead of actually trying to find where this barrier ca from, this royal guard was planning on securing Emperor Kalos.
Emperor Kalos was an important piece to the six factions, so it was necessary for them to make sure that he was safe. Though in a pinch, they certainly would give him up if it ant that they could save their lives.
However, while they were safe, they would try to increase their standing even if there was this barrier around the city.
It was no wonder that they had been able to reach their current positions.
They knew what they had to do to climb the social ladders.
Neither Emperor Kalos or Lin Fan said anything in response to this, but it didn't seem to matter. It seed that they weren't planning on waiting in the first place as a clicking sound ca from the door.
The door had been locked from the inside, but that clicking sound ant that soone had unlocked it.
It seed that the royal guards never planned on giving Emperor Kalos any privacy as they had a key to his room. They could co into his room at any ti that they wanted with this key.
To them, Emperor Kalos was nothing more than a hostage that they could treat however they wanted.
Once the door opened, there wasn't just a single royal guard that ca in.
There was a large group of royal guards that ca in at the sa ti.
All of these royal guards that charged in were ones that they recognized since they were the ones that had been left in charge by the regint commanders. It wasn't just the one that spoke, it was all of them that suddenly ca in.
Once they ca in, the one that spoke before asked, "Your majesty, are you alright? We're here to make sure that you're safe and to bring you away from this place."
Then after saying this, the royal guards all took a step forward as if they were competing with each other. They were looking at Emperor Kalos as if he was a piece of at that they would be splitting with each other, rather than an actual person. Let alone soone who was supposed to be the 'ruler' of this Kalos Empire.
Emperor Kalos knitted his brows when he saw this.
There was a trace of indignation that appeared in his eyes as well. After all, even if he had resigned himself to his fate, it didn't an that he didn't have the pride that he once had.
So he looked over at Lin Fan with a strange look before turning to say to the royal guards, "Protect ? You're just here to secure for your own use and you're trying to make it seem that you're loyal. It's hard to believe that dogs like you would actually think that you could do anything to ."
The royal guards couldn't help knitting their brows when they heard this. At the sa ti, there were annoyed looks that appeared in their eyes as well as they didn't like the way that Emperor Kalos talked to them.
In fact, there was disdain with this annoyance, as if they looked down on Emperor Kalos.
After all, in their eyes, he was nothing more than a puppet for the six factions.
Even if they were royal guards, they thought that they were far better than this emperor who had long lost his throne.
Still, they forced themselves to remain calm as the sa person as before said, "Your majesty, these words are a bit…"
Before he could finish, Emperor Kalos suddenly said, "I was the one that created the barrier, so what are you going to do about it?"
Surprised and confused looks appeared on the faces of the royal guards, but it didn't seem like they were planning on taking what Emperor Kalos said seriously.
"Your majesty, this isn't the ti to joke about sothing like this. We need to move you right now to ensure your safety." The royal guards just shrugged off what Emperor Kalos said and began moving forward while looking at each other with wary looks. It was clear that they wanted to secure Emperor Kalos for themselves.
However…
"Who said that it's a joke? This is my declaration of independence from the six factions and I will be taking Glory City along with the surrounding area as my territory. As this is my territory and you are my royal guards, it's only natural that you should serve ." Emperor Kalos said with a snort filled with arrogance.
He was acting like an emperor should for once.
But that just made the royal knights very displeased.
They realized that Emperor Kalos wasn't joking, he was actually being serious about all of this. And if that was the case, then there was no doubt that they would be punished for allowing him to do sothing like this while he was under their watch.
In that case, the only thing that they could do now was…
"Emperor Kalos, I say this with respect, but you should stop what you're doing now. If you don't, we'll be forced to make a move and take you down. We have no obligation to show rcy to a traitor."
Even with this threat aid at him, Emperor Kalos didn't show a trace of fear towards them.
Seeing this, the royal guards acted like they had no other choice as they started moving towards him once more. But this ti, they pulled out their weapons as if they were prepared to harm him.
Even if he was the emperor, that didn't an that they had to hold back.
After all, he was admitting to betraying the six factions that had allowed him to live and keep this throne.
The one person that they ignored the entire ti was Lin Fan who had been standing beside Emperor Kalos' side. They had been completely focused on Emperor Kalos and taking him down that they completely forgot that Lin Fan was there.
But this ti, Lin Fan had to act.
Emperor Kalos had even looked at him as if he was telling him that it was his turn now.
Lin Fan could tell that Emperor Kalos had done this on purpose. He had provoked them into acting so he could see what Lin Fan planned to do.
After all, there was no way that Lin Fan wouldn't have planned anything if he had planned sothing as elaborate as the barrier outside.
When Lin Fan stepped forward to stand in front of Emperor Kalos, the other royal guards acted like they were seeing him for the first ti. They didn't say anything as they narrowed their eyes to look at Lin Fan.
What they were doing was trying to use their gazes to pressure him so that he would move out of the way and let them take down Emperor Kalos.
Only Lin Fan matched their gazes without a single trace of fear in his eyes, just like Emperor Kalos had done.
Once they saw this, the royal guards knew that there was sothing off about him.
"Rich, move out of the way. If you don't, you should know what we'll think about you."
Since they couldn't pressure him with their gazes alone, they had no choice but to use their words now. They hoped that with these words, he would learn his lesson and back down.
But still, Lin Fan just stood there firmly in front of Emperor Kalos.
In the end, they said with snorts, "It seems that you were a rat the entire ti. Do you really think that it's the best choice to side with an emperor who has no control over his own country? It's clear that you'll die a fool's death for this choice."
There was no sympathy in their voices at all.
There was even what seed to be a bit of joy as if they were happy to see that Lin Fan made this choice.
He was the top examinee, so there was no doubt that he would have a bright future with the six factions. But if he lost that future because of this, then that would an that they would have more chances.
So they were fine seeing him like this.
Only Lin Fan just calmly said, "Calm down and be silent."
