WILOW-Ch.406: Sending Them Away

Red Keep, King's Landing

POV Jamie Lannister

Jamie looked at the burning Kingswood in the distance and let out a tired sigh.

He put the letter back down on the table and wondered if things would have gone differently if he were with his father instead of in King's Landing.

He sohow doubted it.

From the new reports his spies brought him. Ser Davon and the whole center camp around him went up in smoke when the wyverns dropped literal wildfire caches on top of them.

He was a better swordsman than Ser Davon, but he would have t a similar fate if he were in that tent.

2 months.

It's been two months since Lord Bolton joined the war effort, and House Lannister now lies in ruins.

All its gold was stolen.

All its battle commanders and veteran officers were dead.

All its family mbers living in Casterly Rock were taken hostage.

And now… his father and the last Lannister army were gone as well.

Now it was only he and his sister, if the reports were correct, who were currently sleeping with one of her hired rcenaries.

This thought would have made him sick a few months ago. Now… now he just felt numb to it all.

He looked into the distance and wondered how Tyrion was doing right now.

What would his brother say if he saw him in a situation like this?

He looked at the letter once again and chuckled to himself.

King Aegon Targaryen. The boy whom everyone thought was Lord Stark's bastard.

It was hilarious how his son, King Joffrey's crown, hung in the air because of him being a bastard, and now a once-bastard was supported by three kingdoms as the King.

And Rhaegar Targaryen's unknown child, who transford from a bastard to a king overnight, wasn't the only problem.

King Eddard Stark. The new King of the North, who had declared independence, was another problem for them.

Eddard Stark was no ordinary man. He was a close friend and brother of the late King Robert Baratheon, and one of the key figures who helped him ascend the throne.

For such a man to now reject Joffrey's rule and declare him a bastard had a profound impact on Westeros.

And Emperor Doric Bolton.

The man who sought to bring a new order to Westeros, and in doing so, single-handedly annihilated the armies of the Westerlands with his own army, ultimately becoming a legend himself.

The man who controlled the agenda and flow of information in Westeros through his army of direwolves, wyverns, giants, and skinchangers, which struck fear into every army in the Westerlands.

And quite possibly the only man since Aegon the Conqueror who could bring Westeros to its knees.

And he's most likely the man who will bring an end to Joffrey's reign. Directly or indirectly.

He had talked with Joffrey about the armies that were about to co to their doorsteps.

Asked the boy to abdicate the throne and save his life and rule Casterly Rock instead of dying for the Iron Throne.

Joffrey called him a pathetic coward and took the White Cloak from him, giving the Cloak instead to one of the rcenaries that his sister now opened her legs for.

When he asked Cersei to leave with him, she looked at him as if he were the lowest creature in the world. And he knew then that she wouldn't listen.

A knock on the door brought him out of his musings.

He opened the door and found one of his more trustworthy n standing outside. Well… as trustworthy as one can be in King's Landing.

"The boats are ready, Ser Jamie." The guard said, and he nodded.

"Let's go then."

A few corridors later, he ca across the sight of a sleepy Tomn and a worried-looking Myrcella waiting in the Kitchens.

Tomn was ten years old at the ti and couldn't fully grasp the seriousness of what was happening around him.

But Myrcella was fifteen, soon to be sixteen, and she understood that the situation was difficult for them.

If this war hadn't broken out, perhaps they would now be talking to suitable suitors for Myrcella's marriage.

But now...

"Uncle Jamie. What is going on?" Myrcella asked, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

He knelt in front of her and smiled, "King Stannis is coming to attack the city with his army. And I'm not sure if we'll be able to hold for long."

Myrcella frowned. "That… what about grandfather?" she asked.

"Grandfather won't be able to co." He said, "Do you rember your uncle Tyrion?"

"Of course I do. I've not seen him for a long ti, though."

"Yeah… well… your uncle Tyrion has settled down in the North with his wife." He said, "I'm sending you and Tomn to your uncle. He'll take care of you." At least he hoped Tyrion would.

He did not doubt that Tyrion hated him for his part in what happened to Tysha. But he also knew that Tyrion wouldn't bla his children for their father's mistake.

"What about you, Uncle Jamie?" she asked.

He almost felt like crying. Instead, he smiled.

"I must remain here and look after my sister and your older brother." He replied.

Myrcella pursed her lips, hesitated for a mont, but then spoke, "Won't you co with us, Uncle? Please…"

He almost gave in. But he knew that he could not show his face to Tyrion.

And well… he was also pretty tired of this life.

Death in a battle seed like a far better alternative to anything else at this point.

He smiled once again and put a hand on Myrcella's shoulder. "Your Uncle Tyrion will keep you safe. I promise."

"My lord, we must hurry before anyone sees us." One of his guards said, and he glared at the man before nodding.

Then he looked at Myrcella and Tomn and pulled them into a tight hug.

He couldn't stop the tears from leaking out this ti.

He separated from them and cupped both their cheeks.

"Take care of each other." He said, then nodded to their guards and maids, who picked them up and led them into the secret tunnel.

"Uncle Jamie…" Myrcella cried out one last ti before the secret tunnel closed, and he was left all alone in the Kitchens.

He let out a sigh and started walking toward his room.

He had a siege to prepare for.

To protect his son, who hated him, and his sister, who despised him.
