Below, a massive space came into view, with various sizes of gears continuously in motion; some as large as several people, while others were no bigger than a palm.
"What... what kind of place is this?"
"Why is there such an area beneath the city? Moreover, it’s still operating? How is that even possible?" Haleem was stunned.
He had explored two ancient Goblin Empire city ruins before; pared to ancient human cities, there were more mechanical devices, yet never had he seen a sight like this.
"Maybe it’s due to those eerie goblin corpses?" Suggested Sword Saint Terrio, less shocked than Haleem.
"Impossible, I mean the energy source. Such numerous gears need energy, far surpassing the previous mechanical octopus’s artificial energy source."
"Not necessarily, if ancient goblins could make that kind of energy source, how do you know they couldn’t produce a larger one?" Terrio said offhandedly.
"This..." Sword Saint Terrio’s words left Haleem speechless.
Yet Rein felt Haleem’s speculation made sense.
Such a grand mechanical setup, relying on an energy source might operate temporarily, but sustaining for thousands of years, what, like nuclear fusion?
Moreover, when we arrived, the city’s surroundings were lava. Could it be...
Rein pondered, vaguely deducing some guesses.
"I think we should go down there." At that moment, Rein’s ears twitched, and he immediately spoke.
He had heard metallic clanking noises around them.

Only, these goblin corpses wore a gray uniform, different from the ones the mechanical land bird operators wore above, akin to some kind of worker’s outfit.
Most importantly, Rein realized the gear noises he heard earlier likely originated from here.
"Seems Lord Rein’s earlier judgment was correct, the upper layer’s ground can indeed move."
Hernandez glanced upward at the massive tray devices overhead, at certain times, the gears would spin rapidly, shifting a section above.
"It’s bizarre that all the goblins in this ruin turned into undead yet still function. Could some undead divine entity invade this ancient Goblin Empire, causing this phenomenon?" Haleem murmured.
"Possible." Hernandez nodded in agreement.
Though Rein didn’t speak, he somewhat concurred with Haleem’s point.
For, at least from current revealed signs, such occurrence was viable.
Yet even with some doubts remaining.
If a Divine invasion happened, it wouldn’t easily annihilate and transform a prosperous Goblin Empire into an undead realm as Divine beings need faith, and only during expansion or eliminating opposition would they eradicate enemies.
Judging from major cults, and Ferdinand Forest’s Void Mother Tree incident, this is evident.
Could it be a Fifth Level Full Moon Wizard from the undead discipline?
Only such a level of might can convert all goblins in such a vast city into corpses at once, right?
But it still doesn’t add up!
The eerie whispering, most likely should be some Evil God or its follower’s whispering.
If it were a Full Moon Wizard, they wouldn’t leave this kind of whisper.
"Huh? Besides the gear sounds, upon entering here, the unknown eerie whispering sharply intensified." Rein furrowed his brow, pondering.
He had just listened closely to his surroundings and suddenly noticed the unknown female whispering grew noticeably stronger.
