Schultz took it with a puzzled look, his eyes rapidly scanning the contents on the paper.
He displayed genuine shock and tension.
"Where did this co from?!" His tone beca extrely serious, "Internal! You have a mole inside!"
These words were like a giant stone thrown into a calm lake. Although everyone had already suspected it, Schultz's straightforward revelation made everyone's hearts sink, and the atmosphere beca even more tense.
"Director Schultz!"
Li Wenbin stepped forward, his voice not loud, looking firmly at Schultz, "My team mbers are rigorously selected elites. They ca with from Xiangjiang to here. I trust each of their professional ethics and high moral standards! Without any evidence, I do not want to hear any baseless speculations!"
His defense caused so team mbers behind him to reveal a faint touch in their eyes.
The leader of the action team, Chen Zilong, looked a bit distressed and quickly lowered his head.
Schultz was montarily taken aback by Li Wenbin's firm attitude. Eventually, the muscles on his face relaxed slightly, and he slowly nodded, his tone easing, "Li, I understand your feelings and trust you and your team. Such an incident is hard for anyone to accept. I will imdiately order to strengthen the protection of your task force's residence and all mbers' personal safety, raising it to the highest level."
He paused, his gaze once again sweeping over the people, with a formulaic concern, "Everyone, please be extra careful and try to minimize unnecessary outings during this period."
After speaking, he seed to rember sothing, turned to Li Wenbin, and lowered his voice a bit, "Li, there's sothing I need to discuss with you alone." He gestured towards the small compartnt in the office.
Li Wenbin nodded, instructed the team mbers, "Continue working, stay alert," and then followed Schultz into the small room used for temporary confidential conversations.
The door closed gently, shutting out the view and sounds from outside. The small room contained only a table and two chairs.
Schultz took a cigarette box from his pocket, lit one for himself, and then offered one to Li Wenbin.
Li Wenbin hesitated for a mont at the cigarette offered to him but eventually took it, lit it with the lighter Schultz handed over, and took a deep puff. The spicy smoke filled his lungs, seemingly relieving so of the tension.
"Ye Jinghua from Canada," Schultz exhaled a smoke ring, lowering his voice further, "has escaped."
"What?!" Li Wenbin's fingers, holding the cigarette, froze. He jerked his head up, his eyes instantly bloodshot, "When did this happen? How did he escape? What are the Canadian police doing?!"
"The specifics are still unclear, and the source of the information is sowhat disreputable." A trace of embarrassnt and helplessness appeared on Schultz's face, "It ca from a Canadian Deputy Defense Minister who inadvertently let it slip while chatting with his mistress on the pillow. The mistress inadvertently leaked it. We just received this information through special channels."
"Damn it! A complete amateur group! A bunch of worthless people!"
Li Wenbin could no longer hold back, cursed in a low voice, and punched the wall beside him, making a dull sound. He felt a fiery rage burning in his chest. Ma Guoming's sacrifice, the investigation making no progress, the internal bounty, and now the main target has escaped... all of this was pushing him to the brink of an outburst.
Schultz waited for him to finish cursing, allowing his emotions to slightly calm before continuing, "Li, calm down. Getting angry won't solve the problem. I'm telling you this information to keep you inford. Ye Jinghua's escape ans that our opponent is more cunning than we thought and possibly more powerful."
He looked aningfully at Li Wenbin, "Considering the bounty order outside just now, I have reason to believe that information about your Xiangjiang special case team's organizational structure has also been deliberately leaked. This is no longer just a simple leak; soone is trying to destroy you."
Li Wenbin smoked in silence, the smoke swirling around them, his expression shifting unpredictably.
Schultz observed his expression, leaning slightly forward, "Li, I will formally request from higher-ups, including your Xiangjiang headquarters, to involve the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the investigation. If possible, I even think it's necessary to conduct a thorough background check and lie detector test on all your task force mbers."
"Lie detector?" Li Wenbin frowned deeply at these words, showing obvious resistance, "Director Schultz, this will affect the morale! My team mbers are fighting desperately, and now subjecting them to lie detector tests is like stabbing them in the back! This is a form of mistrust!"
"Li!" Schultz's tone grew firr, "You don't want to have a ticking ti bomb inside, do you? Drug enforcent is a life-risking job! Any negligence could cost lives!"
He stared into Li Wenbin's eyes, speaking word by word, "The lie detector is not to suspect anyone but to eliminate suspicion, to prove innocence, so that those truly clean can work with peace of mind, and to force that rat hiding in the dark into the open! This is to protect the loyal majority and is a necessary price to advance the case!"
Li Wenbin opened his mouth, took a deep breath, and firmly extinguished the remaining cigarette in the ashtray. Smoke slowly exhaled through his nose.
Schultz looked at him, knowing his words had an effect. He patted Li Wenbin's shoulder, his tone softening, "I will take charge of arranging this matter and conduct it as soon as possible. In the anti, stabilize your team, Li. Our enemies are more sinister than we can imagine."
After speaking, Schultz said no more, turned to open the door of the small compartnt, and walked out.
At the door, he paused and said softly, "Victory will always belong to us, we have defeated so many."
"Glory belongs to xico! To all mankind!"
