At this mont, the convoy had already entered the Morelia City district.

The sirens wailed and the police cars ahead cleared the road, giving way to the convoy. Citizens on both sides of the street stopped to watch curiously.

However, unexpected events always occur at tis like these.

Just as the convoy was about to pass through a Crossroads, suddenly, a battered white sedan raced out from a nearby alley!

It didn't crash into the core van or Hernandez's car but instead, in a near-suicidal move, swerved right in front of the leading police car!

"Screeeech——!!!"

The piercing sound of brakes filled the street!

The leading police car stopped abruptly, almost crashing into the white sedan. The driver of the vehicle carrying Hernandez also reacted swiftly, jamming on the brakes!

"Bang!"

Even with a seatbelt fastened, Hernandez was thrust forward by the massive inertia, his forehead nearly hitting the seatback, his stomach churning, almost vomiting the water he had drunk earlier. His secretary beside him hurriedly tried to steady him.

"Damn it! What's going on?!"

Director Nelson Gutierrez clutched his chest, sore from the seatbelt, in shock as a surge of fury rushed to his head.

He suddenly rolled down the window, leaned halfway out, about to shout insults ahead.

Yet, the words got stuck in his throat before he could scream.

The door of the white sedan was forcefully pushed open, and a middle-aged man in an old-fashioned police uniform, dragging a seven or eight-year-old ragged Little Boy, jumped out.

The man's face was weary, eyes sunken, even wearing so slightly worn dals indicating he might have once been a veteran officer.

After getting out, he imdiately raised his hands high, not to surrender but to draw attention, then shouted with every ounce of energy towards the convoy, his voice distorted by excitent and despair:

"Unjust!! Minister Hernandez! You must seek justice for us!!"

"The officials in Michoacán are lawless! They traffic children! Harbor criminals! Take bribes! Commit tax evasion! Abuse their power, and murderers roam free!"

His loud voice echoed across the suddenly silent street, clearly reaching the ears of everyone in the vehicles.

The police accompanying the convoy finally reacted, pouncing like hungry tigers, pinning the shouting man to the ground, trying to silence him.

The Little Boy was terrified and cried loudly.

But it was too late.

Sitting in the vehicle, Hernandez heard every word clearly.

His facial muscles twitched, then slowly, he grinned, showing a mouthful of white teeth, ironically amused.

"You really brought quite the gift."

In the hotel suite.

Hernandez sat on the sofa, looking at the middle-aged man across from him, then at the Little Boy beside him with fearful eyes.

He picked up an apple from the fruit tray on the table, grabbed so exquisitely packaged chocolates, and handed them to the Little Boy, forcing a gentle smile: "Hungry, kid? Have so food first."

The Little Boy dared not accept, glancing up at the middle-aged man.

"Go on, it's okay." Hernandez's voice softened, reaching out to tousle the Little Boy's ssy hair.

The man then nodded, and only then did the Little Boy gingerly take the apple and chocolate, muttering "Thank you" and eating in small bites, clearly starving.

Hernandez's gaze returned to the man, his tone slightly reproachful but mostly relieved: "Next ti, don't drive so recklessly, it's too dangerous. If the police car hadn't stopped, or my driver had reacted slower, you'd probably be dead now. Couldn't you speak out more safely?"

Hearing this, the man's eyes instantly reddened, his weathered voice choked with sobs and helplessness: "Minister, I have no choice, really no choice, I tried regular reporting channels, my letters sank like stones, calls were perfunctory, I even feel watched, I'm afraid one day the kid and I will die accidentally at ho or on the road. I knew you were coming today, it was my only chance, I had to use this way to get your attention..."

He took a deep breath, trying to calm down, beginning to introduce himself: "I'm Alfonso Morales, deputy director of the Santa Maria Town police station."

He pointed to the child beside him, "This is Camarena, my comrade's son, his father was my best Brother, last year during a raid on a robbery gang he got ambushed, gravely wounded and died. His mother was long gone, so I took him in, my salary isn't much, but tightening the belt, I can support us two."

"But my conscience can't take it, Minister!"

Alfonso's emotions surged, fists clenched, "I found out our Director and a few prominent town figures are in cahoots, they're systematically trafficking children from afar or holess kids, I can't even imagine where those kids are sold!"

He spoke faster as he got angrier: "Just last month, the mayor's youngest son and the tax officer's nephew got into a fight in a bar, they pulled guns, shot two people dead publicly, we dispatched and arrested them, the evidence was clear, there's surveillance! But that night, the Director personally ordered their release! Citing 'Insufficient evidence', and ridiculously, days later, the main server and backup storing the surveillance were both damaged! Isn't this just ridiculous?!"
