Chapter 1602: Chapter 737: Justice

“Close-in weapon system! Open fire!”

“Boom boom boom boom boom boom—!”

The piercing sound of high-speed gunfire erupted as multiple “CIWS” systems spewed out lethal tongues of fire, creating a dense barrage attempting to weave a web of death in the sky.

Countless 20mm depleted uranium armor-piercing shells rained down like scorching iron rain on the diving enemy aircraft and descending bombs.

An F/A-18 was hit directly during its dive, disintegrating midair into a massive fireball.

Another dropped bomb was intercepted madly by the “CIWS”, exploding just a few dozen ters from the deck, with the blast’s shockwave flipping and tearing apart several helicopters that hadn’t been properly secured on the deck, scattering debris and igniting a raging fire.

A few other F-16s used the chaos created by their teammates to fly low from different directions, their under-wing lights flashing as AGM-65 “Maverick” missiles, trailing smoke, charged straight at the island superstructure and side shell!

“Missile! Port side!”

“Hard starboard rudder!”

The warship made every effort to perform clumsy evasive maneuvers.

A “Maverick” skimd past the island structure, shattering a radar antenna.

Another struck hard at the edge of the flight deck on the port side rear!

“Boom!!”

The violent explosion rattled the entire warship again, tearing a massive hole in the deck, with flas and thick smoke gushing from the breach. Damage control personnel braved the intense heat and deadly smoke, desperately using firefighting hoses to try and contain the fire.

“Report damage!”

“Port flight deck damaged! One elevator jamd! Compartnts are on fire! Casualties… Casualties are being counted!”

Admiral Dönitz: “Order all combat-ready fighter jets to take off imdiately to seize air superiority; we can’t let them launch a second wave of attacks!”

The four F-14 “Tomcat” fighters that had previously scrambled into the air now, under the powerful guidance of AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System), used their Phoenix missile range advantage to launch a deadly assault on the US Military aircraft cluster attempting to disengage or regroup.

“Fox 3! Fox 3! (Radar-guided missile launch call sign)”

The AIM-54 “Phoenix” long-range air-to-air missiles launched from beneath the “Tomcats,” racing towards the distant enemy aircraft with vengeance.

The sky once again blood with lethal fireworks, as two unsuspecting U.S. Military F-16s attempting to turn were hit by “Phoenixes,” turning into two falling fireballs.

The montum of the U.S. Military’s surprise attack was brutally arrested.

The remaining U.S. Navy aviators, seeing the futility and with fuel and ammunition running low, uttered frustrated curses in the communication channels as they began to withdraw from the battlefield and retreat toward the coastline.

On the sea, the xican Special Fleet was left severely battered.

The “Chimalpopoca” frigate was severely listing; though the fire was controlled, it lost most of its combat capabilities.

The “Tenochtitlan” flight deck was billowing smoke, with damage control personnel still struggling.

Each of the other ships had also sustained minor damage, with missile debris and oil slick floating on the sea’s surface.

The smoke was gradually being blown away by the sea breeze, but the pungent sll of gunpowder and burning lingered in the air.

The alarm bells hadn’t completely stopped, but their intensity was gradually diminishing.

Admiral Karl Dönitz looked out from the observation window at the mortally damaged fleet and then at the traces of disappearing enemy aircraft in the distance, slowly taking off his hat and solemnly saying to Lutjens: “Assess the casualties, rescue the wounded, evaluate the damage, and send a telegram to xico City…”

He paused:

“My fleet successfully repelled a massive U.S. Military air raid in Maine Bay, confird downing 8 enemy aircraft, with 3 more possibly downed. Our fleet’s ‘Chimalpopoca’ is critically damaged, the ‘Tenochtitlan’ and multiple ships have minor damages, personnel casualties… are being tallied.”

“My fleet still retains basic combat capability and will continue performing landing cover and blockade missions.”

“Tell the Leader, and also tell the guys on shore, the ocean is still in our hands.”

Lutjens silently saluted and turned to carry out the orders.

Inside the special train carriage.

Victor held the just-received telegram in his hand.

“I’ve finished reading Dönitz’s report,” Victor finally spoke, his voice sowhat hoarse, “The fleet suffered significant losses, the ‘Chimalpopoca’ is essentially crippled, the warship deck also took a hit, vastly reducing the efficiency of carrier-based aircraft takeoffs and landings in the short term. The U.S. Military still has so assets; we shouldn’t underestimate them.”

Whether the U.S. Military can fight is actually sothing the 39th Army should be asked; back when they collided at Yun Mountain, everyone was mutually amazed, ‘Whoa, is the other side that fierce?’

If it were any other country, they would have collapsed long ago, but the U.S. Military managed to withstand the cutting edge and can counterattack in situ; their capabilities are notably strong.

He tossed the telegram onto the table, leaned forward in his seat, and looked at Kennedy: “What does the Departnt of Defense an? What’s the Staff Departnt’s take? What is our next step? We can’t just keep playing a war of attrition at sea against the Aricans; we can’t outmatch their resources.”

Kennedy took a deep breath and pointed to an inconspicuous spot along the northeast coast of Maine.

“The Staff Departnt and the Departnt of Defense have conducted urgent simulations and believe we must secure a stable foothold onshore in the current situation. The Mixed Fleet after this battle needs rest and replenishnt, relying solely on naval guns and carrier-based aircraft for landing support is increasingly risky and inefficient.”

His finger tapped emphatically on the small island: “Here, Machias Seal Island, it lies about 12 kiloters east off the Maine coast, also close to Canada’s New Brunswick province. It’s an uninhabited disputed island with no clear administrative affiliation; both the United States and Canada claim sovereignty, but neither has stationed troops. Only the Canadian Coast Guard occasionally patrols it.”
