Capítulo 1893: Chapter 810: Hydra Becos a Shit-Stirrer
He looked out the window, in the Holyrood Palace gardens, workers were changing the flags. The old Union Jack was lowered, and the new flag of the Scottish Kingdom was slowly raised. The process was quiet, yet thrilling.
“Tis have changed.” He said softly, unsure if he was talking to himself, or to those ancient portraits on the wall.
April 30th, Gulf of xico, offshore.
The blue seawater sparkled under the sun.
A fleet of three warships was cruising southeast at cruising speed. Leading the fleet was the xican Navy’s latest “Kukulkan” destroyer, its streamlined hull cutting a white trail across the sea surface.
On the bridge, fleet commander Admiral Carlos ndoza held up binoculars, observing the sea horizon. His mission was a “friendly visit” to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar, conducting joint exercises and humanitarian dical activities.
But everyone knew, this route skirted India’s “backyard.”
“General, received reconnaissance report from ‘Sea Eagle-2’ drone,” the communications officer reported, “An Indian Navy frigate fleet, 50 nautical miles southeast of us, is maintaining a parallel course at the sa speed.”
ndoza put down his binoculars, a cold smile played on his lips: “Our Indian friends are quite ‘enthusiastic,’ coming all this way to walk with us. Notify the ‘Sea Wolf’ submarine to maintain its subrged state and conduct sonar array tests at the scheduled location, make so noise… slightly louder.”
“Yes!” A hint of excitent flashed in the communications officer’s eyes.
An hour later.
On the Indian Navy’s “Lanville” frigate, the sonar operator’s face suddenly changed dramatically: “Officer! Detected abnormal underwater sound patterns! Features… unknown characteristics! Not a conventional rchant ship or known submarine model! Location, on our fleet’s port side, about 20 nautical miles away, depth 150 ters, moving slowly!”
The captain rushed to the sonar screen, looking at that ghostly signal, sweat beading on his forehead. An unknown submarine? So close to the Indian coast? What exactly do the xicans intend?
“Keep tracking! Report to East Coast Fleet Command! Request reinforcents!” The captain issued a series of orders, “All hands to secondary battle preparation! Anti-submarine helicopters ready!”
The tense atmosphere spread among the Indian fleet. And fifty nautical miles away, on the bridge of the “Kukulkan,” Admiral ndoza leisurely sipped coffee.
“Are the Indians nervous?” he asked.
“Their fleet formation has changed, anti-submarine helicopters have taken off, and communications traffic has surged.” The electronic warfare officer reported.
“Good.”
ndoza nodded, “Let the ‘Sea Wolf’ continue its ‘friendly observation,’ we’ll proceed as planned, head towards Sri Lanka. Rember, when passing near the Indian fleet, use the international channel to send a polite greeting: ‘Thanks to the Indian Navy for accompanying us all the way, wish you a pleasant journey.'”
When this greeting, sent in standard English, echoed in the public channel of the Indian Navy fleet, the face of the “Lanville” captain turned green. This was blatant flaunting and provocation!
The ssage quickly reached New Delhi. In the Departnt of Defense conference room, the atmosphere was grim.
“Just one xican destroyer, two frigates, plus an unidentified advanced submarine, dares to play this ga right at our doorstep!” a naval leader stord angrily, “This is a blatant challenge to our regional influence!”
“Their submarine technology exceeds our expectations,” the intelligence officer said looking grim, “Sound patterns cannot be matched, silencing performance is excellent. If this type of submarine appears in the Arabian Sea or Bay of Bengal…”
“We must respond!” soone shouted, “Increase patrol strength in relevant waters, show muscle!”
“What to show?”
The Defense Minister spoke coldly, “Our new aircraft carrier is still rusting in the dock, carrier planes have not landed, and half of the main destroyers are undergoing repairs. And the xicans? They are fighting a high-tech localized war in North Arica, with equipnt upgrades far surpassing us. Competing with them in an arms race?”
Not a sound could be heard in the conference room.
The rapid economic growth masked the great disparity in military strength. When the xican Navy carried out this kind of “polite intimidation” with technological superiority, India found that their hand was not full.
“Inform the Navy.”
The Defense Minister finally ordered, “Maintain surveillance, but avoid direct confrontation. anwhile, accelerate military purchase negotiations with France and Russia. Also… through diplomatic channels, express ‘concern’ to xico, but the wording must be cautious. We cannot make enemies on two fronts at the sa ti.”
A gently worded “concern” notice was sent to xico City. And in the Gulf of xico, Admiral ndoza’s fleet leisurely headed to Sri Lanka, as if everything just now was a regular mariti encounter.
But everyone understood, that calm greeting ssage and that ghostly submarine had already cast a heavy stone on the power board in the Indian Ocean, the ripples just beginning to spread.
The winds of May began to take on heat.
Several storms were being brewed in unseen places, awaiting that world-famous stage in July.
The fractures of the Old World beca clearer under the dawn of the New World, and could no longer be repaired.
