With a low growl, the wolf lowered itself to the ground, then pounced at them. This ti, it didn’t target Selene at all.
It was mainly focused on Leon, as if it could sense that he was more dangerous.
Clang!!!
Leon blocked the deadly claws with his sword, feeling the monstrous strength push him back. He didn’t allow himself to be sent flying this ti, as it’d simply be a repetition of what had happened earlier.
Shifting his weight to the left part of his body, he redirected the beast’s attack to his right and let it fall onto the asphalt.
Bang!
The concrete cracked under its force, its claws digging holes into the street.
Leon imdiately distanced himself from the wolf, then shook his hand slightly. The shadow of the wolf twisted and solidified as it took the shape of shackles and locked around its legs, keeping it in place. Temporarily, of course.
The beast yanked its legs free with just a bit of effort, but it was delayed long enough for a thick, ice spear to stab into its ribs.
The creature howled in pain as frost spread through its blood vessels around the wound.
Before it could shatter the spear, Selene dissolved it by herself, reclaiming so of her expended mana.
Rushing at the injured wolf, Leon held the hilt of his sword tightly, then swung with all his might.
The beast also countered, raising its claws to smash him into the ground. Leon didn’t dodge. With the Force Ring on his finger, he activated it for the first ti.
Fifty mana points were consud, and a translucent barrier appeared around him. The large paw of the wolf slamd into the barrier and was halted.
anwhile, Leon’s Jade Greatsword struck the beast’s jaw, eliciting a cracking sound and a wound from it.
The beast recoiled in agony, feeling pain unlike before. It had always been the apex predator in this area, hunting down powerful zombies and mutated beasts. It had always been able to dominate every one of its enemies, and they all fell to its jaws.
Now, it was being pressured and injured by these small humans. The feeling was different and suffocating.
As another ice spear ca at it, its jaw closed on the projectile, shattering it before it could even deal any damage.
Then, its gaze locked onto Selene. With a growl, it turned and charged at her. The girl’s eyes narrowed, and she hurriedly tried to retreat. However, she wasn’t fast enough.
The beast reached her side, just for Leon to suddenly appear out of its shadow.
To their shock, the wolf seed to have anticipated this. As soon as Leon surfaced from its shadow, it raised its left hind leg and struck at his chest.
Bang!
Leon was caught off guard and sent flying, crashing into a building opposite them. Selene paled, imdiately using all her speed to distance herself from the beast.
The wolf noticed her attempt to escape and imdiately swung its claws at her. Her expression hardened, realizing she would be hit by that attack.
Using up her last dregs of mana, she ford a thick ice shield on her side, just a split second before the thick, dark paw reached her.
Bang!
As expected, the shield shattered upon impact, but it was enough to steal away so force behind the attack. The rest was handled by Selene directly.
The paw slamd into her side, and her figure bent oddly. Blood sprayed from her lips as she was sent crashing into a shopping mall nearby.
With its two enemies knocked down, the wolf howled victoriously, its intelligent green eyes reflecting pride.
Suddenly, there was the sound of glass being crushed under boots, and footsteps.
Leon erged from the building he had crashed into, looking broken. His breastplate had caved in, and his face was covered in blood that dripped from his head.
Only his black eyes continued to shine with an ominous glint.
The wolf’s attention was drawn to him, and the fur on its back bristled. It stepped back cautiously, growling at him.
Leon raised his head and glared at it, a dented grin forming on his face.
"Heh."
Although he looked injured and weak, his entire body was pulsing with energy. After fighting the wolf and almost using up his mana, his stamina had dropped to less than half, and the Overdrive trait had automatically activated.
A quick glance at his stats made him grin despite facing such a monstrosity.

Just as he felt geared up, sothing happened to the wolf and stunned him.
A pale gold light flowed under its skin, and all its injuries were healed instantly. The beast returned to its pristine condition, causing Leon’s gaze to harden.
However, he remained unfazed. Lifting his blade with one hand, he dashed at it and jumped into the air.
The wolf raised its head to look at him, also lifting its front legs to attack him midair.
Leon struck the claws with his blade, sending them back to the ground. Using the montum of his own attack, he brought his feet together and slamd them into the wolf’s head.
Bang!
Its head jerked back, and a pained growl escaped its maw. Landing on the ground, Leon didn’t stop. Instead, he descended on the wolf with a flurry of attacks.
He pivoted to the side, avoiding being struck down by its deadly claws. Then, before the beast could turn, he sliced open a wound on its side.
The wolf howled and recoiled, but Leon didn’t retreat. Instead, he stuck to its side like an annoying pest, dealing more damage while using his speed to dodge most of its attacks.
Soon, the wolf was covered in injuries, even more than when it had first been injured.
The beast panted heavily, feeling a chill crawl down its spine. It wanted to run, but the look in Leon’s eyes was obvious.
There would be no escaping.
Growling, it lowered itself to the ground, then pounced at Leon with all its might, shooting forward like an arrow let loose on a bowstring.
