Now reading: Chapter 1286 - 252: Crisis in the Skies from World-saving Plan: The Only Savior, a Sci-fi novel by Zhao Buqian.

There’s still a small segnt of ti left before the Wind Roc departs.

Zhang Xiaoman wasn’t sitting inside the inn alone waiting but was standing on the third-layer deck, admiring the surrounding environnt.

Perhaps due to the lack of industrial pollution, the air and plants in this world are very clean.

The crisp green, combined with this vast grassland, gives people a sense of calm and tranquility upon seeing it.

The Wind Roc is extrely massive; the largest animal on Water Blue Star, the blue whale, looks like a tiny toy in front of it.

Zhang Xiaoman estimated that just its body length might have reached nearly 50 ters, and its wingspan was even more astonishingly terrifying.

If it were to fly over a city, it’s probably not an exaggeration to say it could block out the sun.

Logically speaking, such a massive body, without relying on magic power, would seemingly have a hard ti flying.

But the Wind Roc isn’t an ordinary bird; it’s said that this creature has so sub-dragon lineage, which can be seen sowhat from their appearance.

Although the na Wind Roc includes the character for "roc," its appearance is far from that of an ordinary small bird.

Its back is very broad, and it possesses six legs, resembling a massive lizard lying on the ground.

What amazed Zhang Xiaoman the most is that this creature has as many as twenty-four pairs of wings, distributed on both sides of the body, like airplane wings.

Normally, when moving on the ground, they tuck their wings away, protecting their backs like the shell of an insect.

Once needed for flight, the twenty-four pairs of wings spread wide, with the largest wing spanning nearly 100 ters, totaling over 200 ters in width when both sides are combined.

Now Zhang Xiaoman finally understood why the people here specifically built such a vast grassland for it.

Given such a massive size, if the area were smaller, it couldn’t accommodate its movents at all.

Not to ntion, the airflow generated by the flapping of those wings alone would probably tear apart the surrounding buildings.

It’s just a pity that despite the enormous size of these Wind Rocs, their ranks aren’t very high, only at the level of mid-level demon beasts.

Their gigantic bodies limit their reflexes and speed, making aerial combat practically impossible, and they also don’t possess much magic power, so when faced with enemies, they can only flee with their heads down.

But regardless, their size is undeniably there, and even though their internal magic power is limited, not just any creature can bully them.

Ordinary flying magic beasts probably wouldn’t dare approach upon seeing the Wind Roc’s size; true predators would likely only be so sub-dragon species and genuine giant dragons.

At this mont, the passengers for this journey are gradually taking their places.

The Wind Roc’s passenger capacity is decent, being able to carry about 200-300 people at once.

Of course, if this number were converted to a spaceship of the sa size in the Star Alliance, it would seem a bit low.

After all, their flying thods and levels of civilization are different—one being Dark Spirit chanical Technology, and the other a re biological load, making their efficiency incomparable.

These passengers are mainly divided into three parts.

The first part comprises rchants and rcenaries like the Pilei Caravan, who are the most nurous group among them.

Another part includes so wealthy individuals, who, for their own purposes, travel to the Royal City, with the Wind Roc, naturally, becoming the most convenient ans of transport.

As for the last part, they are so plainly dressed commoners.

So are seeking education, while others are driven by work or other reasons, having no choice but to spend a large amount of money to take this expensive mode of transportation.

Among them, Zhang Xiaoman saw many young children; according to Pilei’s explanation, all of them are heading to Tarata to participate in the Yellow Jade Magic and Martial Academy’s admissions.

Every year, around the ti of the Divine Presence Festival, it’s also the recruitnt period for the new year at this renowned Magic and Martial Arts Academy in the Royal City.

If accepted, these kids are fortunate enough to join the academy next year and study there, which could completely change their lives.

But this recruitnt has strict conditions; simply put, whether they can pass ultimately depends on their talent and qualifications.

"Oh? What if they fail the assessnt? Riding the Wind Roc isn’t cheap, and a Gold Coin should be a considerable burden for them, right?"

Looking at the crowd below, Zhang Xiaoman asked.

Beside him, Pilei stood half a step behind, explaining with a slightly wistful tone:

"If they fail the assessnt, there’s a high probability they’ll stay there and find a job or sothing... Tarata is too far from here, making it nearly impossible to return by ans other than the Wind Roc..."

Zhang Xiaoman understood—it turns out, this is a one-way ticket with no return. No wonder the people below were all looking so tearful.

If these children are lucky and get selected by the academy, after a few years of completion, they should be able to earn enough money to return themselves.

But if they’re not so lucky and lack the requisite qualifications, they’ll have to find a job there to make a living.

Whether there’s a chance to spend another Gold Coin to return later is another matter.

He sighed, realizing that in every world, it’s always the ordinary folks at the bottom who truly endure the hardships of the Mortal World.
