449: Chapter 330: Monster in the Town 449: Chapter 330: Monster in the Town As for why he used a hand crossbow instead of silver bullets?
The reason was simple, he couldn’t get his hands on them!
Such bullets, unless made by oneself, were very hard to co by, and managing to obtain a silver arrowhead from so demon hunting enthusiasts was already quite an achievent for him.
But to get silver bullets, which were technically challenging to produce, even the enthusiasts couldn’t manage it.
Getting such bullets was only possible through custom orders from factories specifically making munitions, and otherwise, it was really difficult to obtain them.
And how could a factory possibly cater to his small order by crafting these bullets specifically for him?
Moreover, there was another main reason, which was that he couldn’t afford the bullets.
A hand crossbow allowed the arrows to be reused, but once the silver bullets were shot, they were basically gone.
So, he could only make do with a hand crossbow for now, but Aaron felt this was quite fitting, as it matched the image of a demon hunter he envisioned in his mind.
Of course, all this information was imparted to him by Grandpa Barr.
Although he hadn’t practiced it himself, he believed his grandfather wouldn’t lie to him, and that he was just lacking so practical experience!
After a brief silence, Aaron finally nodded in agreent at the other party’s earnest request, even though as a demon hunter, he really shouldn’t have agreed to the client’s request.
Considering he was just a rookie, knowing that he would soon face real monsters alone inevitably made him hesitate.
Okay, Aaron admitted that he wasn’t doing too well with the “fearless” criterion of the four major standards of a demon hunter, but it was his first ti after all.
Or perhaps, he wasn’t too confident about the “swift” criterion either.
“Thank you!
Aaron!
Wait for !”
Bena said as she ran upstairs to her room and soon ca back down.
She had changed into a new outfit, her golden hair tied back into a ponytail.
Her skirt was swapped for jeans that facilitated easier movent, showcasing a sharp, capable air.
Seeing her, Aaron couldn’t help but be montarily stunned; he was clearly dazzled by her appearance.
“Let’s go!
Where are those guys now?
I want to avenge my parents!”
Bena didn’t notice his reaction and headed toward the door, slipping a small handgun into her jeans pocket.
“Ah?
Oh, yes!
Let’s go!
Follow !”
Snapping back to his senses, Aaron hurried after her.
Outside, the streets were already bustling with residents, and the flower pots were filled with milk.
Children were happily frolicking around, while adults strolled down the streets in pairs or small groups, smiling and enjoying the mont.
At this ti, Bena was in no mood to join the festivities.
Her focus was entirely on her parents matter, and she even felt a growing irritation towards everything around her.
She planned that after this event, if she survived, she would move away from here; every second she stayed in this town only added to her pain and sadness.
The two passed through three streets and ca to the town’s only park, which was more of a large garden than a park, with no real entertainnt features, just a small lake and so decorations.
Aaron managed to find this place after asking around among the townspeople, who ntioned there was a small pine forest here.
“This is it!
I think those monsters must be inside.
We need to be prepared.
Bena, are you sure you want to go in with ?”
Aaron asked, pointing to a cave in front of them.
Bena pulled out her handgun, her gaze unwavering.
“I’m coming with you!
I must personally kill these monsters, to avenge my parents!”
Aaron took a deep breath and then opened his suitcase, from which he took out his hand crossbow, loaded it with a silver arrow, and took the bottle of Holy Water, placing it in his jacket pocket for ergency use.
“Let’s go, let’s et these damned demons.”
…
A mont later, staring at an empty cave, the two young people looked sowhat dumbfounded.
They had co running here, eager to slay demons, only to find nothing at all—it was a complete miss.
“How can there be nothing…
Where did they go?
Could I have been mistaken?”
Aaron looked around, his expression sowhat ugly.
“But, this is the only place in the town with a pine forest.
Logically, there shouldn’t be a mistake…”
He said this, suddenly pausing, and then his expression drastically changed.
“No good!
The thorny demons, they must have gone out hunting!
Today is the Milk Festival, and people will be at the square!
There could be an attack by the demons there!
We must hurry and stop them!”
Aaron’s face was anxious, and beside him, Bena was also startled, and they quickly retraced their path.
On the way, the two had just run out of the park when Bena suddenly stopped.
“Wait a minute!”
Aaron turned his head, his gaze puzzled as he looked at her.
“What’s wrong, Bena?”
Bena pointed towards the police station next to her and said, “I think we can call for so reinforcents on the way, if those monsters really rush into the crowd, just the two of us might find it hard to handle…”
Aaron, upon hearing this, also felt she was right and imdiately nodded.
Together, they ran into the police station.
“Officer!
Officer!
We have an ergency!”
As soon as they entered, Aaron started shouting loudly, as if there was already a large group of monsters attacking the square.
However, the spacious police station was emptily devoid of any people.
“Strange, what’s going on here?
Where did everyone go?
Why can’t we see even a single shadow!”
He went around each room but could not find any police presence.
“Could it be that they’ve already gone to the scene?
But that can’t be right.
Even if everyone had left, they wouldn’t just leave the door open, would they…?”
While he was saying this, Aaron suddenly noticed Bena beside him, her eyes fixated on sothing, displaying a vacant yet intensely sorrowful expression.
“Eh?
Bena?
What’s wrong?”
He called out to her, but she seed not to hear and continued staring blankly in the sa direction.
Curious, Aaron also followed her gaze and saw a huge water tank in a room labeled ‘Evidence Room,’ at which Bena seed to be blankly staring.
“This…
could it be…?”
Aaron only pondered briefly, then understood what was going on.
It seed that Bena’s parents might have died in this water tank, no wonder she looked so distressed.
