Silence filled the room imdiately after Yena spoke.
Kai didn’t pull away from her right away.
He stayed positioned directly over her on the large bed, breathing hard while his hands remained firmly gripped around her bare hips.
Yena stared back at him with wide eyes, and her chest rose and fell rapidly beneath him.

"We have a desert queen to overthrow, and I need my favorite scavenger to watch my back."
Yena let out a shaky sigh of relief.
She relaxed completely against him, letting her tired muscles finally unwind.
The subtle shift in her posture told him she believed his words, and that small victory felt far more rewarding than simply winning an argunt.
