Yandere Monster Evolution: My Blind Wife Will Become a Demonic Queen Chapter 83: Forbidden
"Get back!" Seok shouted and blocked the black sharp wood that was aid at his head.
His reaction speed was insane. The mont the water erupted, his floating spear flashed through the mist like a streak of blue lightning.
"Formation!" he ordered, and his voice echoed over the swamp. "Ranged in the center! lee front and sides! Move. Move."
The group moved and reassembled in seconds.
The annoying archer from earlier might have been a jerk, but he wasn’t a complete amateur. He drew his bowstring back in a fluid motion as an arrow tipped with a glowing green aura was aid directly at the rippling water.
The couple at the back moved as a single unit. The man unstrapped a heavy tower shield from his back while the woman’s hand began to glow with a soft white light as she began chanting sothing in a low tone.
"Brian," Vera’s voice reached my ears and I imdiately turned toward her. "I can roughly sense them since they are underwater. But I think there are more than five."
"Got it," I whispered and reached down to grab the dagger from my waist. Then the fog instantly parted, as the monsters fully revealed themselves.
Calling them ’rmaids’ was a sick joke. The legends of beautiful maidens with fish tails were completely different from the things swimming toward us.
From our left were three rn, whose torsos were covered in jagged, obsidian-like scales. Their faces were elongated and resembled a cross between a human skull and a deep-sea anglerfish with complete rows of needle-thin teeth jutting out of their jaws.
Even their webbed hands ended in thick and curving talons that looked capable of tearing through armor like wet paper.
On the opposite side were four females. They were smaller in size but sohow they seed even more terrifying than the rn.
Their long hair floated in the water and their eyes were completely pitch black, devoid of any pupils. And they didn’t just swim. They glided through the swamp with unnatural grace as they began circling us.
"They are surrounding us!" One of the frontline Hunters panicked and his sword started shaking as he splashed water everywhere.
"Hold your ground!" Seok barked. He gestured with his hand and his floating spear split into three distinct afterimages.
Soon, one of the rn erupted from the water directly in front of Seok and lunged forward while swinging its massive talon-like hands downward.
Seok t the attack head-on. His main spear blocked the claws and embedded the tip into one of the talons, while the afterimages of the weapon slashed the monster’s sides.
"Fire!" the archer yelled.
TWANG!
His green aura-tipped arrow flew through the fog and embedded itself directly into the shoulder of a rmaid that had tried to sneak up on the group’s back.
"Urrrg!" the female monster shrieked in pain and grabbed the arrow to pull it out, however she was completely oblivious to what was going to happen in the next instant as she tried to do that.
BANG!
The arrow exploded in a burst of green acid, making the creature shriek in even more agony as its half-dead body thrashed in the water.
"Shield up!" the man from the couple roared and stepped in front of his partner as another rman leaped out of the swamp like a whale.
BOOM!
The monster slamd its heavy tail against the tower shield.
The force of the impact created a massive wave which pushed the shield bearer back a few inches.
"Divine Light!"
His partner had finished her chant and a barrier of holy light flared around them which shocked the monster and forced it to retreat.
It was a chaotic and brutal fight. Every Hunter was fighting for their life. With every movent they made, water splashed across the distance. The surroundings were filled with mages’ chanting, monstrous screams, and the sound of splashing water.
But amidst the chaos, two rmaids had spotted what they clearly thought were the easiest targets. The two idiots wearing strange masks called paper bags.
They subrged themselves in the water, leaving only faint V-shaped ripples in the dark water as they sped toward us from opposite sides.
"I am coming!" Seok noticed them rushing toward us and imdiately tried to dash toward us.
In his mind, we must be so weak Hunters, but he didn’t know what was actually hidden behind one of these masks.
"They are coming underwater," Vera muttered, while her head tracked their movents perfectly.
Suddenly, one of the rmaids jumped out of the water and opened her jaw to bite off my arm, which was raised in front of holding the dagger.
Seok also lifted his spear and aid at the rmaid’s back but even if he did throw it, he would be too late.
The dark green water exploded upward and its droplets rained down across my mask.
The rmaid’s jaw was opened to an impossible angle and rows of thin teeth were glistening with thick stringy saliva.
The sheer montum of her leap brought her face to face with in a fraction of a second and her hollow pitch-black eyes were fixed on my throat.
To Seok, to the archer, to anyone else watching, I was a dead man. A foolish and weak Hunter wearing a paper bag, about to lose his life alongside his arm to a C-Rank monster.
But they didn’t see what happened next.
Before Seok’s spear could even leave his hand, Vera’s fingers loosened from my sleeve and her body lowered slightly.
Then she disappeared.
SPLASH!
A surge of water erupted directly in front of as she intercepted the leaping monster midair. Her small and fragile-looking hand shot out like a blur and her fingers dug directly through the obsidian scales of the rmaid’s throat.
CRACK!
The sound of shattering bone echoed in my ears. The rmaid’s pained shout died instantly in her throat and was replaced by choking gasps.
Vera’s grip was so absolute and devastatingly powerful that the entire montum of the creature stopped instantly in midair.
But Vera wasn’t done yet.
She twisted her body with fluid grace and despite the waist-deep water restraining her movents, she still slamd the rmaid downward into the swamp.
BOOM!
A massive geyser of water shot five feet into the air. And after a second, red blood began to mix with the black-green water.
"Attempting to touch him..." Vera’s voice was low and devoid of its usual soft and curious tone. Now, it was flat. Cold. And unforgiving. "...is forbidden."
