Stuart had Edie safely in his arms, and she could feel his body temperature through his shirt, She could no longer hold back her tears. Tears burned her eyes, and her lower lip trembled. Her body collapsed at once when she felt Stuart’s strength.
She was supposed to be grateful for what he just did for her, but when she opened her mouth, gratefulness turned into disappointnt, "Why, why did you co so late? I was so scared...no one would help ..." Stuart tightened his embrace, and his heart ached with pity for her, "Sorry, I am so sorry, it’s all my fault."
Mr. Bates let out a heavy sigh, and he had known Stuart since he was a child and had never seen him apologize to anyone. Not only did he apologize to his wife, but he also blad himself. He was always gentle and caring when it ca to Edie.
Edie leaned against Stuart’s chest, she gasped and started to cry harder. As if she was releasing all her pain at once. He looked down and saw Edie’s delicate feet, and they were covered in dirt and scraps as a result of her running in her bare feet.
It was hard and painful for Stuart to see her like this. He took out a handkerchief from his pocket and raised Edie’s feet slightly and gently wiped the dirt off. After he was done, Stuart picked up her shoes and kneeled on one knee and put them on her.
He held them as though he was holding a pair of glass slippers. Stuart didn’t want to waste any more ti, so he lifted Edie up and started to leave, but he gave one order to Mr. Bates, "Mr. Bates, handle this for ." Mr. Bates answered respectfully, "Yes, Mr. Yates, don’t worry about a thing. I will take care of it." After Stuart left, Mr. Bates was the one in charge on behalf of Stuart.
Mr. Bates’ way of handling things was very similar to Stuart’s. He simply made the bodyguards throw the unconscious Baldwin out and started speaking to the people, "Thank you for your cooperation. I am very sorry about the incident today. My master is one of Beck Mansion’s shareholders, and it is his responsibility to ensure the safety of every person in the mansion. Stuart carried Edie to the lounge upstairs; it was a very comfortable room and had everything that he needed. Edie was exhausted, her body shivered involuntarily as if still erging in the nightmare.
Stuart put Edie on the sofa slowly and gently; he covered her in a blanket and poured her a glass of water. Suddenly, her small hand grasped his clothes tightly. It was as though she used up all her strength like she was holding onto a piece of driftwood at sea.
Edie’s red lips were now pale, she opened her mouth and begged in fright, "No...please don’t leave ... I’m so scared..." She was no longer crying, but she couldn’t close her eyes because if she closed them, her mind would drift to the visions of Baldwin’s dirty smile and the people’s mocking face. When she was alone and helpless, no one tried to help her. She begged and pleaded, but they just stood there and watched.
This incident took her back to the days when she lived in Greg’s house, alone, helpless, and feeling insignificant as though she didn’t matter to anyone. Stuart looked down at Edie, and her face was so pale, so fragile and vulnerable. Her bright eyes were now dim, and she sought help like a wounded cub, unwilling to leave her trusted family.
Stuart’s heart softened and embraced her. "Don’t worry, and I’m here." Feeling her body shaking, Stuart felt flustered and didn’t know what to do. Suddenly, he recalled the last ti when Edie was upset, and she had mistaken him for her mother in her unconscious state. That ti, she made him pat her head, which helped her to fall asleep.

Edie leaned against Stuart’s chest, and a familiar fragrance filled the room. She was surrounded by a sense of security. Strangely, she had always felt a sense of security when around Stuart. This feeling touched the deepest place in her heart. She felt like crying again. Edie closed her eyes, and tears coursed down her cheeks and dropped onto his chest. They burnt through his thin shirt and into his heart.
