When she heard Stuart’s question, Edie understood that Stuart was so angry because she had gone to see Donald after all he had done to her. "It was because he suddenly took it back, I wanted to know why?" she explained. "Then he told the necklace was not for sale, and that was the reason why I went there alone."
Edie felt that her explanation was reasonable, and if it did not imdiately make Stuart’s mind at ease, then at least it would not heighten his anger. As soon as she had finished, Stuart seed even angrier. He hit the door panel behind her, and it made a loud thud that made Edie shiver.
She had explained everything to him, and now he was even angrier. Edie looked at Stuart doubtfully, "What’s the matter with you?" He looked at her, coldly, "Edie, why do you not believe ?" Edie subconsciously denied, "I do believe you."
"I told you I would take care of it. Why didn’t you tell Donald contacted you? Why would you go to see him alone? Why didn’t you co and tell that he called you?"
A series of questions left Edie speechless. She opened her mouth to speak, but her mind was blank. She didn’t have a reasonable explanation, and she had to be silent. Did she believe him?
They had known each other for only a little more than a month. The only contact that really had was a contract. They had never been in the sa position, he had money, and she didn’t. Even though Mr. Sampson called her Mrs. Yates and everyone who worked for Stuart did the sa. There was also the fact that she lived in the Villa with him, but she knew in her heart that these things had deadlines and that soday it would co to an end.
She was not sure when the marriage would end, so how could she really trust him. She put the necklace first instead of her life. That was a burden that she had placed on him. Edie lowered her eyes to avoid Stuart’s. Silence filled the room.
It was a long ti before she found the courage to speak, "I’m sorry, It’s all my fault because of the necklace and how important it is to . I should have told you, but I knew you wouldn’t let go. I will try and not let it happen again."
Because of the necklace’s special significance and the fragile partnership between the two of them, she still couldn’t trust him. As much as she wanted to, she knew there was no way. All she could do was try to respect her partner and avoid any confrontation in the future.
"Try, that’s all you have to say?" Asked Stuart, with a sneer in his voice. There was so much coldness in his dark eyes as he was trying to hold back his anger. He knew she didn’t trust him at all. She apologized to appease him and maintain the partnership, but in her mind, he was still an outsider, and he wasn’t her first choice when things happened to arise.
This kind of recognition made Stuart disappointed. All the efforts he had made during this period seed insignificant to her. "If you can negotiate with Donald on your own rits and get the necklace back, then what’s the point of our arrangent?" Stuart said in a cold tone. For the first ti, he felt weak. The one person he wanted to protect didn’t believe him, and he now felt unprecedented frustration. At the sa ti, he realized that Edie’s had no feelings for him.
Edie was a little flustered when she heard Stuart said such words. She looked up in a panic and gave Stuart a blank look. What did he an by that? She didn’t understand. Did he want a divorce? Why did she feel so much sadness as soon as the idea arose?
"No, Stuart, I’ve never thought of it that way. I can’t get it back on my own. I still need you."
Stuart was not impressed, "But you never really trusted ," he said coldly. This ti, Edie really let him down. He had told her long ago that he did not need her apology, nor her gratitude. All he wanted from her was her trust, but she could not give it to him.
Just like now, no matter how many tis Edie apologized to him, she couldn’t change the fact that she went to see Donald without telling him. Stuart felt a twinge of pain when he rembered what he had seen when he arrived at the warehouse. As soon as this thought entered his mind, it made him furious.
Edie felt so upset that she did not understand why she kept apologizing to Stuart. He still refused to let go of the matter and kept clenching on it, "You said you want to trust you, then how about you? Do you trust ? You made my investigation very clear, but you wouldn’t say a word about your family to . Do you really think of as a reliable partner? Or am I just a prop that you can use to your advantage?"
Stuart’s face turned pale. He cherished her, loved her, and tried to protect her. Years of habit prevented him from opening his mouth to explain, and he could only squint his eyes. His big, cold hands ca to her face and squeezed her chin hard. He forced her to raise her head to look him in the eyes.
"If I am too kind to you, then do you have the strength to resist ."
After hearing this, Edie stared angrily at Stuart. "Resist you? Do you think it’s a ga? You have two sets of rules. One for and one for everyone else. Are you trying to do everything right because you’re rich and powerful? I shouldn’t have apologized to you at all, and you kept it from , I kept it from you, it’s fair!" Edie said.
She could feel the pressure on her chin getting tighter. She frowned a little, but she refused to say that she was in any pain. She pushed him away and said, "You Stay away from . I don’t want to talk to you right now."
