After everyone sat in their seats, the teacher handed out the booklets. Everyone casually started flipping through the pages. The teacher turned the projector on, and a few words appeared on the screen.
It read, "The process of giving birth." Edie was not expecting to see such startling content at the beginning of the course. She peeked at Stuart, and he was looking at the screen very intently.
With a serious tone in her voice, the teacher said, "Won have two ways of giving birth, natural labor and cesarean birth. We are now going to watch two videos about each of them."
The first video played was about natural labor, and because no anesthetic was used, the woman’s shrill cry echoed through the classroom. When seeing a baby coming out of such a small place, Edie’s expression changed. Blood was everywhere as the woman had a vaginal tear, which was between the vagina and rectum.
The whole classroom beca extrely quiet, except for the cries from the video. Everyone was in total shock, especially wives. They all covered their mouths in astonishnt. The scene sent a shiver down Edie’s back, even though she never had a child, she felt empathy for the woman in the video. She was scared and curious at the sa ti, and a confused expression crossed her face.
At the sa ti, taking Edie’s hand in his, Stuart squeezed tightly. She felt his hands sweaty and looked up at him. Edie noticed that his face was pale, he winced as his slim eyes stared at the screen with mixed emotions stirring inside.
The next video was cesarean birth. An anesthetic was used, and this ti there was no cry. However, they still gasped when the sharp scalpel cut open the woman’s belly. The two videos only played for fifteen minutes altogether, but they knew the actual ti far exceeded the actual birth itself. After the videos finished playing, the classroom was occupied by silence. Suddenly, a cry burst out from the back of the room.
A pregnant woman started crying after watching the video, she continually hit her husband’s chest and scread, "I... I don’t want to give birth anymore. It’s terrifying, and it’s all your fault!"
"I’m so sorry, honey. It will be okay... Please, don’t cry," Her husband said in a comforting voice. His wife was in a fluster, and his face started turning red out of embarrassnt.
The people around her who already had children started to comfort her as well and said, "Giving birth is not that scary, I’ve had two children, and I’m fine. Once you have the baby and see him or her for the first ti, then you will know that it was all worth it."
"I agree! I was in pain for a long ti, but the mont I saw my son, it was one of the happiest days of my life. Now watching him grow up, there are no words to describe how it makes you feel." Another woman said from the room.
"Don’t cry! Look at how worried your husband is about you." A lady calmly said.
Edie watched all this without knowing how to comfort the pregnant woman. She had never given birth to a child, and she was also afraid. Edie knew giving birth would hurt, but not until now did she realize that the pain was far beyond what she thought she could bear.
The teacher coughed, and the classroom quickly beca quiet. Then she said, "I understand that everyone has mixed feelings after watching these videos. I would like to say to the n who accompanied their wives today, please cherish the woman beside you!" Then the teacher looked around the room, paused, and continued, "Let’s take a ten-minute break. Next, we will watch the video of having a miscarriage. It is a little sad, so I just want you all to prepare yourself."
When the teacher finished speaking, all the n looked at their wives. When Edie looked at Stuart, he was looking at her with gleaming eyes. There was an incomprehensible emotion in them.
Stuart slightly winced, his eyes flickered around looking at the won in the room and said, "Does give birth really hurt that much?"
"Maybe?" Edie said with uncertainty in her voice.
A woman in front of them couldn’t resist turning around and said to them, "Of course it does! Think of soone cutting up your flesh without anesthetic, how painful do you think it would be! Your husband must be a good man because at least he attends this class with you. Unlike mine, as you can see, my husband isn’t here."
"We are newlyweds. Would you mind telling us about when you gave birth for the first ti? We are thinking about having a baby, but the videos are terrifying, I think I want a cesarean," explained Edie.
Hearing her words, the woman shook her head continuously and said, "Don’t have a cesarean. The recovery stage hurts like hell! I had a natural birth, and I was able to walk around shortly after." The woman looked around the room, and then she continued, "Also if you have a cesarean, it takes a long ti to heal. I strongly recomnd that you have a natural birth as it’s better for the baby!"
Edie noticed Stuart’s expression, the more the woman said, the paler his face turned. Also, ever since the video started, he wouldn’t let go of her hand, the sweat in his palm made Edie a little worried.
"What is wrong with Stuart? Eddie wondered.
"Are you okay? If you don’t want to continue, we can leave." Edie sounded concerned.
Stuart shook his head and didn’t say a word. They finished the last video and left. They drove ho in silence. Edie tried to talk to Stuart, but she never got a reply back. It was as though he had sothing on his mind.
When they got ho, Stuart went straight to the study. Mr. Sampson was keenly aware that there was sothing wrong with Stuart and asked Edie, "Why does Master seem so upset?"
Edie’s mind was restless as well. She said in a soft voice, "I don’t know, and I’ll go and check on him."
Edie walked into the study and saw Stuart had turned on his laptop, and he was looking at sothing very intently.
"Stuart, what’s wrong?" Edie asked tentatively as she walked over to him. She glanced at the laptop and saw what Stuart was looking at, it read, "Common Pregnancy Complications." She was utterly startled and said, "Why are you looking at this?"
Stuart turned around, looked into Edie’s eyes firmly, and said, stressing each word, "Edie, I don’t want a baby anymore."
"What?" She said, and an expression of disbelief crossed her face. Then after thinking, she finally understood why he was behaving so odd tonight. He was thinking about this from the first mont they started watching the videos. Edie silently said, "You don’t want a baby because it can put at risk?"
Edie’s eyes were brimd with tears; she hugged him gently and slled his scent. The most tender part of her heart was being touched by his love. She thought she had the best husband in the world.
