Now reading: Chapter 209: The Archive Bell Listens from Young Master's Pov: I Am The Game's Villain, a Fantasy novel by DQVJX.

The bell fragnt inside the sealed archive began listening harder after rrit’s claim was challenged.

No one heard it.

That was how I knew.

Sound would have been simple. A ring, an alarm, a scream through the simulation. Instead, the air in the central courtyard thinned. The warning thread around my wrist tightened. Elara’s root channel whispered in static. The communication strip caught half-syllables from people who were not speaking.

Bell behavior.

Gate Eleven had taught us enough to hate silence.

Elara’s voice ca through first.

"Kael."

She had been stationed near the archive route with Nyx, keeping the black-marked door closed while the rest of us handled Gold Hall and Piety pressure. She almost never used my na without reason.

"What changed?"

"The root marker is repeating nas."

My blood went cold.

"Which nas?"

A pause.

Then Elara answered.

"rrit. Ren. Seraphina. Sera.

The na Sera struck differently from the others.

rrit was a witness. Ren was a witness made visible. Seraphina was rcy under attack. Sera was a grave soone had tried to make useful.

The bell did not care.

That was what made it obscene.

It treated living children, injured friends, saintess candidates, and dead girls as equal notes in the sa hungry chord. Grief, testimony, bloodline, and trust beca soundless hooks.

Gate Eleven had rung bells to erase.

This one listened so it could learn where erasure would hurt most."

The courtyard tilted.

Not physically.

Worse.

aningfully.

The unauthorized bell fragnt had connected the chapel witness, the Support Witness, the saintess, and the dead Valdrake girl whose archive thread had already opened too many doors.

Death Flags loved company.

The Ledger opened.

[Archive bell fragnt active.]

[Listening pattern: na resonance.]

[Linked variables: rrit / Ren Lockwood / Seraphina Seraphel / Seraphine Valdrake.]

[Risk: echo contamination of witness review.]

[Centralization temptation: severe.]

Severe.

Of course.

The chapel review marker flashed across the board.

[Piety Circle challenges rrit claim credibility.]

[Reason: treatnt gratitude, gray twine influence, possible anomaly-linked witness network.]

[Ti until credibility decay: seven minutes.]

Two crises.

One child’s testimony under attack.

One bell fragnt collecting nas connected to that testimony.

The center pull beca almost physical.

If I went to the chapel, I could confront Piety. If I went to the archive, I could monitor the bell. If I moved to either, every observer would treat the crisis as mine.

If I stayed, soone else might bleed.

Trust was a blade.

Today, it had too many edges.

Seraphina’s voice entered the channel.

"I have rrit."

Ren: "I can handle credibility frawork."

Elara: "I can hold archive marker, but not if it speaks through roots."

Nyx: "I can cut shadow resonance. Not nas."

Niko: "I need access to the archive door to test bell interference."

Aiden: "I can split support between chapel and archive for thirty seconds, not longer."

Valeria: "Public framing can only cover one crisis at a ti."

Liora: "Combat support mobile."

Veylan: "Boundary call."

The word struck through the channel.

Boundary.

Everyone stopped.

One breath.

The simulation tir continued.

Six minutes fifty-two seconds.

Veylan’s voice remained hard. "No central move until roles state limits."

Good.

Cruel.

Necessary.

I inhaled.

"Boundary command limit: I cannot personally resolve both without centralizing the exercise around Gate Eleven."

Seraphina answered first.

"dical limit: I can preserve rrit and handle patient consent, but not archive resonance."

Ren: "Evidence limit: I can defend credibility if Valeria supports public language and Caldus supports doctrinal objection."

Valeria: "Accepted."

Caldus, after half a breath: "Accepted."

Elara: "Root limit: I can hold the door closed if Niko gives technical dampening."

Niko: "Accepted, but I need shadow safety."

Nyx: "Accepted."

Aiden: "Support limit: I can bridge both teams if they request in sequence, not simultaneously."

Liora: "I escort between zones and hit anything that becos coercion with teeth."

Veylan: "Then split."

No central commander.

No dramatic speech.

Split.

The decision beca obvious once everyone nad what they could not do.

Funny.

Power often pretended to be the person who could do everything.

Survival preferred knowing where everyone failed.

Teams ford.

Chapel review: Seraphina, Ren, Valeria, Caldus, Aiden partial support.

Archive containnt: Elara, Niko, Nyx, Liora mobile, Aiden partial support.

: central boundary, public challenge if either crisis tried to turn into ownership.

I hated it.

Therefore it was probably right.

The chapel review opened with Yoren smiling like a patient knife.

"rrit’s claim erged after treatnt, reassurance, and contact with gray twine validation," he said. "Piety Circle does not accuse the child. We question influence."

Valeria’s red card rose imdiately.

"Unsupported moral conclusion."

Yoren’s smile held. "We question influence."

Ren, standing with his cane beside rrit’s rest cot, lifted the claim-tier sheet.

"Influence questions are valid as review factors. They do not decay the original claim unless contradiction or coercion evidence appears."

Yoren tilted his head. "And who authored this system?"

Ren did not flinch.

"I proposed it. Gold Hall supported the corrected origin. The board accepted it."

Lucien, from the Gold line, spoke unexpectedly.

"Confird."

Marcell glanced at him.

Lucien did not look away from the chapel.

Good.

A small bridge held.

Yoren shifted. "The child wears gray twine."

Ren nodded. "Rembrance marker. Not allegiance."

"Authenticated by a phrase used by Team Seven."

Valeria smiled. "Incorrect. Authenticated by a public counter-contamination phrase docunted before the exercise."

Caldus added, "And recognized under devotional misuse correction."

Yoren’s eyes sharpened at him.

"Brother Caldus continues to speak from compromised proximity."

Caldus inhaled.

For one second, old obedience rose again.

Then Seraphina said nothing.

She let him choose.

Good.

Painful.

Good.

For now, silence ant survival.

Later, it would an the bell was thinking.

Caldus answered, "My proximity is docunted. Your objection is Tier Three unless tied to evidence."

The board flickered.

[Piety challenge downgraded: interpretation dispute.]

[rrit claim retained pending route evidence.]

The chapel side stabilized.

For now.

The archive side worsened.

Elara’s root marker began repeating nas out loud.

The archive side had no audience close enough to understand the danger.

That made it worse.

Public crises could at least borrow witnesses. The bell worked in thresholds, roots, half-heard channels, and old nas that sounded private until everyone started bleeding from them.

Elara’s hands shook against the root marker, but she did not release it. Niko’s copper tags sparked until his sleeves smoked. Nyx cut shadows nobody else could see.

None of them asked whether the work mattered.

The door was closed.

That was enough.

Not in her voice.

In mine.

"rrit. Ren. Seraphina. Sera."

Niko dropped a copper tag.

"No. Absolutely no. That is not allowed."

Nyx pinned the root shadow.

The na loop distorted.

"rrit. Ren. Seraphina. Sera. Kael."

The warning thread on my wrist tightened so hard it hurt before the delayed pain arrived.

Good.

Bad.

The bell had found my na too.

Elara gasped. "It is pulling through the root."

Niko slamd three copper tags into the archive threshold. "I need consent phrase!"

"Nas are not bait," Nyx said.

The root pulsed.

Not enough.

The bell fragnt whispered again.

This ti, everyone in the channel heard it.

Ask your father.

The line from Gate Eleven.

The line from the Seraphine morial.

The line built to pull .

The central courtyard blurred.

For one second, I saw the archive door not as simulation, but as old stone. A ribbon. A girl’s hand. A Valdrake crest turning black.

My right hand moved.

Not toward the archive physically.

Toward nothing.

Bloodline answer point.

Seraphina’s voice struck through the channel.

"Kael. Boundary."

Na.

Command.

Trust.

I stopped.

Barely.

"Hand response," I said. "Bloodline pull. No Null Touch activation. Warning thread active."

Ren’s voice followed, steady despite the chapel pressure.

"Recorded."

Niko shouted from the archive, "If it is using nas as bait, we need nas as refusal!"

Valeria answered, "Phrase?"

Ren spoke.

"Nas are not bait.

For one second, the phrase felt too small.

Nas are not bait.

Four words against a bell fragnt, an archive door, a corrupted scenario, and old Valdrake grief.

Then the voices multiplied.

Small things beca dangerous when enough people held them at the sa ti. A thread beca a rope. A refusal beca doctrine. A frightened phrase beca a wall made of mouths.

The bell had wanted one answer.

It received many."

The phrase traveled through every communication strip.

Seraphina repeated it in the chapel.

Caldus repeated it.

Aiden repeated it, light spreading.

Liora repeated it while drawing her sword.

Elara whispered it into the roots.

Nyx carved it into the shadow with her knife.

Niko tied the copper tags together and shouted it like math had hurt his feelings.

The archive bell fragnt pulsed.

The na loop broke.

The door shook.

The board flickered violently.

[Unauthorized resonance resisted.]

[Archive bell fragnt containnt: partial.]

[Public phrase integrity increased.]

[Centralization attempt failed.]

In the observation tier, Malcris stood very still.

Good.

Let him stand.

Let him calculate.

Let him wonder whether a phrase built by frightened witnesses could hold against old bells.

The archive door stopped moving.

A phrase could not seal the bell forever.

Everyone knew that.

The counterphrase had beco a wall, but walls taught attackers where to strike next. The bell had already learned nas, then sequence, then attention. It would learn rhythm soon. Maybe absence. Maybe hesitation.

That was why the victory felt cold.

Not false.

Temporary.

Temporary was still worth defending when people stood behind it.

Elara collapsed to one knee.

Liora caught her.

Nyx stayed at the shadow.

Niko lay flat on the ground, holding the copper tags against the threshold with both hands.

"Still hate this," he said.

"Effective," Elara whispered.

"That is why I hate it."

The chapel review concluded seconds later.

[rrit claim retained.]

[Piety objection downgraded.]

[Route evidence required before final scoring.]

[Moral-control penalty applied.]

Yoren’s expression remained serene.

His eyes did not.

The first real damage had landed.

Not enough.

Never enough.

The Ledger opened.

[Archive bell listened and failed to centralize.]

[Nas are not bait: strengthened into resonance counterphrase.]

[rrit claim preserved.]

[Caldus doctrinal independence increased.]

[Elara/Niko/Nyx archive containnt successful.]

[Kael bloodline answer point resisted through boundary call.]

[Malcris interest intensified.]

A final line appeared.

[Warning: hidden bell may adapt by targeting the phrase itself.]

Of course.

Every shield taught the enemy its shape.

I looked toward the chapel, where Seraphina stood beside rrit.

Then toward the archive, where Elara still knelt near the sealed door.

The map had tried to make one na answer for everyone.

Everyone had answered with a sentence instead.

Nas are not bait.

For now, the bell listened.

For now, it did not get to eat.

The bell had learned attention. Attention had learned witnesses. Neither lesson would stay harmless for long.

Elara described the bell’s listening afterward, because Niko demanded technical language and imdiately regretted getting it.

"It does not hear sound," she said, one palm still pressed to the root-darkened floor. "It hears attention."

Niko stared. "That is worse."

"Yes."

"Can attention be insulated?"

Elara looked at him.

He sighed. "That was hope speaking."

The bell fragnt had reacted when rrit’s claim beca contested, when Ren’s role beca necessary, when Seraphina’s rcy beca public, when my na almost answered the old Valdrake hook. It did not need a mouth. It needed importance.

Valeria’s voice over the channel was grim.

"Then every public crisis feeds it."

"Or teaches it where to bite," Nyx added.

The archive door remained shut

The archive door remained closed, but the room no longer trusted closed things. That was the lesson again., black marker glowing.

For now.

No one said those words.

Everyone thought them.

The phrase returning from multiple mouths changed sothing in the observation tier too.

Students who had treated gray twine as Obsidian sentint heard Gold Hall and Church voices repeat the sa words. Lucien. Caldus. Even Draven, unwilling and irritated, had said them.

A phrase beca harder to isolate once enemies used it correctly.

Yoren understood that.

Marcell understood faster.

Malcris understood first.

That was why his smile disappeared.

Not because the bell failed.

Because the counterasure had stopped belonging to Team Seven.

Nas are not bait had beco public infrastructure.

And public infrastructure was harder to assassinate than a person.

Not impossible.

Harder.

The archive bell stayed silent after that. Silent did not an defeated. Silent ant listening for a better door.

Elara refused to leave the archive door after the phrase restored.

Seraphina wanted her checked.

Niko wanted her away from the listening roots.

Liora offered to carry her.

Elara said no to all three with the quiet certainty of soone who had just felt an old hunger learn her pathways.

"I can rest with one hand on the door," she said.

"That is not rest," Niko argued.

"It is Thornécroft rest."

"Your family has terrible definitions."

"Yes."

That ended the argunt badly because everyone agreed.

Elara leaned against the wall, pale but upright, and placed the root vial on the threshold. The root inside glowed faintly green again. Not healthy. Not dying. Watching.

Nyx crouched beside her.

"I can stay," the assassin said.

Elara looked surprised.

"Why?"

Nyx stared at the sealed archive.

"Because if a bell eats attention, soone should watch who is already good at being unnoticed."

Elara accepted that.

Another thread tied itself without asking .

Good.
