"Also, I don’t have enough money to buy an expensive gift, so I was hoping to borrow so from you."
"Normally, spending Yan Fengchi’s money is no big deal, but when it cos to buying a birthday gift for his mom, I feel like I have to pay for it myself in situations like this. Otherwise, if people find out, they’d gossip behind my back."
Chenxing nodded as if realizing sothing: "That’s true. I’ll give you my card in a bit, but you’ll have to choose the gift yourself. I don’t really know what you should pick."
Luo Xi felt a bit of a headache coming on: "Why don’t you ask soone who knows better? I think your butler is really good at this sort of thing."
"The butler does know a lot. I’ll go find him right now and ask for you."
Chenxing blinked her sparkling eyes, and Luo Xi observed her, thinking to herself, that’s just the response I was waiting for. She smiled, "Hurry up, then. Don’t keep waiting."
With that, she headed into the house to find Yan Fengchi.
After Chenxing ca back with the answers, the two won huddled together, whispering back and forth. Luo Xi gave her a grateful look. Chenxing went to her bedroom, retrieved her credit card, and handed it over to Luo Xi, all while excitedly recounting how she and Nan Baihao played a prank on Gu Shaocheng that morning. Then, she detailed how Gu Shaocheng managed to outwit both her and everyone else.
The conversation carried on until it was ti for lunch.
There were quite a lot of people at the dining table today, even bodyguards who usually wouldn’t get a seat had all taken their places.
Gu Shaocheng was in an incredibly joyous mood. During the al, he kept piling food onto his "hero’s" plate.
By the ti the al was over, he barely ate a few bites himself. For most of it, he was entirely focused on feeding his beloved little pregnant wife.
That level of doting—it was as though he wanted to keep her nestled at the very center of his heart.
Chenxing was happy too. The heavy worries that had always weighed on her mind were gone, and she felt an imnse sense of relief. Her mood was so light and carefree now. She frequently touched her belly, completely surrounded by the glow of happiness.
The two of them, so lovey-dovey, made everyone else around them so envious their eyes nearly popped out.
It was a palpable sense of love, radiating across the entire dining table.
After the al, Tian Buyu and a few doctors ca by to handle routine matters. They brought a file on the latest update to soone’s health condition. Gu Shaocheng, sitting in his wheelchair, turned the pages slowly. Though he couldn’t really understand the technical jargon, soone beside him naturally translated it: "Sir, with our latest dication, it is unmistakable that your condition has been brought under control. We are now certain that this drug can completely prevent further deterioration of your condition!"
Gu Shaocheng nodded. "I understand that part, but what about my legs? When will I be able to stand up again?"
Recently, the dication had helped alleviate his physical pain, so he already knew the drug was effective.
In the past, he often endured sleepless nights because of the unbearable pain. Even sleeping pills hadn’t worked. But after using this latest dication developed by the researchers, his nightti pain had eased sowhat—though only just a little.
Tian Buyu explained, "Unfortunately, while the drug can prevent further degeneration in undamaged neurons, it has no effect on neurons that are already damaged or dead."
"So, what you’re saying is that there’s still no solution to treat my legs?"
Tian Buyu regretfully shook his head.
Not a single person in the room said a word.
A sense of dejection spread across the room like a heavy fog.
Chenxing walked over to Gu Shaocheng, offering comfort and reassurance. "It’s alright, Shaocheng. Let’s give the experts more ti. At least now, knowing that the disease won’t keep worsening is already incredible news for us, isn’t it?"
