With vacant eyes, she stared at the tombstone before her. It bore the na of a man she did not recognize. Imdiately after, she glared bitterly at Gu Shaocheng’s receding figure, her heart feeling as dead as ever. She scread at him, "Gu Shaocheng, why have you brought here?"
Gu Shaocheng turned to face her, gazing into her lifeless eyes, with a sharp pang in his heart.
Just a day before, those eyes sparkled like the most beautiful pearls in the world. In just a short day, they had lost all their luster, resembling a burnt-out lamp.
But just a day ago, she had regarded him as the only pillar of her life. In the blink of an eye, he had caused her world to co crashing down, hadn’t he?
Gu Shaocheng, if you are going to ruin my life like this, then why are you trying to console ?
Do you think I care about your sympathy?
Chenxing clenched her teeth, staring at him with deep-seated hatred.
Gu Shaocheng disregarded the hatred in her eyes, standing quietly there, staring at the figure on the gravestone with an expression of deep respect. "Kneel down before the man on that tombstone, pay him respects. He is your biological father," he declared.
Chenxing glanced at the tombstone tremblingly, then turned her head away in anger, clamping her lips tightly, not uttering a word.
He knew she wouldn’t be able to accept it right away, so he spoke slowly, his voice echoing with deep sorrow, as if reliving a mory.
"Your real father was Zhou Heyang. He left this world fourteen years ago. You are now eighteen years old, and for fourteen long years, he never heard you call him ’father.’ If you call him now, his spirit will be at peace."
Chenxing bit her lower lip. No, she didn’t believe any of it, not a single word.
The man on the gravestone was a stranger to her. He had no connection to her whatsoever!
Her parents’ grave wasn’t this one. She herself had placed her father’s ashes in the grave, not this one! Barely containing herself, she scread at him, "You’re lying, you deceiver! Murderer! I won’t believe a word of what you’re saying!"
Gu Shaocheng looked at the girl in front of him, agitated and on the verge of losing control, and continued.
"I was an illegitimate child, and lived in a small mansion in the outskirts. Your father was my driver, and he took to and from school. You used to cling to people when you were little and often followed him around. You were always dirty, with snot running down your nose. I didn’t like you much. Once you got snot on my howork, and I made you kneel in the snow for three hours. You were only three or four then, and probably don’t rember."
"Fifteen years ago, my father traveled to Arica for a risky business deal and unfortunately died. He left a considerable fortune. Lawyers ca to our house to handle the transfer of inheritance but my stepfather coveted this money. The old saying goes ’n die for wealth; birds die for food.’ I won’t go into detail about those filthy old matters..." Gu Shaocheng paused to calm his surging emotions before continuing, "My stepfather wanted dead so that my mother would inherit the money, and thus he could hoard the huge inheritance left to by my father. He quietly used many despicable ans to harm ."
