"Chenxing, where are you, Chenxing?"
Gu Shaocheng was bent over the water, frantically shouting in Mandarin till his throat beca hoarse, inadvertently swallowing a few gulps of the filthy river water, "Chenxing!!! Chenxing!!!! Where are you?!!!!!!!"
Why couldn’t he see Chenxing? It seed like all the people who had fallen into the water were rescued.
He swam over to those who were saved and hoisted onto the rubber boats, forcibly turning their heads to look at their faces.
Not Chenxing!
Still not Chenxing!
Again, not Chenxing!
Where was Chenxing?!
Soone nearby was shouting, "Have all the people who fell into the water been saved?"
"Has everyone been saved? Is anyone still missing?"
"Everyone, be sure to look around, see if all those around you are accounted for?"
A soldier with a blue helt was loudly questioning this. Gu Shaocheng clambered onto the boat, his voice barely a whisper. Most people just noticed a man with yellow skin speaking slow, trembling English, "A Chinese girl, a nurse, in a white nurse’s uniform, fell...into the water, hasn’t co ashore, has she been rescued?"
"A nurse?" The soldier froze, then after a mont of thought, he got it. He pointed to another rubber boat five ters away, saying, "Is it her?"
There was surprisingly a nurse sitting in the rubber boat which was facing away from them. Her white nurse uniform was soaked yellow by the river water. Judging by her figure, she looked like the girl he had seen earlier.
Gu Shaocheng’s heart skipped a beat. The next thing anyone knew, he had jumped into the water and was swimming against the current towards that boat.
She’s fine!
She made it. She’s really been rescued!
She was less than five ters from him!
How could he describe his feelings at this very mont?
It felt like he had been through countless hardships, like he had survived a doomsday disaster, and at last, it was spring and the flowers were blooming. He had received God’s grace.
He was standing behind her. Could she feel his emotions at this mont?
Just now...he had almost thought she was being swept away by the river from his world!
Gu Shaocheng reached out his hand. His arm was shaking. His pale lips parted slightly. His voice slowly cleared his throat from deep within his heart and slowly ca out of his mouth, "Chen...xing?"
Just then, the nurse took off her cap, and a head of wet blonde hair cascaded down. At that mont, her wet hair swished across her back, wetting Gu Shaocheng’s face.
The hand that was about to touch her body froze mid-air. His face looked as if the world had been shattered before his eyes—utter dread and sorrow. The joyful heart fell rapidly.
In that mont, Gu Shaocheng finally realized that he had mistaken the person.
As expected, the next second, the nurse turned around. A blue-eyed, high-nosed white woman looked at him strangely and asked, "Are you okay?"
A trendous letdown. How could anyone’s heart withstand such a vast discrepancy? First, he thought his woman had fallen into the water. He swam over in exhaustion to save her, watching as person after person was rescued from the water, his heart slowly lifted from the bottom of the pit, only to continuously fall because he couldn’t find the familiar figure; then, pointing at the back of a nurse, his heart once again leapt to the highest, only to fall back into the negatives the mont that nurse took off her hat and turned around.
