When he stayed silent with a cool expression, it was particularly terrifying, carrying a chilling air of intimidation that made people afraid to defy him.
She braced herself, took a deep breath, and called over again,"I’m back."
"And you know to co back?"
Gu Shaocheng flicked off a cigarette butt, lightly pinching the cigarette in his hand in the ashtray.
"Where have you been today, staying out that late?" He said, his face expressionless, his whole countenance cloaked in a thin layer of mist.
The amber colored eyes on his handso face held a hint of a hunter’s intensity.
It was as though he’d been lying in wait for this mont all along, waiting for Chenxing’s return.
Chenxing’s heart was pounding, but she forced calm upon herself, constantly encouraging herself: Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. We’ve got the trick. Stay calm. We’ll sort him out, distract him so he won’t scold her!
But as brave as she pretended to be, there wasn’t a fear in the world that she wouldn’t dare calculate against him.
She always felt that her cousin’s advice was unreliable, and she was unable to act upon it.
Especially when he was acting so cold.
"Say it." His tone was flat, tinged with a hint of displeasure that Chenxing could clearly perceive.
She bit her lower lip hesitatingly, stamring, "I went shopping, I bought so girly stuff. I lost track of ti; I didn’t realize it had gotten so late."
"Just shopping? You didn’t go anywhere else you weren’t supposed to go?"
Chenxing neither dared to lie nor dared to admit the truth, she rely pursed her lips and lowered her head in silence. She was wrestling with herself, contemplating whether to follow her cousin’s advice.
"Don’t want to say it?" Gu Shaocheng let out a slight sigh, his voice devoid of any discernible emotion, "Put your things down and co here."
She didn’t dare. She put her belongings down.
But her legs were retreating unconsciously, her voice stuttering, "Shao...Shaocheng, there’s...there’s more."
"What more is there? Spit it out!"
"I went out shopping with...with my cousin in the afternoon...we learned... learned a dance. I can... I can show you, okay? My cousin says... says I have talent..."
Before Gu Shaocheng could reply, she gritted her teeth and started to take off her jacket. Her hands trembled violently as she unbuttoned; she was far from the charming girl she had been during practice that afternoon. She began to shiver uncontrollably.
She was unbelievably nervous, her heart ready to leap out of her throat.
All at once she thought perhaps it was better to be honest with him rather than go through with this plan.
But her cousin and Huanhuan’s urging was fresh in her ears; they’d said this was the best way. So for now, she decided to trust them. She took another deep breath, keeping calm as she unbuttoned her jacket.
She twisted her small, stiff waist awkwardly and took awkward cat-like steps towards Gu Shaocheng.
Gu Shaocheng sat there casually, swallowing back the harsh words he’d planned to utter. With his gaze steady on her, unblinking, he was curious to know what kind of trick she was planning to pull having suddenly unbuttoned her shirt.
"What dance? Show , I’ll evaluate it." He shifted slightly in his seat, acting along lazily and feigning curiosity as he asked.
But inside, he scoffed. Trying to outsmart him? Did this naughty girl commit so error and now she was trying to make up for it?
