Chenxing was startled.
"Can you?"
He responded with a question, "What do you think?"
"You don’t know how to, do you?" She asked tentatively.
Her cautious, probing tone made Gu Shaocheng burst into laughter. He lightly tapped her head, and jokingly threatened, "If the porridge you cook doesn’t suit my taste, I might just sell you away!"
He was clearly trying to scare her!
Chenxing humd her way to the kitchen. She felt incredibly happy as she humd a tune and washed the tomatoes.
She was accompanied by soone in the kitchen who wanted to help, and it reminded her of the ti when she had just joined the Gu family. She had cut her hand in the kitchen and he had exploded in rage. She felt terrified then, seeing him as an imposing figure who wouldn’t tolerate any disobedience.
Looking back now, Chenxing truly understood that he genuinely cared for her and wouldn’t tolerate her being wronged. She scolded herself for realizing this so late: "So silly."
But was she really silly?
The sudden intrusion of a man into her life left her in constant panic. She was cautious every day. Every ti he was kind to her, she worried that it was one day less of his kindness. She feared becoming dependent on him, afraid that all the kindness would suddenly disappear soday, leaving her deeply hurt.
"What’s making you so happy?"
Her thoughts were interrupted when soone ca into the kitchen and snatched a freshly washed tomato from the sink. They bit it with a crisp sound, thoroughly enjoying it.
The servants watched in amusent, Chenxing gave him a look, "Why are you eating my cleaned tomatoes? Oh right, has Shaocheng woken up? Have you seen him?"
"Brother is having a tantrum. I managed to escape into safety thanks to my fast feet."
What? A tantrum? Wasn’t he fine just a mont ago? Chenxing looked up, "What happened?"
Suddenly worried, she quickly wiped her hands dry, "I’m going to check on him."
"Hey, sister-in-law, don’t go."
Hua Hua chased after her.
Just as they were about to reach the door, Hua Hua quickly put his arm around her waist and pulled her back, hiding behind the door. He made a shushing gesture, then lightly knocked on her head, "Are you silly? He’s mad right now. We should avoid him, not walk right into the danger."
Chenxing urgently said, "He just recovered from a serious illness. I’m afraid his temper will harm his health."
Hua Hua still scolded her as a fool, "This kind of anger is different from what you think. He won’t be really angry and harm himself, it would only harm others."
Are there many types of anger?
Chenxing peeked through the door crack, and saw a line of well-dressed subordinates of the Gu family standing in the bedroom. The aura and scene were quite imposing. Chenxing had always found the sentinels in their ho to be quite grand, no less than the officers and soldiers in the army.
As they stood in front of Gu Shaocheng, they showed total submission.
Suddenly, Gu Shaocheng threw the file in his hand to the ground. He did not speak, just leaned against his bed, face expressionless. With one glance, one posture, the room beca so quiet that the drop of a pin could be heard.
The aura of authority without anger made Chenxing’s heart flutter, even from behind the door.
