There’s a saying that states, no one knows a daughter better than her own mother.
Jingru gave a light laugh: "It’s strange. Jiajia used to be away from most of the ti, but I never felt as worried as I do now. Wuqing has never taken care of a child before; I always worry Jiajia might not get used to living there."
As she spoke, a juvenile voice suddenly ca in the distance: "Mommy, Mommy, I’m back, Mommy..."
Jingru seed confused: "Did I just hear Jiajia’s voice?"
Mother: "I think I heard it too. It was Jiajia’s voice, it seed to be coming from the entrance. I’ll go and see."
Next, a little figure ran in from the door and threw himself into her embrace. He clung onto her leg, his little mouth slightly pursed. Jingru picked him up and imdiately noticed the sadness in the little one’s eyes. "Why are you back? Did you co back alone?"
Bai Wuqing followed behind and entered the room with several gift boxes. He greeted as he walked in: "Dad, Mom, I’m here with Jiajia to wish you happy new year."
Even though they were not married, let alone engaged, since they had Jiajia, Wuqing’s reference to Jingru’s parents felt natural. Jingru’s parents had no objections and welcod him with laughs and open arms.
Little Jiajia looked at Bai Wuqing and turned his head away with a scoff, clinging onto Mommy. "Mommy, don’t leave Jiajia alone far away. Jiajia doesn’t want to be separated from Mommy. He also doesn’t want to live with that man."
"What happened?"
The little one’s nose twitched as he ranted, "He hit , he doesn’t like . Jiajia doesn’t want to live with him."
"What about grandma and grandpa?"
ntioning Grandma and Grandpa, Little Jiajia’s face lit up. He pulled a few red envelopes from his pocket and proudly announced,"This one is from Grandpa, this one is from Grandma, this one is from uncle, this one is from aunt... Grandpa also taught how to write with a brush. Grandpa’s calligraphy is so nice..."
Jingru patted his head and kissed his forehead. "Have you eaten yet?"
Bai Jiajia pursed his mouth and rubbed his belly, "So hungry... Mommy, don’t talk to that man. We won’t talk to him anymore."
Jingru bead and took him to the kitchen, seeing what food she could get for him.
Bai Wuqing watched as their figures vanished. With his future in-laws’ ardently entertaining him, he couldn’t easily leave the room. There were other relatives of Jingru’s family present, which left him no other choice but to suppress his temper and make small talk.
After about half an hour, he found an excuse to stride into the kitchen only to find it empty. Upon hearing that they had gone to the bedroom, he rushed up the stairs, reaching Jingru’s bedroom door and knocked.
Seeing Wuqing through the door crack, Jiajia imdiately tiptoed to bolt the door from the inside.
While munching on snacks, he patted his bum in defiance. Humph!
"Jingru, open the door."
"Jingru, let’s talk."
They’d been in a cold war for many days. Bai Wuqing wanted to take this opportunity to have a calm discussion with her. They were both heated in the mont and didn’t listen to each other. Now, with cooler heads, it’s ti to address the issues.
"Mommy, I don’t like him." Bai Jiajia sat on Jingru’s lap, still visibly upset.
Jingru playfully tweaked his little nose, "He is your daddy, Jiajia. You can’t talk like that."
"Does Mommy love him?"
"Mmhmm."
