He thought, would it be better to confess voluntarily and wait for the verdict than to anxiously deny culpability and wait for others to condemn him?
But he couldn’t bear it, fearing that stepping out of the car would bring forth a death sentence!
Ti slipped from six o’clock to seven, then from seven to eight. Human activity was evident around him, and unless he fled driving the car away, he eventually had to face what was coming.
He steeled his heart!
Gu Shaocheng opened the car door and walked into the courtyard.
--------------------------------
Chenxing had already gotten up. As Gu Shaocheng opened the bedroom door, he saw her sitting drowsily on the bed, looking sowhat foolish, lost in thought.
He walked over.
Hearing his footsteps, she absentmindedly looked up, staring at him in a haze.
"Shaocheng."
She called softly, and the next second, she was pulled into an embrace and lifted into his arms.
"You didn’t co ho last night."
The two collapsed onto the tatami mats on the balcony. Chenxing, lying beside him, pressed her slender fingers against his body, slightly complaining, "I texted you, but you didn’t reply."
"Yes," he had drunk too much last night, fallen asleep, and hadn’t been able to reply to her ssages. He had checked his phone in the morning but was afraid to disturb her sweet dreams, so naturally, he hadn’t replied to her ssages.
After a mont’s thought, he explained, "I drank a bit too much last night, stayed over at Little Five’s place. Did you wait up for ? I’m sorry, I’ll text you next ti if I’m not coming ho."
Holding her hand tightly, he gazed firmly at her, his body taut with slight tension, "Chenxing, there’s sothing I need to tell you."
"I have sothing to tell you too," she had thought through the night.
Gu Shaocheng’s heart skipped a beat, he took a deep breath and softly said, "Alright, you go first."
But Chenxing shook her head, "You go first."
At that mont, neither of them spoke, just quietly looking at each other. Normally, there would be no need for such hesitation. Gu Shaocheng’s entire back tensed, he subconsciously stared into her eyes as if trying to see sothing in them, his heart tightening slightly, guessing that she might be questioning him about why he hid his illness and then planning to leave him.
In fact, Chenxing really wanted to tell him that she knew about his sickness and wanted to face it with him; she just hoped that he would never push her away again.
Both harbored their personal concerns, their gazes holding difficult-to-discern flashes of light.
For a mont, only the sound of each other’s erratic heartbeats could be heard, clearly narrating their nervousness.
But neither knew what the other was nervous about.
Just guessing led to an even more eerie and tense atmosphere.
"Chenxing, when I ca ho yesterday, I found............"
He had barely started speaking when the abrupt ring of a cellphone cut him off. Gu Shaocheng, already short of courage, felt that his bit of bravery completely scatter at the sound, hurriedly digging out his phone to answer the call.
Nan Baihao’s voice, always loud.
"Bro, haven’t you woken up yet? Still at Hua Hua’s place?"
"What’s up?"
"Didn’t we agree to go to India today? The flight is at nine this morning. I’m calling to remind you, in case you haven’t woken up yet. Ti to get up."
