###Chapter 47: Pregnant
Nina Wainwright’s test results ca back in less than half an hour. The doctor gave her so dication to support the pregnancy, and once she felt a little better, the doctor sighed and said, "You were taking birth control pills before, weren’t you? This pregnancy is unstable, and you’ve lost a lot of blood today. Co back tomorrow when you’re feeling a bit stronger for an injection to help stabilize it."
The doctor’s words plunged Nina into despair.
’So I’m really pregnant...’ A doctor helped her sit up. She took the lab report, her voice weak. "Could you please not tell anyone I’m pregnant? I want to keep it a secret."
"Are you married?" the doctor asked with concern.
Nina clutched the report tightly, the light gone from her eyes. "I am, but... the woman my husband loves is pregnant, too."
From the very beginning, Zachary Hawthorne had never wanted her to get pregnant and have his child.
That was why she had always taken the pill and he had always used a condom; there had never been a single slip-up. But that one ti, she had been too distraught and had forgotten her pill. ’If Zachary finds out,’ she thought, ’he’ll definitely make get rid of this baby.’
But Nina wanted this child.
It had nothing to do with Zachary. This was a dream she had always cherished for herself.
Even if Zachary didn’t want it... she would secretly give birth to the child.
She knew that after she divorced Zachary, she would never fall in love or marry again.
That was why she had to protect this child.
Hearing this, the doctor sighed softly. "Unless your family asks us directly, we won’t say a word. You can rest assured."
After thanking the doctor, Nina left the obstetrics departnt with her lab report. She saw Adrian Pemberton sitting on a chair, looking utterly dejected. She froze for a second, then told herself she was reading too much into it. She called out to him as usual, "Adrian, if you’re busy, you don’t have to wait for ."
Adrian looked up.
Though the forlorn look in his eyes hadn’t faded, he quickly stood up and managed a smile. "I’m not busy. How did the tests go?"
"I’m pregnant, but I hope you can keep it a secret for ." Nina trusted him completely.
A look of shock crossed Adrian’s face. "You’re not planning to tell him? How will you raise a child on your own?"
"But I can’t get an abortion..." Nina looked at him, her expression pained.
She had already resigned herself to being alone. Once she divorced Zachary, she would take the child and leave.
’With a child, at least I won’t be so lonely.’
Adrian stared at her intently for a long mont before his voice grew hoarse. "He doesn’t want the child?"
Nina bit her lip, not saying a word.
Disappointnt filled Adrian’s eyes. "He doesn’t want the child, yet you insist on having it. Why are you putting yourself through this?"
"I’m never going to marry again, so I want to have a child to keep company." Because she thought of him as a dear brother, Nina spoke without holding back.
Hearing this, Adrian couldn’t help but give a wry smile. "Is that right?"
"Yes. I’m not feeling well... I think I’ll head ho and rest." As she spoke, she couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh.
"Let take you ho," Adrian said, still worried about her.
Nina gently shook her head. "No, really. Adrian, you should get back to your own business. I’ll be fine."
Seeing her insist, Adrian could only nod. "Alright. Be careful on your way ho."
After she left, Adrian went into the obstetrics departnt anyway.
The head of the obstetrics departnt was familiar with him and knew what he was there for the mont she saw him.
"The woman is married. What are you always pining after her for? Don’t ask anything. She asked for confidentiality," the departnt head said sternly.
Adrian’s voice was tinged with disappointnt. "I already know she’s pregnant."
The departnt head was taken aback for a second. "It seems you two are close. What do you want to ask?"
"What’s her specific condition?" Adrian asked quietly.
"Miss Wainwright’s pregnancy is high-risk, and she’s experiencing major emotional fluctuations. She’s also taken a lot of birth control pills in the past. If she wants to keep the baby, she’ll have to take extrely good care of herself and avoid any kind of injury. Since you’re close to her, you should consider convincing her to be admitted to the hospital," said the departnt head.
Adrian’s expression grew grave. "Is it that serious? I’ll try to talk to her."
"It would be best for her to be hospitalized; otherwise, she could easily miscarry. Also, her husband is keeping a mistress, so she’s likely not in a good emotional state. As her friend, you should try to comfort and support her." The doctor really shouldn’t have said so much.
But she only ntioned it because she knew Adrian was friends with Nina, and she and Adrian were also acquainted.
"Okay." Adrian felt Nina’s situation was indeed a difficult one.
"By the way, if she were to miscarry, would it be difficult for her to get pregnant again?" Deep down, Adrian still hoped Nina would choose not to go through with this pregnancy.
"She’s taken a lot of dication. In theory, yes, it would be much more difficult next ti, but not impossible. My recomndation is still to try and save this pregnancy," the doctor answered.
Adrian acknowledged this with a quiet hum. "I see."
anwhile, Nina arrived ho, utterly exhausted. As she headed upstairs, she told a housemaid, "Don’t disturb unless it’s important. I need to rest."
She had just lain down in her room when she got a call from Sandra Walsh.
She answered, her voice weary. "Sandra."
"Have you spoken with Zachary?" Sandra’s voice was full of anticipation.
"I’m not feeling well, so I don’t think I’ll be able to make it. Sandra, I’m so sorry. I really wanted to help, but there’s nothing I can do..." Nina’s voice was filled with apology.
’I wanted to go so badly,’ she thought, ’but now that I’m pregnant, it’s impossible.’
Sandra sighed. "Why won’t he let you do anything? This can’t go on, Nina. If you’re always walking on eggshells around him, your life is going to be miserable."
"Besides, talent is sothing you use or lose."
Nina was well aware that she was missing out on a golden opportunity.
Her voice catching in her throat, she said, "Sandra, I’m pregnant. Please don’t tell anyone. I’m only telling you."
The pregnancy made it utterly impossible.
Sandra sighed again. "Just focus on a healthy pregnancy. Everything will be fine."
Nina felt very sorry. "I really did want to co. I never expected to get pregnant."
"It’s alright, I understand," Sandra said, finishing with another soft sigh.
After hanging up, the lost opportunity made Nina reconsider her decision about the baby.
But even if she agreed to take the job now and terminated the pregnancy, her body wouldn’t recover instantly. No matter what, she had to give up this work opportunity.
Lying in bed, she drifted into a hazy sleep.
When she woke up, it was almost dawn again.
She checked the ti. It was already five in the morning, and the air outside had grown cool.
Nina stared blankly into space for a while before getting up and taking a shower. She noticed she was still bleeding. It wasn’t as much as the day before, but she still had a sinking feeling.
After breakfast, she waited for the clinic to open, planning to go in for a check-up.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Adrian.
