###Chapter 54: Only He Was Allowed to Be Jealous
He felt he had been patient enough with Nina.
Even after she’d been making a scene for so long, and had co here alone in a foul mood, he still ca to keep her company.
Nina sighed. "No, I just have a bit of insomnia. Maybe it’s because there’s nothing to do here all day but sleep. I’ve slept so much that now I can’t."
Zachary felt like he understood her less and less.
She used to be so simple. She loved him, and she showed it so obviously. Her affection was so abundant that he could feel it without even trying.
Zachary turned her to face him. "If you’re really this upset, I’ll find a therapist for you."
"There’s no need. It’s not that serious. You’re tired too. Let’s just go to sleep." Nina didn’t want to dwell on the subject.
’She was just in a bad mood right now; it wasn’t serious enough to see a therapist.’
Zachary pulled her into his arms.
The next morning, Nina, who had barely slept, woke up early. She planned to see Adrian’s grandmother to check on the baby.
The day she arrived, Grandma Pemberton had given her acupuncture to stabilize the pregnancy. Today was a follow-up.
Grandma Pemberton still didn’t know what had happened to Adrian. When Nina saw her practicing Tai Chi in the courtyard, a wave of guilt washed over her. "Grandma, you’re up early."
"I am. You’re up early too," Grandma Pemberton said with a smile, continuing her Tai Chi. "But from the looks of you, it seems you didn’t sleep well again. Is it too crowded and noisy for you here?"
Nina sat down on a nearby chair, a faint smile touching her lips. "No, I just slept too much during the day, so I couldn’t fall asleep at night."
"That’s not good," Grandma Pemberton said tactfully. She understood that Nina’s pregnancy had to be kept secret and didn’t press the matter.
Nina leaned back in her chair and breathed in the fresh air. "Have you had breakfast yet, Grandma?"
"Not yet. I’ll go after I finish my Tai Chi." Grandma Pemberton’s hair was silver, but she had more vitality than people who’d spent years staying up all night.
Sitting in the chair, Nina started to feel drowsy.
Just as Grandma Pemberton turned to face her, soone suddenly rushed past, bumping hard against her shoulder.
The impact sent Nina falling to her knees, a sharp pain flaring up from them.
Talia Talbot, who had been goofing around with Caleb Ford, turned to look at her but made no move to help her up. "Oops, sorry. Didn’t see you there. You can get up on your own."
With that, she ran back to Caleb. "What’s your problem?!" she said, playfully hitting him. "You were the one trying to copy the old lady’s Tai Chi! Don’t bla because you suck at it!"
Grandma Pemberton stopped her Tai Chi, hurried over to Nina, and helped her up. "Are you all right?"
"I’m fine." Nina had instinctively protected her stomach as she fell, bracing herself with her hands, so only her knees were scraped.
Grandma Pemberton glanced at Caleb and Talia, who were still watching from a distance, and lowered her voice. "Those two don’t look right. They seem like trouble. You need to be extrely careful. Didn’t your husband co over? You should stick close to him. He’ll surely protect you and keep you from being bullied."
Nina just smiled.
’Zachary would never care about her.’
’The incident with Luna Sterling at the hospital was still fresh in her mind.’
Grandma Pemberton helped her into her room and closed the door. She gently took Nina’s wrist, feeling her pulse. "There’s no problem. Your pulse is quite normal. But you’re always bottling up your frustrations, and that’s not good for you."
She was being discreet.
The soundproofing at the resort wasn’t good, so she couldn’t speak too openly.
Nina said softly, "I can’t seem to get over it. Maybe I’ll only feel this weight lift from my chest when I can truly let go."
"Sigh..." Grandma Pemberton sighed and had her sit down.
After giving her an acupuncture treatnt to stabilize the pregnancy, she removed the needles and said in a low voice, "I really shouldn’t be treating you. But that boy, Adrian, he nagged about it for a whole day. I was afraid he’d never stop."
At the ntion of Adrian’s na, Nina’s eyes began to sting.
"If soone’s hand was injured... nerve damage... is there any way to heal it?" she couldn’t help but ask.
"Nerve damage in the hand isn’t so easy to treat," Grandma Pemberton said softly. "The person would need surgery. If they find a good surgeon, maybe they’ll recover after one or two procedures. If not... it could take a very long ti."
Nina said nothing more.
After leaving Grandma Pemberton, she returned to her room to find Zachary sitting by the window, his face grim and his expression dark.
As she closed the door, he asked coolly, "Off so early to suck up to your childhood sweetheart’s grandmother? Do you really think you have a chance with him?"
Nina walked over to the bed and sat down, picking up the nu from the nightstand. "What do you want for breakfast?"
"I asked you a question," Zachary said, his voice cold.
"His grandmother used to be a doctor," Nina retorted calmly. "I told her I couldn’t sleep and went to ask for her advice. Is there a problem with that?"
This did not appease Zachary. Instead, his lips twisted into a sneer. "So, Adrian is that thoughtful, is he? Worried you’re upset, so he arranged for his doctor grandmother to help you. It seems my coming here was completely pointless."
Nina frowned at him, remaining silent.
"Nothing to say for yourself?" Zachary pressed.
"Whatever I say, you’ll just have a coback for it, won’t you? I don’t know what to say." Nina truly couldn’t understand how he had the nerve to be angry with her.
’He’d taken a call from Luna Sterling last night while they were sitting in the woods, and who knew what they’d talked about... She hadn’t even gotten angry.’
’Yet today, just because she went to see an elder, he was being all sarcastic and accusatory.’
"I don’t like it here," Zachary said bluntly.
"Then pick another place. I’ll go with you." Nina knew Zachary’s temper. If she insisted on staying, she would only end up causing trouble for the two elders.
’She had already brought trouble to Adrian; she couldn’t let the two elders get hurt as well.’
Seeing her agree so readily, without a trace of reluctance, the coldness on Zachary’s face softened slightly. "Fine. I’ll have Silas find us a good place."
Nina murmured her assent, her eyes dropping back to the nu. "What should we eat?"
"In a little while. Silas is bringing breakfast over." Zachary wasn’t used to the food here and had no intention of eating another al from their kitchen.
"You’re going to make the owners feel awkward if you do that," Nina said, putting down the nu and speaking gently. "Why don’t I borrow their kitchen and make sothing for you? And you can let Silas have a break, don’t bother him right now."
’The chef at this resort was an acquaintance, too.’
’For him to so brazenly have food delivered from outside was as good as telling them their cooking was terrible.’
’What a slap in the face to the owners.’
When Zachary heard she was offering to cook for him herself, a smile touched his lips. "All right. I’ll go with you."
Nina stood up, walked to his side, and took his hand, leading him toward the back kitchen.
As they were heading toward the kitchen, a receptionist ca rushing toward the back kitchen and bumped into Nina.
"I’m sorry... I’m so sorry!" the receptionist said, her eyes red. She tried to hurry away after apologizing.
Seeing that sothing was clearly wrong, Nina imdiately asked, "What’s the matter?"
"A guest found a bug in their breakfast! They’re demanding to see the owner, or else they’ll call the health departnt and report the resort," the receptionist explained anxiously.
