###Chapter 82: A Long-Preditated Trap
Nina Wainwright had just gotten ho when she received a call from Luna Sterling.
"Nina, there’s sothing I’d like to discuss with you. Are you free right now?" Luna Sterling asked cautiously.
"Just say what you want to say. I’m very busy." Nina didn’t feel they were that close... yet it seed Luna was determined to cling to her.
"Zach asked us today what else he should prepare for your wedding anniversary. I think he’s such a clueless guy—roses and a candlelight dinner are so outdated. I told him to ask you himself, but he wouldn’t, so I had to call you privately," Luna said, her voice full of helplessness.
Nina could hear the doting affection for Zachary in her voice.
"I was planning for us to have a simple celebration for our anniversary, so you don’t need to go to any trouble. Besides, if he really wanted to prepare sothing, he should have told in advance." Nina truly didn’t understand what that group of people was up to.
And she didn’t understand what Zachary was doing, either.
She had already made it clear they would celebrate at ho, that just mixing him a few drinks to try would be enough... so what was all this about now?
"Nina, don’t misunderstand... It’s just that Zach feels you’ve been unhappy, and he probably wants to make it up to you. The reason I’m telling you now is that I hope you’ll dress up nicely that day. I’ll personally prepare an anniversary surprise for you two, how about that?" Luna’s voice was filled with anticipation.
"You’ll prepare it for us? Why?" Nina asked, completely puzzled.
Luna said, "I really hope you two make up. When Zach is with us, he’s always moping because you’re ignoring him. I like you a lot, and I also really care about Zach as a friend, so I want you both to be happy."
"And that diamond ring Zach bought? He spent over thirty million on it, all to win you back. Zach really, really cares about you," Luna said in a sincere tone.
Nina fell silent.
She really couldn’t figure Luna out, but so far, it seed Luna hadn’t caused her any real harm.
Every ti Caleb Ford and Talia Talbot picked on her, Luna would stop them.
Nina knew the world had no shortage of people like that. Perhaps it was guilt that made them try so hard to make ands.
She didn’t know if she should forgive Zachary, but hearing that he had bought her a thirty-million-dollar ring as an anniversary gift, she inevitably found herself wavering.
’No matter the outco, I’ll go and see what happens.’
"I’ll get ready," Nina said.
"Great! As for a dress and all that, if you have any trouble, you can just tell ," Luna’s voice imdiately colored with delight.
"He’s bought plenty. Thanks," Nina said, politely declining before hanging up.
’Even if I’m going to divorce Zachary, we should at least part on good terms. I should put so heart into our last anniversary.’
「In the blink of an eye, the wedding anniversary arrived.」 Nina took the day off from Leo Larkin and started picking out a suitable dress first thing in the morning... and the heels couldn’t be too high, either, since she was pregnant.
She also bought new makeup that was safe for pregnancy.
The eting ti was four in the afternoon at the hotel Luna had ntioned. Nina got out of the car, holding the hem of her dress.
When she saw Luna Sterling standing at the entrance, dressed even more dazzlingly than she was, she froze for a mont.
The mont Luna saw her, she imdiately ca forward and linked her arm. "I’ve been waiting for you! Let’s go in together."
Nina looked at her. "Are you celebrating with us today?"
"Oh no, this is just my usual attire. If I’d known, you should have told so I could have taken you to get ready. Honestly, Zach... these clothes of yours are all outdated. How about I have soone send over a new outfit for you to change into?" Luna asked as they walked.
"Never mind." Nina didn’t really care.
’It wasn’t like she had any interest in competing with her anyway.’
’Maybe I’m just not worldly enough, and that’s why I think she’s dressed too conspicuously.’
Nina followed her into a large private room at the hotel.
Just as Luna pushed her inside, she noticed the strange way everyone in the room was looking at her.
"Luna, why is she here? Aren’t you the star of the show today? What’s she trying to do, dressing like that?" Talia Talbot imdiately shot her a disdainful look.
Luna, who had just closed the door, simply gave a faint smile. "I invited her."
Nina looked at her, utterly baffled. "What exactly are you playing at?"
"I already told you, didn’t I? Just sit down and wait for a bit. Don’t mind their stares." Luna walked to her side and took her arm again. "Co on. Zach said he’s on his way."
Seeing the cold smirks in Caleb Ford and Talia Talbot’s eyes, Nina still let Luna lead her to the sofa and sat down.
"Didn’t Zach buy her a new dress? Even if you’re trying to steal the show, you should at least wear sothing better," Talia Talbot said sarcastically, then rolled her eyes.
"Alright, have you forgotten what happened last ti? Say a little less. You don’t want her slapping herself again and blaming it on you," Caleb Ford chid in, trying to placate her.
"You two wait here for a bit, and don’t pick on her. I’m going to the entrance to see if Zach has arrived yet." Luna stood up and gave Nina a reassuring look. In a gentle voice, she said, "I’ll be back in a mont. If anything happens, call , and I’ll co right back."
Nina just humd in response.
A bad feeling began to well up inside her.
But since she was already here, she might as well see what this group of people was really up to.
After Luna left, Talia and Caleb ignored her and instead called over the other people in the room to play pool.
Ti ticked by. Nina held her phone; Zachary hadn’t called her once all day. He hadn’t even co ho last night.
The sky gradually darkened. Nina had been sitting idly in the private room for two hours.
The group playing pool over there gradually quieted down.
Caleb Ford led Talia Talbot over to Nina, a smile playing on his lips. "Zach is in the banquet hall upstairs. Are you coming with us, or will you go up by yourself?"
"Get in the elevator, go up one floor, and the banquet hall is to the left when you get out," Talia said coolly, then turned and left.
"Luna and Zach are waiting for you," Caleb added before shoving his hands in his pockets and following Talia out.
One by one, the others left, until Nina was the only one left in the private room.
Nina stood up and straightened her clothes.
She waited for the next elevator.
Inside the elevator, she couldn’t help but look down at her evening gown.
This was the gown Zachary had bought her two years ago. This year... because her parents were insatiably greedy and always asking him for money, he had rarely bought her such things, especially after Luna had returned.
The elevator stopped.
Nina stepped out of the elevator, turned left, and walked toward the banquet hall.
As she walked closer, step by step, she saw that the banquet hall was filled with people, none of whom she recognized.
Reaching the entrance, she saw Zachary Hawthorne and Luna Sterling standing side by side. Luna had her hands pressed together, thanking the guests. And on her finger, she wore an especially beautiful diamond ring.
