I sat in the empty classroom and adjusted my tie, aiming for the perfect impression of a villain waiting for the unsuspecting hero. All I needed was a white cat to stroke while I swiveled dramatically in my chair. Unfortunately, the academy provided standard-issue furniture that didn’t swivel, so I had to settle for leaning against the teacher’s desk with my arms crossed.

The contract ra and I had signed sat on the desk beside . Four pages of legal language designed to keep Cheon quiet about what she’d witnessed. What she’d felt. What I’d done to her in that storage closet.

I checked my phone. Ten minutes since the final bell. Cheon was taking her ti, probably wrestling with her conscience. Her hesitation was good.

Conflict eroded certainty, and I worked best with uncertainty.

A ssage from ra lit up my screen:

She signed it. She’s all yours. Don’t forget to tell EVERYTHING later.

I smiled. ra continued to surprise . Most girls would lose their minds at the prospect of their boyfriend spending ti alone with another woman, especially one he’d already touched intimately. But ra saw the bigger picture. She understood what my ability required. What I needed to survive.

The door handle turned slowly, like whoever stood on the other side debated walking away. Then the door opened, and there she stood.

Cheon Hae-Won. Class Representative. Top practical scores. Perfect attendance record. Light blue hair pulled into that severe ponytail that sohow made her look both professional and hot as hell.

She wore the standard academy uniform with textbook precision—white button-up shirt, navy blazer, black pleated skirt that hit exactly at regulation length. Her stockings were perfectly straight, not a wrinkle in sight. The picture of academic excellence.

Except for her eyes. Those gave her away. Wide, nervous, uncertain. The look of prey sensing a trap but walking into it anyway.

"You’re late," I said.

"I had responsibilities." The door clicked shut behind Cheon with a heavy, final sound. She stood with her back pressed against the wood, bringing the scent of her rain-damp blazer into the stale air of the classroom, thick with the sll of chalk dust and floor wax.

"Your... girlfriend said you wanted to speak with ."

"I see you’ve t ra properly now."

"She made herself quite clear." Cheon’s voice carried a hint of bitterness. "She delivered the contract."

"And you signed it."

"Yes."

"Why?"

The question caught her off guard. She blinked rapidly, her posture stiffening further, which I wouldn’t have thought possible.

"Because I want answers."

"About what happened in the storage room."

Her face flushed pink. "Among other things."

"About what I did to you."

"Yes."

"About how it felt."

Her flush deepened. "This is inappropriate. We’re at school."

"Says the girl who called at one thirty in the morning."

"That was—"

"A mistake. I know. ra answered." I pushed off from the desk and took a step toward her. "Did she scare you?"

"No."

"Liar."

Cheon lifted her chin defiantly. "I’m not afraid of either of you."

"Then why are you still standing against the door?"

She stepped forward, arms crossed over her chest. "I signed your contract. I’m entitled to answers."

"Fair enough." I gestured to a student desk in the front row. "Sit."

Cheon hesitated, then moved to the desk and sat down, back straight, hands folded neatly in her lap. The perfect student waiting for a lecture.

I stayed standing.

"You want to know what I did to you in the storage room."

"Yes."

"I drained your Essentia."

"I know that much." Her eyes narrowed. "My ability lets monitor Essentia signatures. I detected a twenty-three percent drop in my reserves after our... encounter."

"What else did you detect?"

"Three distinct layers in your Essentia. Your baseline signature, ra’s spatial signature, and sothing underneath both that I couldn’t classify."

Clever girl. She’d observed more than I expected.

"And what conclusions did you draw?"

"That you possess so kind of drain or copy ability. That you took sothing from ra through physical contact, the sa way you took sothing from ." Her voice faltered slightly. "But ra’s reserves increased afterward. Mine didn’t."

A blue window suddenly appeared in my vision. The system interface.

[QUEST: THE UNBENDING REED]

► TYPE: CHARACTER CONQUEST

► PRIORITY: CRITICAL

DESCRIPTION

Cheon Hae-Won lives by the book. Every rule, every regulation, every social protocol is a brick in the fortress she has built around herself. Order is her shield. Predictability is her comfort.

The storage closet was a sledgehamr to that foundation. An unauthorized touch. An illogical response. A variable she cannot quantify.

She cos to this classroom seeking answers, ard with logic and reason, attempting to file an experience that defies both. The system has identified this as a critical inflection point. A mind that powerful, bent to a new purpose, is an asset beyond asure. This is not about a contract. It is about a conversion.

OBJECTIVE

❖ MAKE CHEON HAE-WON SUBMIT TO YOUR WILL COMPLETELY

Submission is not about breaking her spirit. It is about convincing her to hand you the leash. She must choose to cede control, acknowledging that your authority offers sothing her rules cannot.

TI LIMIT: 24 HOURS

REWARD

❖ PLATINUM GACHA TICKET x1

❖ [THE STRATEGIST’S LOYALTY]Cheon Hae-Won’s personal victory condition is re-aligned. Her strategic mind will now begin to view your success as her own. She becos your player on the inside.

PENALTY FOR FAILURE

❖ [ENEMY FOR LIFE]

Cheon Hae-Won’s analytical mind will permanently classify you as an uncontrollable threat. She will dedicate her considerable resources and intellect to your systematic removal from Coastline Hero Academy. Every rule will beco a weapon. Every loophole, a trap. The system notes this would be... inconvenient.

[TI LIMIT: 23:59:59]

...ACCEPT? [Y/N]

Two quests in one day? You’re too kind, System.

I hit accept with a thought. The window disappeared, replaced by a tir counting down from 24:00:00.

"You’re right," I said, refocusing on Cheon. "I possess a drain ability. What the NEA calls an Adaptive-Type."

"That’s not what’s registered in the system."

"It is as of this morning."

"Impossible. The registration process takes weeks."

"Not when your father owns Angelo Enterprises."

Her eyes widened slightly. "You falsified your registration."

"I updated it to reflect my actual abilities."

"After using those abilities without authorization."

I smiled. "Which you agreed not to report when you signed the contract. You’re complicit now, Cheon. We’re in this together."

"We are not ’together’."

I moved closer, standing directly in front of her desk. "Then why did you sign? Why not walk away? Why not report the mont you realized what happened?"

Her hands twisted in her lap. "Because I want to understand."

"What I am?"

"Yes."

"What I did to you?"

"Yes."

"Why it felt so good?"

Her breath caught. "That’s not—"

"Don’t lie to ." I leaned down, placing my hands on her desk, bringing my face closer to hers. "I felt every shudder. I heard every sound you made. Your body doesn’t lie, even if your mouth does."

Cheon’s eyes locked with mine. Grey versus my mismatched green and grey. For a mont, I thought she might slap . Instead, she asked a question I didn’t expect.

"Does it always feel like that?"

The vulnerability in her voice caught off guard. The perfect Class Representative, asking if everyone felt the sa pleasure she had when I touched her.

"No," I said honestly. "It’s different for everyone."

"How?"

"Depends on the connection. The compatibility. The person."

"And ? How was I different?"

I studied her face. The high cheekbones. The intelligent eyes. The mouth set in a perpetual line of disapproval that I’d made open in a perfect O of pleasure.

"Yours was feral," I said. "Like putting my hand on a lightning fence. Most people’s Essentia is a current. Yours is a storm looking for a place to break."

Her lips parted slightly. "And that’s... good?"

"It was unexpected."

She looked down at her hands. "You said ra received sothing in return for what you took. An increase in her reserves. Why didn’t I?"

Now we reached the crux of the matter.

"Because you ran."
