360: Chapter 109: Battle is the Best Practice (Part 2)_1 360: Chapter 109: Battle is the Best Practice (Part 2)_1 A cold sneer bloomed at the corner of Ye Yinzhu’s lips as he raised his hand toward the peak in front of them and said, “Climb.” Without any delay, the five hundred men moved at top speed toward the mountaintop.
At this time, the Beastmen on the summit seemed to have made ample preparations.
The scene where Ye Yinzhu had previously chopped trees to stop the enemy replayed before their eyes.
Chopped trees were transformed into rolling logs thundering down the slope, trying to halt the progress of the five hundred warriors.
Unfortunately, the Beastmen at the summit numbered only a hundred.
Years of ease had left them unprepared for a mountain assault, and the logs prepared by the hundred men were far too few.
Moreover, they lacked a Fire Mage to ignite the robust tree trunks.
“I’ll do it,” Oliveira growled.
Clutching his azure heavy sword in both hands, his figure flashed, shooting forward.
The lightness of the Blue Star Battle Armor showed its best effect now.
Azure Douqi flowed through the heavy sword, not recklessly facing the rolling logs head-on but exploiting their momentum to use the sword to leverage and lift them, sending the logs flying over his rades’ heads, continuing downwards toward the base of the mountain.
Oliveira was quick, and his Douqi robust, the strength of a Blue rank Warrior displayed without a doubt.
While the rolling logs slowed the advance of the Milan Warriors, they inflicted no harm; any missed by Oliveira were easily resolved by Ye Yinzhu and Ye Hongyan with a flick of their hands.
No more rolling logs descended from the summit, and by this time, the pitiful hundred defenders had e within the Mage’s attack range.
Fireball Technique landed on the mountaintop without suspense, and with the path cleared by the sea of flames, their way forward was unobstructed.
“Li Sha, help put out the fire,” Ye Yinzhu sent a request for assistance to Li Sha via soul attachment.
Perhaps the defeat by Li Sha last time had changed her mentality; a faint blue light flashed, and a torrential downpour extinguished the flames caused by the Fireball Technique on the mountaintop before Ye Yinzhu’s five hundred could climb up.
“Yin Zhu, why put out the fire?
We could have charged through with our Douqi,” Oliveira said, somewhat puzzled as he looked at Ye Yinzhu.
Ye Yinzhu pointed behind him at the over a thousand Beastmen, who were made a mess by the logs knocked down by Oliveira, “There are over ten mission targets here; don’t you want to plete them, Big Brother?”
Oliveira was startled.
“You want to wipe out all these Beastmen?” With their five hundred elites, exterminating the thousand plus that followed them wasn’t a problem, but it would certainly take time.
For them, deep in enemy territory, time was life.
If they were surrounded by a Beastman Army’s bat formation, it would be a situation with more likelihood of death than survival.
Ye Yinzhu smiled faintly, “I know what Big Brother is worried about, but all you need to do is cut off the ears of those dozen or so Lion Men; then we can continue our advance.” Speaking thus, he did not bother to explain further and simply sat down on the ground.
With a flash of light, the Singing Phoenix Zither was already resting on his knees.
Ye Yinzhu gently stroked the Singing Phoenix Zither’s sides where the inscriptions read, “As the sun rises, the phoenix nest resounds.
With a single string, civilization under heaven shines.” The haggard look on his face seemed to vanish, and bathed in the morning sunlight, his sunny visage carried an air of elegance and lethargy.
Eight fingers plucked the strings, and soft notes flowed with each strum, as if to avoid waking the soul of the zither within.
Though higher in pitch, the notes produced by the Singing Phoenix were more intricately weaved and spiraled than those from any other Ancient Zither, each note seeming to twist in the air until it lost its last vibration before quietly fading away.
Each note was light, twirling with dexterity; the zither music, which should have been uplifting, under the manipulation of Ye Yinzhu’s hands and fingers, weaved a sense of calm and relaxation amidst its spiral.
The mellow rhythm twirled in the chamber, dispelling not just tension but all negative emotions.
It soothed the warriors’ nerves, frayed from the mission and the violence of bat.
Rings of subdued yellow radiance cascaded down from the Singing Phoenix, targeting the Beastmen rapidly approaching the summit.
Although Ye Yinzhu could not control with precision like with the Divine Music Halo when using the Zither Magic on a large scale, he had no issues with general direction.
The warriors and Mages behind him were merely relieving their inner tension to the zither’s music, but the Beastmen climbing the mountain were having a different experience.
Anger and bloodlust eased under the music, and the Beastmen Warriors, despite finding the sudden zither music odd, did not ponder much.
But as the mellow amber tones enveloped them, their movements slowed down.
pletely relaxed in body and spirit to the gentle music, they drifted into the most restful slumber amidst the essential meaning of the zither music: lesser thoughts, lesser desires, lesser words, lesser smiles, lesser sorrows.
Who could prehend the immense power of such gentle melodies?
Watching the Beastmen fall one by one while climbing, not just Oliveira and the Earth Warriors, even the Three Hundred Grim Reaper were taken aback.
What kind of magical ability was this?
Were Divine Music Masters truly so fearsome?
A piece of “Forgetful Machine” concluded amid the clear tones, Ye Yinzhu rose from his zither without a glance at the Beastman pursuers who had fallen into slumber.
Pointing in the direction of the Northernmost Wilderness, he manded, “We set out.” For a team in training, slaughtering defenseless Beastmen offered no benefit; obtaining the Lion Man ears required for the mission was already sufficient.
The most crucial matter was to enter the Northernmost Wilderness as soon as possible.
Ye Yinzhu had never told anyone how powerful he was, nor had he ever offered an explanation; instead, he showed the warriors and mages under his mand through actions that he was a trustworthy Mage with the strength to protect everyone.
After traversing the mountain peak and finally entering the Northernmost Wilderness via the most implausible ravine, it wasn’t to say that crossing the mountain range was more honorable than attacking the Thor Hammer Fort.
The objective of these five hundred people couldn’t be pared with that of a large army.
Had the Milan Empire’s troops e here, they would have been discovered by the Beastmen by now.
Of course, another important factor was that the human nations had never launched an offensive against the Beastmen in the past few hundred years.
The reason was simple: the barren Northernmost Wilderness was not a territory humans desired, and the fierce Beastmen would pose a great challenge to the human army.
Who would undertake such an unappreciative task?
For the three nations bordering the Northernmost Wilderness, it was enough to repel the enemies at the national border during the Beastmen’s autumn plunder.
Naturally, the human nations had considered eradicating the Beastmen from this world altogether.
There had been large-scale offensives in history.
But the number of Beastmen was simply too great, the Northernmost Wilderness too vast, coupled with harsh weather conditions.
Large-scale human offensives would only increase the hatred between humans and Beastmen, and destroying the Beastmen turned out to be an insurmountable task.
Of course, if the Eight Continent Countries united their full strength, exterminating the beasts from the Northernmost Wilderness could be possible.
However, with the division between the north and south, Faran’s restraint, and the Eight Nations restraining each other, how could they possibly work together in unison?
More than a dozen beacons flaring into the sky from the mountaintop looked absolutely magnificent, and the early warning they provided took effect instantly.
Before the squad even reached the base of the mountain, from afar, Ye Yinzhu and his team could see the Beastman Army racing towards them from the Northernmost Wilderness.
Ye Yinzhu ordered the squad to halt and surveyed the swiftly approaching Beastman Army with a keen eye.
The beacons were lit and reinforcements were on their way; he had anticipated this scenario.
There definitely would be a Beastman Army stationed at the border.
Oliveira was also observing.
When it came to military capability, at the very least, Ye Yinzhu couldn’t pare to him for the time being.
Oliveira let out a surprised sound, “Why are there so few?”
Ye Hongyan frowned, “Few?
I see at least one legion’s worth of troops, and you find that few?”
Oliveira nodded and replied, “Of course, that’s few.
We’ve thought about passing through the mountains before, but the Beastmen had at least three or more Mixed Legions deployed here.
But what we see now seems to be just one legion, a third of the original number.
With the beacons flaring up, the Beastmen garrison will surely strike with full force, and this should be all the forces guarding the border.”
Listening to Oliveira and Ye Hongyan’s conversation, Ye Yinzhu decisively ordered, “Back to the mountaintop.
Ye Hongyan, please lead a hundred of the Lance Warriors from the Three Hundred Grim Reaper, kill half of the Beastmen Soldiers who fell asleep under my Zither’s influence, and then press the other half to the mountaintop and let them down the mountain.” With a large enemy force of tens of thousands of Beastmen ahead, and the risk of more than a thousand Beastmen waking from their slumber to attack from the rear, it was undeniably undesirable for Ye Yinzhu and his five hundred people.
Faced with a survival crisis, Ye Yinzhu had no choice but to order the slaughter of the defenseless Beastman Soldiers.
Ye Hongyan, without saying much, exemplified a qualified warrior’s first principle, obedience to mands, which Xi Duofu had always taught as the most basic and critical.
Acpanied by a hundred of the Three Hundred Grim Reaper Warriors, Ye Hongyan promptly retreated.
Ye Yinzhu continued to mand with a calm demeanor, “All Heavy Sword Warriors and Mages stay, the Lance Warriors, for now, withdraw to the mountaintop and await orders.
Brother Oliveira, lead them to the mountaintop to establish defensive positions; I’ll temporarily handle things here.”
