"Half a billion! How the hell did you manage to draw this conclusion?" Xiaoyun questioned in disbelief as he saw the number at the end.
"The labor cost is like a million alone, and to get the top-notch material, it needed to be salvaged from all over the place."
"I know that, but that still doesn’t add up to half a billion. What kind of miscellaneous costs make up half of the budget?"
As Xiaoyun puts the notebook back down onto the desk, Leyan shyly scratches her head before looking out at the bright city in the distance.
"Well, the bunker can’t just be a safehouse, and that’s it... I also planned this more for an underground settlent for a hundred people."
"Leyan, you have to be out of your mind if you think we can afford this. I’m not going to take public money for this."
Just as he was about to head out of the room to take a shower, Leyan whispered sothing that made him freeze in place.
"But we can afford it..."
"What do you an by ’we’? I’m not a crook. There’s no way we have a billion dollars lying around to pay for this construction."
"But we actually do. I an it."
Staring her right in the eyes, Xiaoyun soon realized she wasn’t just joking around. But his mind still couldn’t wrap around that idea.
"How did we manage to get a billion dollars in our bank account? Don’t tell we siphoned money straight out of the governnt treasury."
"What? No. We never took a single di from the governnt. I an, not illegally. All of this money is your guy’s paycheck."
This ti, he didn’t instantly question her. Instead, his mind was doing so serious internal calculation.
After standing there for a short thirty seconds, a single conclusion ca up as the past few news headlines popped up in his head.
"You’re telling there’s half a billion lying in the joint bank account that we can use right now to build this?"
As Leyan nodded her head, Xiaoyun quickly grabbed her phone out of her pocket before being hit with a password.
"What’s the password?"
"Your birthday."
Putting it in and unlocking it, Xiaoyun imdiately opens the bank app that he never bothered installing on his own phone.
"What the..."
Right before his eyes was one billion on the screen. Not just 8 zeros near half a billion, but a full 9 zeros back to back to back.
"I told you. All of you guys have such a high salary combined. It’s only a matter of ti before it balloons to a trillion at this point."
Xiaoyun’s face was still in disbelief as Leyan took her phone back, putting it into her pocket before grabbing the notebook.
"So, what do you think? We’re more than capable of building this bunker. Just a backup in case there’s so crazy chaos in the world."
"Wait a mont. You never asked any of them... There’s no way you’re going to spend their money without asking for their opinion."
"They all thought this was a genius idea, especially Wuli and Yuqi... They even designed a part of it."
As Xiaoyun thought back to the various sections of the bunker layout, he soon realized why it had so many different hobby rooms.
"They actually agreed to it?" Xiaoyun questioned again, wanting to hear her confirm it word for word.
"Of course they did. I asked every single one of them, and they told they want to build a shelter for our kids and us in the future.
Because you know, what if a country loses control of its nukes? What if soone just wanted to watch the world burn?"
Xiaoyun fell into silence. But not because of Leyan’s reasoning. Rather, he was thinking back to the whole giant mutant attack.
He had nowhere to run. His family had no way to run. Any large, surprise attack could ruin everything he had built.
Getting a boat was out of the question, especially when he had no up-to-date information on the outside world.
"We actually have a billion dollars to spend on this?" Xiaoyun questioned one last ti as he started to be persuaded by the idea.
"Mhm. And it’s not like we’re going to spend the whole budget at once. It’s going to be a multi-year process over ti.
If you stretch it out over like... three years, then you get a much smaller paynt chunk per month that our money can go towards."
After a whole minute of consideration, Xiaoyun finally nodded his head in agreent to the plan.
"Fine. If everyone agrees to it, then I’m fine with it as well. But where is this going to be built exactly?" Xiaoyun questioned.
"Right underneath the hill at the old Luoping entrance. It’s still an undeveloped grassland that no one wants to buy for months at this point.
The last ti she told she was about to turn the place into a park. I was thinking of keeping the top as a national park.
But below the park will be our bunker. No one in the world will ever expect this. It’s like the perfect hiding spot..."
Seeing Leyan lay out her plan filled with excitent, Xiaoyun began to realize she really had put a lot of effort into this project.
"Go for it."

"What took you two so long taking a shower? Did Mom have a secret little snack with our dare husband?"
Nami curiously asked as the two of them finally entered the kitchen after forty minutes since they had headed upstairs.
"What? No. We just took a shower, and that’s it. She didn’t co near at all during the shower." Xiaoyun instantly answered.
Seeing Leyan nodding her head as well, all of them didn’t bother trying to dig deeper as they turned their attention back to the food.
"You guys already started eating?" Leyan grumpily questioned as half of the dishes she had cooked up were now empty.
"It’s almost seven o’clock. We ain’t gonna wait for you two’s extra-long shower." Yuqi answered this ti.
As the two of them headed over to the rice cooker and grabbed a bowl of rice, a sudden doorbell echoed from the living room.
"I’ll open the door!"
Lily instantly jumped out of her seat, running straight to the front entrance before taking a look at the nearby window.
"Hey Tianci!"
"Hey Lily... Is everyone already eating?" Tianci quietly asked, looking a little tired as Lily closed the door behind her.
"We just started."
"What took you so long today?" Kate curiously asked as the two of them entered the kitchen.
"All thanks to this idi——S-So of the lab experint went much longer than we had imagined."
Despite Tianci changing her answer at the last second, everyone could tell she was calling a certain individual an idiot.
"Here’s your bowl of rice," Leyan murmured as she gave her a bowl before sitting down next to her.
"Thank you."
"Who’s that idiot? Did—Ouch—Ahem, ahem!"
"Watch your language."
As Shuli angrily hits Xiaoyun in the back, he starts choking on the rice. She quickly realized the mistake as she dropped her chopstick.
"I-I’m fine... I forgot I can’t curse in front of the kid. My bad. Ahem."
Everyone let out a sigh of relief as he resud eating. Just as everyone resud eating as well, Leyan suddenly got up from her seat again.
"Ahem, everyone. I have an announcent to make."
All eyes instantly turned towards her, waiting for her to continue as she took a short glance at every person in their seat.
"Xiaoyun agreed to my idea."
"There’s no shot he agreed to your crazy idea." Wuli instantly interrupted, seemingly to object to the idea.
"What idea?" Nami questioned, looking a little confused as if she had forgotten about sothing important.
"The underground city. The one that I asked you guys about for your opinion over the weekend."
"That one?"
Everyone in their seat instantly turned towards Xiaoyun, seemingly to question him about his acceptance.
"What are you all looking at for? You guys didn’t agree to it? Why should I reject her genius idea?"
"Genius idea to burn half a billion dollars." Wuli quietly murmured, and Shuli nodded her head in agreent.
"Leyan, did they really agree to you spending that money?" Xiaoyun questioned as he began to doubt her claims from earlier.
"Y-You all agreed to it over the weekend! Why are you all now saying no to it?" Leyan questioned in confusion.
"Mom... We didn’t expect you to actually take it seriously. I thought you were just playing around with that idea." Nami murmured.
"There’s no way you’re taking my paycheck for this," Kate answered next, rejecting the idea on the spot.
"As if you have a paycheck..." Anna quietly murmured as Kate’s face instantly started to blush for so mysterious reason.
"Mom... Maybe this is not the best idea to put our money towards." Yueyue quietly murmured as she switched sides.
